And yet despite not having a heavy hitter and dealing with the worst November gaming has had in decades, it sold just slightly below a holiday with 3D Mario, a strong overall holiday in spending, and a bunch of pent up demand finally being met after shortages.

Switch 2 sold 7.01 million this quarter.  Holiday quarter of 2017, Switch 1 sold 7.24 million.  So a bit of slowdown, yes, but honestly a pretty remarkable hold given the circumstances.  And the drop is so objectively mild, I hardly think it's time to panic.

And they seem on track to hit their revised projections from the prior report just fine, probably mildly surpass them.  Honestly, Nintendo seems to have been pretty spot on in anticipating the impact of the various potential issues they might have in the Holiday quarter.

Almost missed this, haven't seen you around here in ages!

Good to see you, hope you're well these days. :)

I've been lurking the whole time, just been quiet lol.  I'm doing pretty alright though.  I have commented on articles, just not in the forums.

Nintendo's stock is not responding in the way I thought it would.  The stock is down about 5% to 7% today and they are calling its Q3 performance a 'miss'.   Is there something I'm not seeing that the broader market is seeing or is the dip just related to missing the Q3 forecast even if by only a little bit?  Are people worried it can't get to the 19 in Q4?

Stockholders are morons, they consider anything other than "broke all records, line goes up forever" to be disappointing and constantly panic over nothing.

To be fair, if I was a CEO or some big charge in the videogame industry, this panic would be the perfect moment to buy stock cheaply.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

What about Metroid Prime 4?!

Nintendo only reports numbers for games that sell over a million in a given quarter/FY, and it would seem that in the 26 days of 2025 that it was available for, neither the Switch 1 or 2 versions of Metroid Prime 4 crossed that threshold.

We'll have to wait for the next report in May to put a number on it.

Metroid Prime 4 Beyond has just been a disaster. From the lastluster marketing campaign (likely a consequence of lack-of-faith in the game quality) to lukewarm reception among critics and consumers to a very troubled (and likely thereby expensive) development cycle, this is not the Metroid Prime experience I’m familiar with— surely sales have exceeded the Remaster/Remake from three years back, no? My only hope is that Nintendo doesn’t give up on 3D Metroid just yet… Metroid Prime might be in trouble, but I think 3D Metroid still has hope.

They shadow dropped Prime Metroid Remastered out of nowhere. This projection about Nintendo being worried about the games quality is unjustified, it got 3 trailers and a roll out similar to any previous metroid game. Whether people liked the trailers or thought there was hype is another topic altogether. If I'm not mistaken it was the very first treehouse they done for a Switch 2 game?

Anyone who says Nintendo didn't have faith in the game's quality just haven't been paying attention to the series until now, any long time fan knows Nintendo never did a whole lot to market the series, specially the Prime series. Even the excellent Dread had little fanfare from Nintendo.

This is sad but true. Imagine once the AI bubble starts to burst. The stock market is gonna crash.

I don't know how many people in here are aware of this yet: https://wccftech.com/google-project-genie-causes-video-game-stocks-crash/

Let's just say that things are not looking good for the market right now.

Yes, all video game stocks are being hit. I don't know if that's all to do with Genie though. Today's changes:

Nintendo: -10.98%
Capcom: -9.86%
Konami: -8.28%
Sony: -4.56%
Take-Two: -4.35%
Square Enix: -2.96%
Bandai Namco: -2.92%
Microsoft: -2.87%
Sega: -2.11%
EA: -1.09%

Look at who wrote the game story for MP4, no wonder it was a flop.

Like I said before, shareholders are a bunch of out of touch suits who don't know what gamers want. Fuck these people.

"Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa acknowledged that Switch 2 hardware sales were slightly weaker than expected outside Japan towards the end of 2025, while exceeding expectations domestically due to strong performances from Pokémon Legends: Z-A Nintendo Switch 2 Edition and Kirby Air Riders."

If you compare shipments to switch 1's first holiday quarter, Japan was a massive 37% higher for Switch 2. But Shipments to Americas were down by 18%, Europe+Other down by 14%.

So yeah Japan is going crazy for SW2 while other regions were a bit cooler on SW2 over the holidays.
