Forums - Sony - PS players, would you buy a PS system only for first party games?

Would you?

Yes 7 30.43%

No 16 69.57%

Total:23

Saw this on another forum and it seemed an interesting discussion.

Some people say they buy a Nintendo system just for Nintendo games; hypothetically, if Sony released a new Playstation system that had their usual suite of first party titles and IPs but no third party games, would you still buy it?

Around the Network

Of the top 15 games on PS4, 2 of them were published by Sony.

Do you still need more info?

Are they playable exclusive on the console? If not then it's waste of money if I can already play it on a device that I already have(PC).

Since GT7 and PSVR2 are the best way to enjoy racing around the Nordschleife, yes.

I buy all systems for the 1st party games... It's the system those games were made for.

If they're true exclusives (at least for the generation) I would consider it. I would probably buy a PS6 if Bloodborne 2 is the sole game on it and I somehow know 100% that it stays exclusive for the entire generation (if borrowing and renting aren't options).

Otherwise, not a chance.

Probably not. I use PS Plus as a main source of games I play, and there will clearly not be enough Sony titles to maintain that in the long term.

I mean, I could always play less games and do other stuff I suppose. There's too many factors missing here, like potential console pricing, whether Sony published titles are being counted, whether stuff from XDev is counted.

Wikipedia has 9/15 of them being published by Sony. The only ones not Sony published are GTA V, Minecraft, CoD Black Ops and WWII, RDR2 and The Witcher 3. The minimum sales to enter on top 15* is over 10 million units, most third parties are multiplatform so their sales are split

Although I think Monster Hunter World crossed 10 million if we counts the version that comes along with Iceborn

2 years ago I would answer no, but now I kinda already have it only for the timed exclusives. Since I have a PC, PS5 is mainly for first party or for games I want to do local multiplayer (which are very few). I still buy games on PS5 because I can buy them physical, but physical support in Brazil has been decreasing this generation except for sony first party games and AAA blockbusters. I believe they will keep shirinking during PS6 era

No if its like PS5

Yes if its like PS2, PS3 and PS4.

You're right. I forgot total sales number isn't updated in the game search here.

A bit over half looks kind of better. But losing almost half of the most games played would be devastating to any platform.

Then if Wikipedia is correct about PS5, it's currently only 5/14 published by Sony. That's without numbers for Call of Duty.

Edit:

To put it into perspective, Nintendo Switch has 4 in the top 50 best-selling games.
...that weren't published by Nintendo.
