They've certainly aged a TON better. I love the vibrant sprite/pixel art look (even for 8-bit but especially 16-bit) far more than the blocky early 3D graphics, which just look gross now, minus racing games and I guess some FPS. By the early 360/PS3 era, and even late GameCube era with stuff like Gears of War it starts to get a lot more refined and pretty looking, but yeah, from like 1996-2006 many of the games look so ugly they're almost unplayable to me.

Thank the gaming lords i dont have that issue, i LOVE 6th gen graphics, and can easily adapt/play to the ps1 graphics.

Stuff like the og tomb raider still looks and plays fine, but ofcourse the remasters are quit a lot better.

I feel like graphics need to be seen in the context of their time.
They will probably come a day when even the most cutting edge games of today look dated, however impressive they look to us now.
Our standards are determined by our experience. In the mid 90s, most of us were relatively new to polygonal 3D, so it still had a novelty and wow factor.
It's easy to pick them apart now that we've become accustomed to far more complex visuals, but that's like laughing at the people who built the pyramids cos today we have cranes and smartphones.

Don't get me wrong the N64 era was some of my best times in gaming (& still is at times as I still love playing Smash Bros, GoldenEye, Mario Kart, etc with my sister, cousin, buddies), went it comes to multiplayer at least it's probably my most sentimental console. But most of the graphics are an eyesore to me now. I have this HDMI up res cord which, while the novelty of playing N64 on the big screen in quasi-HD, ironically just brings out that ugly jagginess even more.

Yeah it does also need to be kept in mind that PS1/N64 were designed for and primarily played on small CRT TVs, where they looked much, much better than they do today blown up on a big screen HD TV.
