Forums - Sales - US Sales: November 2025 (Circana)

For whole NA switch 2 is 37% lower than Switch 1's first November and PS5 is down 33% YoY by VGChartz estimates currently on front page.

For Switch 2 i think the fact that it was readily available all year means that it didn't get a strong holiday boost, most people interested in buying Switch 2 year 1 already got it during previous months, and families are likely not that interested in Switch 2 due to the price as well which also lowers its holiday boost.

Switch 2 does not have the same amount of people in the US and Europe that view it as a must have item compared to Japan, which is why Switch 2 demand is higher in Japan even though their economic situation is worse than it is in western countries. In the US and Europe, Switch 2 is easily skippable this year while in Japan its seen as something worth to use some savings to get this holiday.

Americans, imo, have terrible tastes.

I’d argue it’s the Japanese who have good taste: EU went to FIFA and Madden, NA went to COD, BF6, and sports games, whereas Japan went to MarioKart, Kirby, and Pokémon.

I can't disagree.  Crazy to me people are happy with the same old Madden year after year.

To be fair, mobile gaming is bigger than console gaming in every market in the world.

But it's not so one sided outside Japan.

In Japan, I'm pretty sure Fate Grand Order alone made more money than Nintendo's entire Switch lineup (generated the equivalent of 117 million copies sold at $60). And on the console side, Nintendo is just so much bigger than anything else.

Basically it's mobile >>>>>> Nintendo >>>>> the rest. The west (and the rest of the world at large) is a lot more balanced, where quality games have a much higher chance at finding success. Japan is just not what it used to be.

Ah good point. I forgot about that… well at least the console gamers still have good taste compared to the west lol. (Also, mobile gatcha in Japan is like Roblox in the west.)

Yeah, if there is a market that I would definitely agree that have bad tastes is Japan. The only good games that make success there are Nintendo games

In west we at least have some good games making success from time to time, while in Japan good western games came and go completely unnoticed

Europe console sales for November could be bigger than Americas and Japan combined.

Japanese console gamers have good taste? The Pokémon game is mediocre. They basically buy brightly coloured family friendly games and Monster Hunter.

The west buys shooters, and Sports games. They also buy Read Dead Redemption 2(79m units sold), The Last of Us(20m+), Horizon: Zero Dwn(20m+), BG3(20m), Cyberpunk 2077(35m), the Witcher 3 etc. etc. They buy racing games like GT7 and FH5 and also full-on hardcore driving sims. They buy indie games in the tens of millions, like Hollow Knight, Stardew valley, terraria etc.

The same sports games and shooters might sell well every year but there’s enough of a market for games of all types to sell millions, for something like Hollow Knight Knight: Silksong to sell 7m at launch and Arc Raiders at 5m+, just like HD2 last year which is approaching 20m now. In Japan there is like a dozen successful franchises and everything else feeds of the scraps, selling in the 10-50k range at launch. How much did Clair Obscur sell in Japan?
