Do we know when was the last time Nintendo consoles had a market share of over 80% in the Japanese market like it has this year as of yet?

I've posted RotW estimates for June.
Circana (NPD) drops on Wednesday, so at a minimum I plan to get Americas estimates live on that day. And hopefully get Europe estimates up as well. With the worldwide breakdown posted on Thursday or Friday.
I know many are waiting to see our estimates for the first month (5 weeks) of Switch 2. Depending on Circana the first month (5 weeks) will likely be in the 5-5.5 million range for our estimates, then we will make any necessary adjustments once Nintendo releases their earnings report and we get shipment numbers.

Maybe some point in December 2006 because of Wii, DS, outgoing GBA sales, and a tiny bit of GameCube.
It's interesting that Switch still outsold PS5 by tens of thousands of units when its replacement launched on the 5th of the month.
Lifetime Sales Predictions
Switch: 161 million (was 73 million, then 96 million, then 113 million, then 125 million, then 144 million, then 151 million, then 156 million)
PS5: 122 million (was 105 million, then 115 million) Xbox Series X/S: 38 million (was 60 million, then 67 million, then 57 million. then 48 million. then 40 million)
Switch 2: 120 million (was 116 million)
PS4: 120 mil (was 100 then 130 million, then 122 million) Xbox One: 51 mil (was 50 then 55 mil)
3DS: 75.5 mil (was 73, then 77 million)

I am working on the estimates now that Circana (NPD) is out. Though it will likely take longer than usual.

Thank you very much everyone in the team for pumping out those highly anticipated June 2025 estimates, very well done & very much appreciated!
Can't wait for the worldwide estimates now, looking forward to Thursday or Friday.
On a side note:
My sense is your ww Switch 2 estimates will have a deviation of only ±3% and be spot on.

I would love to be within 3%. With the amount of data we get I am happy if we are within 10%. It should be noted Nintendo's earnings report will be through June 30, while our first month is through July 5. So we have an extra 5 days of sales.
Speaking of worldwide. Those numbers are done and on the site. So, we have Switch 2 at 5.01 million in month one. However, I like to spread out the articles, so will post the worldwide breakdown tomorrow morning my time.

My sense is also just estimating, ;), but I really do think you're gonna be very close.
But ofc you're right, even ±10%, at ~±5m ww, would be a very good hit anyway.
(As far as the 5 days extra go, I'll be able to calculate them out of the equation to find out how close you'd gotten. :))
Yes, that's a good idea to spread out the articles. Today's articles were already very interesting though.
Thanks again, it's just great to have you & the team around in 2025 - and now even with another new console on board!
