Forums - Gaming - If you could save one now defunct studio, who would it be and why?

Man I forgot they were dead now, but Monolith Productions would have to be my #1.

While they were a little hit and miss, their hits such as Condemned Criminal Origins, FEAR, Middle Earth Shadow of Mordor, and Blood were fantastic.

Damn shame to lose them.

With that initial post, I actually painted a picture of freedoms of tabletop RPG, brought to video games for the first time via advancements in tech - something that people were trying to achieve ever since Ultima 1, but nobody ever really got anywhere near it in the whole 45 or so years of the genre, since it was not technically possible. And those same things can be applied to some other genres. And you asked if that makes game more "fun"?

So, again, apart from fun being completely subjective, what is the point of your question?

This was once a simple ‘yes’ or ‘no’ question.

But you couldn’t answer it without deflecting. For some reason. But whatever, I’m not replying anymore. Which means you can now just say ‘yes’ anyway or think you won or something because of my silence.

And No One Lives Forever. One of my favorites.

Didn’t know Monolith Productions had shut down though, that’s too bad.

@bold No, it never was.

One man's meat is another man's poison, different strokes for different folks and all that jazz. Hence, your question about fun was completely pointless.

Yeah WB shut them down earlier this year: https://www.gamesindustry.biz/warner-bros-shuttering-monolith-productions-player-first-games-and-warner-bros-san-diego

We've lost a lot of good ones recently as the megacorps lay people off in droves, all the while posting records profits.

Japan Studio. I know I'm exaggerating but it kinda feels like Sony became a colorless TV without them around (well I'm glad Asobi remains). Sony should have explored porting their games to other platforms before deciding to shut them down, same goes to any struggling first party developer really.

sierra games....i miss the point and click genre and i realize that they still exist, however Sierra was the master at this. Leisure Suit Larry, Spacecraft, kings quest, Quest for glory, etc etc etc

Psygnosis/Studio Liverpool would be one of mine as well; the Wipeout games were epic and it would be so cool to see one made for today's hardware.

Yeah they brought a welcome diversity and quirkiness to Sony's lineup for me; Puppeteer was one of my favourite games on PS3.

Guerilla Cambridge.

I think this is a studio who would've really succeeded given a bit more time.

But at the same time, I think then not being around allowed Nixies and their role for Sony to truly shine. So who knows how different things could've been.

Hudson.

Only because Bomberman hasnt been the same since....
