As a guitar player, I never thought Guitar Hero was great. It always felt like a stupid kids toy to me, like one of those Hot Lixx guitars from the 80's, and I hated the trend with an unhealthy passion. lol

Well, it is a toy. It is to playing guitar what playing with car toys is to driving. I don't think there's many guitar players out there that got into Guitar Hero, but I can guarantee you there's a lot of people who got into playing guitar because of Guitar Hero - I can attest to that myself.

Yeah, I don't feel that way anymore about it. I still have no interest, but I don't hate on it. It was a fun video game that made people happy. What's to hate?

Wizardy still gets new games.

Double Dragon just got a new game. Streets of Rage 4 is not that old and a new one is being made. Pac-Man got a new game this year.

Aren't they just Japanese spin-offs though?

Even those have stopped now about 10 years ago.

At least we got a remake/remaster (it's built on the original code, but the visuals are all new) of the very first one last year, but that's really the only news in the series in a long time.

I haven't played any of those spin-offs (my "anime is off-putting" thing - I know, my loss). Once I get my hands on AYN Thor, Wizardry 1 remake looks like one of the games that would be perfect fit for my current (and for foreseeable future) gaming time allotment.

We got Streets of Rage 4 in 2020 and Sega’s already shown that they’re working on 5

Also, didn’t we get a new Double Dragon just last week?

That's true, I'll scratch those two. Also, got River City Girls.

They were still core games, just exclusive to Japan (as far as I know) where the series found its largest fanbase.
I mean, you could kind of argue that Wizardry lives on in turn-based RPGs. Its legacy is quite constant in the genre.

I would say it lives through most RPG that go with a first person perspective, especially when they come with high difficulty, like the Etrian Odyssey series for instance.

But the last new Wizardry title came out in 2011, and I can only hope that the acclaim the remake of Proving Grounds Of The Mad Overlord will spark new interest in the series as a whole.
