Forums - Movies & TV - Bad movies that are still great fun

Absolutely. But some people can’t separate budget from quality and just think they made bad choices as film makers. I think the beach ball is perfect as they knew they didn’t have a budget and wore that shoestring on their sleeve with that character.

Are you familiar with a band called Pinback? They got their name from O’Bannon’s character (quite an amazing character, btw) and they use audio cues in their songs and even Talby gets his own song. That’s actually how I heard about the film. I can tell you it’s an absolutely amazing experience to watch the movie after listening to the albums for years and hundreds of playthroughs.

Never heard of them. I'm just listening to a couple of their songs now (Good to sea, AFK), sounds good.

The Fifth Element.

That is hardly a bad movie. It is entertaining, it tells a proper story, it has high production value. In no category people usually classify a movie as bad it qualifies.

Yeah that’s probably true. It’s too good for the purpose of this thread. Has a handful of big name actors as well. As a child this was one of my favorites, watched it like a hundred times back then.

Anyone ever hear of Dark Star? It was written by the the guy who wrote Alien (Dan O’Bannon) and directed by John Carpenter and features three astronauts and a beach ball, I mean alien, on a space ship. I think it’s pretty fantastic.

Dark Star is cult classic...it's low budget, but there's nothing bad about it.

Yeah, you’re right. But sometimes when I show it to people they don’t see it that way so I thought it fit. They just see the beach ball and lose their minds. It isn’t just the design of it but how long it goes on for as well. I think it’s hilarious that it’s the prototype Alien movie. They’re lucky they ran into HR Giger the next time.

I grew up with it, I saw it first on TV...I think it was late 70s or, maybe 80/81. I've only saw it in theater much, much later, maybe late 90s, I caught some screening, and that by accident.

I really liked the ball, though honestly, I've always looked at it as fun distraction. But the Bomb...now, with that, I was fascinated.

Fifth Element wasn't bad just cheesy as hell. Tacky costumes, goofy characters, but that doesn't necessarily mean "bad."

Everything, everything outside of the distraction of the ball is peak writing/design. I especially like the song Benson, Arizona that was written for the movie. It is one of my favorite country songs ever recorded. It’s a shame you’ll never hear it on the radio.

I’ve never had a chance to see it in the theater but when I do I’m there. My first copy was on VHS but I got it on DVD a few years later. Might have to pick up the Blu ray if I see it.

For me, Romeo and Juliet, the one with DiCaprio. The characters just had this swagger about them. I own the movie and still watch it from time to time.

The 1993 Mario film. It's fun and I genuinely enjoy its wacky take on the Mario universe.

By all intents and purposes, Hackers is not a good movie lol but it's still one of my all-time favorites.
