48 systems at my local GameStop. 60+ people showed up. Ranged from elderly to children, and a lot of big Nintendo fans in their 20s/30s. Casual base seems interested. I see a very strong first fiscal year (17-18mil). Beyond that? No idea. Literally anything can happen.

The launch of consoles is typically the huge fans of gaming or that particular brand of consoles. Casual gamers come later typically. I feel the main problem with sales will be the pricing of the hardware and software for casual gamers. It really doesn't matter about the spec so much its about delivering affordable gaming. I think there is the possibility that Switch 2 won't sell well until perhaps prices outside Japan match Japan prices. I suspect Switch 1 will outsell Switch 2 this Christmas. I think I've seen Switch Lites go for as low as £140 retail but normally £180 I think not sure. That is a casual price point in the UK I would say. I feel there will be some resistance to game pricing from the more casual crowd.

Everyone keeps bringing up the price of hardware and software. But, Nintendo is still the cheapest hardware out of the big three. And all the 3rd party games are a lot cheaper. Mario Kart is the only one right now listed at $80. But if you want the game, most will buy the bundle which will only cost them $50 more. Honestly, the prices are not as bad as some people are making it out to be.

Iterative consoles with BC rarely fail. It will be a huge success I think.

I feel in the 100-120 million territory. Success means different things to different people but that’s a success in my books.

The wii u was one of Nintendo's biggest failures and had fantastic compatibility with wii as it had the same hardware underneath for compatibility. The dual screen element of the wii u I think the original wii gpu is used for the gamepad independent graphics. The tri core powerpc cpu would downclock and operate in single CPU mode for full wii compatibility. You had a much more powerful console that could also do full wii hardware mode without emulation.

Here in the UK you can buy a PS5 digital edition for around 300-330 pounds and PS4 games start at just a few pounds for heavily discounted older titles and PS5 titles maybe starting at 10 pounds new online. Personally I'm not a fan of digital versions of consoles though I have to admit. I have seen the OLED version of the original Switch as an offer sell new for around 200 pounds (aliexpress HK stock) and the lite model of course well below 200 pounds. The lite model appears to make up about 20% of Switch sales worldwide. Worldwide disposable income has been going down hugely in recent years generally. However statistics show income after tax as disposable because that is the only data they have where as real disposable income is after you have paid for heating, mortgage, rent etc and this is the income that is dropping. The point is a significant percentage of people are becoming more price sensitive. There is always a wide spectrum of game prices on any format but the big games dictate how game pricing is perceived. Mario Kart World will definitely be what people are looking at as its by far the most important title in the Switch 2 line up so far. I think pricing will be an issue and it always is. I saw a report that the recent increase in pricing for the Xbox Series consoles has reduced their sales considerably (in the UK). It was already a format struggling against Playstation.

30,000 sold at midnight in the uk in one chain. This is going to be big. Also if online negativity meant anything pokemon scarlet/violet would be the worst selling pokemon games, not the second best selling games the series.

Btw why are people so negative online about Switch 2 ?

But lets be honest, the wii u was one of the ugliest consoles every made, the controller looked like like it was modeled after one of those toys babies play with.

Xbox Series S is $200 AUD cheaper than the Switch 2 base console. (I.E. Without Mario Kart.)
$500 vs $700 AUD.

Most of the older multiplat games like Cyberpunk can be bought super cheap on Xbox and Playstation today.

Switch 2 will be a success, zero doubts about that... This was the first time we had midnight launches in Australia for many many years for anything video-game related.

(Was the Wii U and 3DS not precisely this?)
