Forums - Sony - PS5 Pro accounts for low single-digit percent of US PS5 sales

According to Circana Executive Director and Analyst Matt Piscatella: "LTD Pro accounts for a low single-digit percentage of total PS5 sales.

With PS5 Pro adoption where it's at and its price point, 3rd parties deemphasizing support for the Pro's bells and whistles would not surprise me in the least."

Not really surprising. The people who complain about base PS5 performance are a slim niche audience, throw in the high price and not many people care.

PS5 base tier graphics are more than good enough, probably will be good enough for a lot of people for another 6-8 years really.

Hoping this translates to an affordable PS6. With XBSXS going as high as $800 and the cheapest option being Switch 2 at $450, the direction of the industry is a little concerning

I predict Sony is going to pull a Nintendo and release the PS6 with only slightly bumped power. I think they're going to want the console both affordable, and its games not to cost a zillion dollars to produce. Shu has already sort of hinted at it, as have others.

I am hoping for this as well too. Just repackage a more efficient PS5.

I have never bought a Pro console and never will.

Honestly really hope that is true.
Just like a 20% improvement, with a good deal better raytracing.... and done.
Make it cheap, has always been my thing.

Yeah. Would also be nice to see the thing shrink back down to PS4-size-ish. I'm one of the few that likes the look of the base PS5 but man... lol. Thing is an absolute beast. And if you play it for a long time, you're room goes up at least a few degrees in temperature.

Unless they for some reason haven't already stablished the hardware, I doubt there's much is going to happen on that front.

Instead of an affordable PS6, you'll just have the PS5 (or pro). It's obvious from PS4 to PS5 that gens are going to bleed into one another on a more identifiable scale.

Taking into account PSSR for upscaling and the low power mode in the PS5 Pro, it's quite reasonable to think that mid to late gen PS6 games, that aren't made to be cross-gen with PS5, could theoretically work on PS5 by using the low power mode version of the PS6 game.

But at some point, the price is going to be a huge problem, so hopefully Sony does have solutions to keeping hardware down. I agree this is most ideal.

I got the Pro as a gift, which really showed me how useless it is. I have yet to find a game that looks better on it than on base PS5. I mean, I know there are differences in some games which you can see in some YouTube videos with 4x zoom in still images. But seeing improvements while actually playing a game? Thats virtually impossible. Well, maybe with the exception of the just released Silent Hill f that actually looks worse on Pro. It's quite embarrassing.

The differences on PS4 Pro were far more striking, although the price was so much cheaper. So I conclude that the PS5 Pro should never have existed.

Who would have thought that in the midst of a cost of living crisis impacting the entire planet... That a higher priced console would falter?

It's a solid piece of technology, it's just at an incorrect price... And this is the same exact issue with the GPU market, there isn't a "bad GPU" in AMD or nVidia's lineup, just poorly priced ones.
