I think that metals is a poor investment and I was going to buy gold but the recent news about these startups that are making gold in reactors seems like it could possibly work out. If this were so, then i'd be wise to stick to stocks since gold has historically been the best investment and now it's future as an investment looks doubtful.

There have been a handful of startups recently formed to start utilizing the process you mentioned in the picture you copied. And at least they think that this method of producing gold will be profitable. Since you are mentioning fusion, I can use this as an example since it was thought to be unfeasible until recently and now we have commercial projects incoming. So, while that doesn't mean it will necessarily happen, it does give me enough reason to not invest in gold or even gold funds.

Can you list your handful of startups?

The process I mentioned will never be feasible.  A trillion times the market price of gold to produce it, is not a start.

No and i'm not going to bother looking it up again.  There is one company that is was on my feed when i google it and another that i found after much more looking.  And again, i'm not necessarily saying that it's going to be a bad idea.  It's only that it seems to have enough doubt at this point to make me not want to invest in gold.  So, we'll have to see on this just like fusion itself as their destiny will coincide it seems.

Can you even name the one company?

Looked into it.  Also checked some more recent scientific journals on the matter regarding the claims.  The gold it can produce will remain radioactive for 17.7 years after yield.  The nuclear fission plants still would need to be built.  While this seems like a nice byproduct of providing electricity, it will be over 40 years away before any gold may or can be produced for industrial uses.

edit: Appreciate the link.  I'll definitely keep an eye on them.

ok, but that's assuming you only leave the gold alone after collection.  There are also ways to take away the radiation.  And i'm not saying that it will be easy but again, we'll have to see if this will work out.

Before this, i was definitely considering purchasing gold, and it seems like gold increases by around 9% a year if i'm not mistaken.  That's pretty good especially when it isn't taxed.  But I'll know within a few years whether this startup is successful or not by how the media/market evaluates the firm, as well as the internet peanut gallery for investment topics.  And we are a part of that lol.

I always wanted to with rare curreny but just never got started past a few coins. I had the dinominations of the Irish pound before the euro took over from specific dates like my birth year but I've no idea where they are and even if I found them I can't imagine expanding them. I'd say it would be beyond my means as a hobby.

I had complete pre-Euro sets of many European currencies (West-German D-Marks/Pfennige, East-German Marks/Pfennige, French Francs/Centimes, Spanish Pesetas, Italian Lira, UK Pounds/Shillings/Sixpence/Pennies, Austrian Schillinge/Groschen, Swiss Franken, Netherland Gulden/, Greek Drachmen, Swedish Kronen, Czech Kronen...) from vacations, but I can only find a few dozens of single coins... and an unopened Euro-Starter-Set from 2002:

Nice!

I'll have to check where our old pre-Euro coins are. Apart from the 5-Sou Stécker (25 Luxembourgish/Belgian Franc cents coins), of which my Aunt used about 350 as a weight to keep a very tall vase with thin base from tipping over when they got retired from circulation, I have no idea where all our old coins are.

I also still have my starter pack (from Luxembourg), and that one is with our 2€ commemorative coin collection, of which we're only missing a few coins (mostly from Vatican, San Marino or Andorra)

Order came in this morning!
