Well so far Kirby Air Riders sold almost 200k physically in Japan. Not sure about the rest of the world but it’s worth mentioning.

Yeah in Japan Kirby absolutely crushed Sonic, which launched at just 5.5k on Switch and 2.1k on PS5.
The rest of the world though should be much closer, as Japan is quite meh on Sonic but really likes Kirby.
We finally have some official numbers from Nintendo’s Quarterly report with Kirby at 1.76 million. So far we know Sonic is a +1 million. While we don’t know the exact amount for Sonic, Kirby seems to be the faster selling racer.

Sega reported that Sonic Racing Crossworlds had passed 1 million, and that they are hoping for 2m this FY, but said that the game "did not meet expectations" sales wise.
Yep, it's looking like Kirby may be shaping up to win this one.
Kirby Air Riders really show what can happen for a game that is a big hit in Japan. Its huge Japanese sales meant it nullified Sonic Crossworlds advantage in western markets.

Edit— Upon conducting further research, this is what I'm seeing: Sega announced Sonic Racing: Crossworlds as having sold through 1 million copies as of October 22nd 2025. [This was revealed via a press release with a direct quote linked here.] Since the release of this press release, however, there has been no mention of updated figures for Q2FY'26 other than that Sega is "aiming to sell approximately another 1 million units within this fiscal year." [Here is a link to the official press release.] My interpretation of this remark is to say that Sonic Racing: Crossworlds sold through 1 million within the 28 days of launch, and Sega is aiming for the game hit 2 million sold before March 31 2026.
Edit #2— Ah, I see now why people are talking about Crossworlds again:
There was no mention of new sales figures for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds specifically. https://t.co/IFsCS4wr2E pic.twitter.com/rjy40Qkprq

So, Sonic Racing: Crossworlds has yet to cross the 2 million threshold, and judging by the silence of Sega, it may not be on track to do so... yeah, Kirby's got this one in the bag. Air Riders should be around 2 million copies shipped by the end of the fiscal year, whereas Sonic may not be anywhere close.
Also, you can ignore everything below this line lol.
Hmm... seems there's a bit of confusion behind Sonic Racing: Crossworld figures. It seems the game has actually already passed 2mil, and is tracking quite a bit ahead of Kirby Air Riders.
I was under the impression that this 1mil figure was LTD through December 31 2025 (in which case, yeah, I was a tad bit shocked having known that the game launched to 1mil copies sold/shipped(?)), but maybe not?

It's a shame Sonic Racing didn't set the charts on fire as it's a good game, but maybe it will have legs.
It will be interesting to see how Kirby holds up when we get our next quarterly report; almost 1.76m in under a month and a half is a strong pace, and in Japan at least its showing excellent stamina.

Yeah I supported both games on day 1, plus I upgraded Sonic Racing to Switch 2 when that became available, so I did my part haha
