Forums - Microsoft - Update: Microsoft claims retailers remain "committed" to Xbox

I suspect Microsoft is more interested in parrying Valve's introduction of SteamOS. If mobile gaming continues to grow, I think they want to get a foothold on that even at the cost of their home console business.

Understandable. Laying off over 9,000 employees and replacing them with AI, discontinuing many games, and increasing the price of overpriced hardware.

The dream of the world's richest corporation: getting even richer at the expense of people. xD Microsoft wants people to pay for the name, too (example: xbox handheld price) xD Statements like "Deal with it" are coming back and I find that not good. And online coercion seems to be back in a different form. Also, ALL Xbox games will be coming to PlayStation 5 in future. Many reasons for bad xbox sales figures, in my opinion. Some stores in Canada and asia are also starting to throw out the Xbox.

Like I said, blame Satya Nadella.

and Phil Spencer in my opinion. I've long had the feeling that money is the only thing that matters to him. And how many lies have there been in recent years? At every little show, they said, "The best Xbox presentation is coming" and "next year will be the biggest Xbox year in history." And now? The truth has been different for many years, even though Microsoft is so rich.

EB Games here in Australia have removed the Xbox section from their website, and people are reporting that their local outlets are removing their Xbox sections in store.

Same is true for Canada and EB games. Xbox going away soon from EB games.

Colteastwood says you cant even order a series x from the Microsoft or xbox sites either atm (when he checked on a Monday).

Also Destin legarie called Costco and asked about the "why" ?
And was just told "“We don’t have any plans going forward to carry an Xbox console.” Saying. It was a business decision.."

interesting. But it doesn't matter. The PlayStation 5 is a xbox too :D

There hasnt been any Xbox hardware in months according to Reddit so this isnt really new lol.

Costco. Costco really? Who cares. No one goes to Costco to buy gaming hardware/software. Their selection is piss poor. If Walmart, Target, Amazon, or Best Buy stopped selling Xbox products then that's a concern. Costco literally has only 6 PS5 games on their website. They could stop selling Playstation products right now and nothing would change. Same thing with Sam's Club and Staples. These 3 retailers could stop selling gaming products in general and it wouldn't matter. OMG a retailer that no one goes to buy games is no longer selling games. Literally no one would care.

Digital cards (eshop, PSN, xbox, etc) are great to buy from there if you are a frequent customer - thats where I go buy my eShop cards. I hope they dont stop selling those but ya physical gaming is pretty much weak in Costco.

Sam's Club is doing a clearance sale on xbox, as they get rid of them.

https://x.com/videogamedeals/status/1974157457048981855

"Xbox Consoles Clearance Sale at Sam's Club. Prices differ depending on region/location.

Xbox S $179.31-$239.31
Xbox Series X $279.31
"

So the rumors turned out true.
That's another retailer in the US dropping Xbox.

Sam's Club that just did a clearance of Xbox stock is owned by Walmart. Doesn't mean they're all going to follow suit but we'll see.

Yeah it really does seem we may have reached a tipping point where Xbox stuff just sells so poorly that retailers don't think it's worth stocking any more when there's other more lucrative things they could be spending their money and shelf space on.

I remember something similar happening here in Australia during the 6th gen where a lot of places just didn't stock Gamecube consoles/games it was like 75% PS2 and the rest was Xbox.

update:
Following Costco and Sam's Club, is now Target & Walmart.

https://www.thegamer.com/target-walmart-stop-selling-xbox-reddit-user-alleged-employee/

https://www.theouterhaven.net/are-target-stores-phasing-out-xbox-games-heres-what-we-found/

"Here is a fact-based summary of the story contents:
Last month, one of the largest retailers in the world, Costco, confirmed that it would no longer be selling Xbox consoles. Now, several other vendors may be following suit.
According to Reddit users who claim to work at Target and Walmart, both stores have begun removing their Xbox stock en masse."

The article has lots of quotes of people from target/walmart all basically saying the same thing.
Its being phased out and removed.

There's a reddit thread about this too:
https://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/comments/1o48eth/the_target_i_work_for_is_no_longer_selling_xbox/

"The Walmart store I work at is getting rid of Xbox games, too. We are doing a store remodel right now, and the new layout for Electronics will have no Xbox games,.."

"I can count on one hand the number of times I've sold an Xbox game."

"My local Walmart just went through this remodel and it's crazy. A handful of remaining Xbox games live in one half of one shelf at the bottom of the PS end cap case."

"Is this because of low demand for games or low demand for physical games? Ive bought probably ten Xbox games in the last few years, all digital. ?"

re:   "I'm not sure what corporate is seeing numbers wise, but I'm guessing the demand and sales of xbox games just isnt there anymore. There was a rumor last year that Walmart was moving away from physical games altogether, but it looks like just the least performing platform (for now). "

"
Currently at our main Target in Central FL. Confirming as of today there are 0 Xbox games and only a handful of digital cards. Everything Xbox is gone outside of controllers. We were here yesterday for some grocery things, and all of the Xbox stuff was here. Wild times."

"So can confirm no more physical Xbox games at my local Target. "

"The Walmart near me has moved the Xbox section to back corner of their electronics section. It used to be you could see all three companies when walking by and now it's just Nintendo and Sony, with the former Xbox section now being and expanded DVD/blueray area. "

and more....

Basically this is too many reports of different people that all say the same thing, over the week its being phased out or removed.

This now means that Target and Walmart, have followed Costco and Sam's Club.

Is something like this worthy of a article on vgchartz ?
I feel like this is a major thing.
Target and Walmart are huge chains.
