Forums - Gaming - Do you think Capcom could release Resident Evil on Switch 2 ?

Capcom could bring the Resident Evil franchise to the Switch 2. Do you think it’s technically possible for Switch 2 to run RE 9 (Resident Evil Requiem) natively ? Given its hardware power close to PlayStation 4/Pro level. Would a port of RE 9 or its engine be feasible and performant on the system ?

Also, do you believe a native release (not cloud) of RE titles on Switch 2 could succeed commercially? Would you buy RE 9 or any modern RE remake on Switch 2 ?

I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Why this matters

  • Switch 2’s Nova Tegra chip, 12 GB RAM make it much more capable than the original Switch  .

  • RE Engine games (RE 7, 8, Village) ran well even on weaker devices—and that ports to iPhone happened, so Switch 2 probably could handle them too

Not sure about 9, but the others are coming for sure.

Yes, I think it is technically possible and probably could be a very polished version.

Recent Resident Evil games aren't very demanding and the Switch 2 is pretty close, when scaling by internal resolution, to the other platforms. I don't expect this game to be CPU-bound, so it shouldn't be too hard to scale for Switch 2.

Would I buy it? Yes. Probably would get both the PC version and Switch 2 version in that hypothetical scenario. If there is a VR-exclusive version for PS5 then I would get that instead of PC version. I very much enjoyed RE Village VR.

I really wanna have a Resident Evil on Switch. The 4 Remake would be great since I didn't play it

I'm pretty sure they are all coming to Switch 2, except the new one just announced

If I'm not mistaken Village was available as cloud version on Switch right? Capcom clearly have no problems to release games for Nintendo systems, as long they are able to run their games they will be released

Considering that Resident 2 Remake, 3 Remake, 7 & 8 all released on Switch 1 (as cloud versions), I would be surprised if Capcom didn’t bring the series to Switch 2 now that it has more capable hardware.

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

As others have said, 9 is an unknown, but Capcom would have to be stupid not to put every other game from 7 through 4 remake on Switch 2. All of those games were fine on PS4 and wouldn't be that big of an investment to port over.

I have no idea. There was a rumor for this week, but seems a little late for that now.
