Forums - Nintendo - What was your introduction to Nintendo?

1991, birthday party at a friend-of-a-friend's house- he had a Gameboy with Super Mario Land. I was glued to the screen- hardly cleared the first level but I knew I had to have one of these as well. My other friends had Commodore 64 or Atari computers, but my parents refused to buy me one of those because "it is way too expensive and all you will use it for is gaming anyway". So I conviced them to allow me to buy a Gameboy ("you say I do not need a computer because I will not use it for anything but gaming- this is a device just for gaming and a lot cheaper than a computer, so there is no waste there"), saved up all the pocketmoney I got for the next many months, got the last missing 40 Mark as an extra gift from my godfather so I finally could buy a Gameboy and Tetris bundle in the summer of 1992. From there Super Nintendo, N64 (skipped Gamecube, skipped Wii), WiiU, Switch and now Switch 2, proving that eighties/ nineties Ninti knew how to pluck them young and keep them for a long time.

I was born with a NES controller in my hand basically. My uncles and my dad used to be avid gamers, and gifted my older brother some game systems and games.

Nes.

NES at my newphew's place when I was 12 I think. We played Mario and Duck Hunt on it. It didn't impress me much at the time since I was into PC already, King's Quest, Space Quest, Police Quest, Rogue etc. I wasn't interested in platformers at the time after MSX, got back into them with Prince of Persia, Rick Dangerous and Duke Nukem later.

My Nintendo 'journey' started with N64, Waverace, Mario 3D, OoT. Original Mario I first finished on Gameboy color on a 8 hour flight. Done long before the flight ended, then played more Tetris. (At my nephew's place we didn't get much past the second world lol)

We got a SNES with Super Mario Allstars one Christmas. Great memories of that. Got every console and handheld of theirs since then.

Wow everyone here is so old lol. Meanwhile my introduction to Nintendo was Christmas 2006, when parents finally let me play the GameCube (Smash Bros Melee was the first game) with my older brother. Not even four years old and I was already gaming. Some of my childhood favorites were Pikmin, SSX Tricky, Star Fox Adventure, and Luigi’s Mansion. I also played lots of Wii Sports, MKWii, and Mario Sluggers, but that wasn’t until I got a little bit older.

My SNES's family broke at some point

lol do you mean your family’s SNES? I’m reading this as “SNES’s family” as referring to your biological family.

I grew up watching my older brother play on the NES. Eventually I started playing too — probably around ‘89? Bubble Bobble, Top Gun, Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda, Kung Fu, 3-D WorldRunner, Duck Hunt (with Zapper, of course). In 1991 we got an SNES, which my brother and I sort of shared. He would routinely kick my butt at Street Fighter II.

1994~, NES, Super Mario Bros. There was a small gaming/billiards place in my grandparents' neighbourhood that had a NES and people played Super Mario on it. I was too young to know which Mario it was, or why I was even there because I don't think I played anything lol. I just admired the view.
