IMO it’s not necessarily that I perceive TGA as being “anti-Nintendo” as much as it is that TGA is overly fixated on western AAA gaming appeals. There is no reason in a year as diverse as 2025 that the big two western AAA releases (GoY, DS2) should accumulate *16 nominations*, leaving all other publishers with nothing but crumbs

I'm personally someone who believes there is an intentional bias among voters. The same way there are "oscar baits" there are also "TGA baits" releasing every year (mostly narrative driven action-adventure games)

But... Death Stranding is a japanese game not western. Edit I also checked the nominations per publisher (by wikipedia). Sony is a bit of an oddity because they publish games from both western and eastern studios

Nominations by publisher
Nominations Publisher
19 Sony Interactive Entertainment
13 Kepler Interactive
10 Electronic Arts
7 Sega
6 Supergiant Games
5 Team Cherry
Xbox Game Studios[e]
4 Bethesda Softworks

3 Capcom
Deep Silver
Riot Games
Square Enix
2 Annapurna Interactive
Epic Games

Konami Digital Entertainment
NetEase Games

Raw Fury
Valve

Last year there was plenty of asian studios nominated with a japanese game (Astrobot) winning in number of nominations and of coursing grabbing the GOTY:

Every person on earth has a bias towards something. Especially towards art. Video games, movies, books, music etc can never get an award based 100% on objectivity. That wouldnt even make sense.

Agree but awards would be more fun is there was more diversity in the nominations. Not that I'm thinking the nominations of the last years were bad, they were pretty good imo

Same here! GOTY awards go heavily towards RPGs, Action-Adventure, and Platformers. Eeeeeevery so often there will be a surprise nomination outside of those 3 categories, but that is what they heavily skew towards. Which is a damn shame considering how many genres there are in gaming.

It essentially is telling developers, "You need to make this specific kind of game to get awards attention."

You called down the thunder, now reap the whirlwind

I mean, do we really need poll here?
Clair Obscure dont have anything that can compete with it.
After some time we have a game that can possible win everything that can be won.
Also seeing people in comments thinking that Ghost of Yotei will be candidate for GotY just made me laugh a little bit. That game scream mid.

Updated poll! Vote now. (Though I feel like we all know what game is going to win… this is going to be a pretty aggressive sweep for one game in particular.)

Also, MKWorld not being nominated for Best Music/OST is unbelievable. That’s utterly insane IMO. Say what you will about the game, again, the music is universally viewed as MKWorld’s shining aspect.

I'll see your MKW for music and raise you The Midnight Walk for not being nominated for Best Art direction.
