I rather no gimmick than having to fill up on gas.

They've already been adding non-Mario stuff in MK, so your "wishful bullshit" has already been rejected by Nintendo for the past decade.
Really Nintendo just needs to add items to the list of non-Mario stuff this time around. They've already included characters and courses from other IP, but it'd be awesome if they include items from other IP as well, that's the big thing I'm looking for in MK9. That'd be a very welcome addition to the series to spice of the gameplay a bit.
Include a few more non-Mario characters than MK8 had, include a few more non-Mario courses than MK8 had, and make some new items from non-Mario games. That plus 24 kart races would be good enough to make MK9 feel fresh and new. Though I'd love to see more additions as well. Would also love to see the character specials come back from Double Dash, that is something they really need to bring back to MK!

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is still largely Mario characters and key IPs like Kirby, Pokemon, and Metroid are absent. Captain Falcon isn't even available as a character. Mario Kart is currently Nintendo's Top IP if we look at Mario Kart 8 Deluxe's sales and Mario Kart Tour. Heck, even Mario Kart 7 and Mario Kart 8 were the top-selling games on 3DS and Wii U. No Mario Kart title had been the best-selling title on a Nintendo platform until 7 and 8. Heavy emphasis on non-Mario characters and locations would be a huge gamble for the Mario Kart IP. |
I'm not following your logic. How would that be a huge gamble? By far the most popular MK ever, and by far the best selling game on the Switch has multiple characters and courses that are non-Mario characters. The only gamble would be to turn away from that and say nevermind we're just going back to to how Mario Kart used to be with fewer and less interesting options.
If anything they should be adding more stuff, not taking stuff away. MK8 tested out adding in non-Mario things to MK, and it was hugely popular, so it'd be natural (and very much desired by gamers) for them to do even more of that with MK9. Nobody is like "nooo I hate non Mario things" lol.
Maybe the drill kart gimmick I heard that was planned for an earlier game might resurface.

Whatever they choose - I just care about the following -More Mario characters (probably add Kirby to the mix) -More new stages (and bring back older stages like MK8D did) -More items -More customization items for the kart -The ability to modify what items you can use in single player mode (like they did with Online for MK8D) -Story mode/open world mode like Diddy Kong Racing |
Even better yet, more Donkey Kong characters, because they're still a part of the Mario universe, and Nintendo still won't give us a Diddy Kong Racing sequel.

Nothing wrong with that, necessarily. This new Mario Kart could end up with even more great reasons to keep coming back to it, just like Mario Kart 8 DX did.

MK8 had Zelda, Splatoon. F-Zero. Animal Crossing racers and tracks. |
And that's perfectly enough for what it should be, an add-on. It can't become the sole focus of the experience.

You did not read or understand what I said huh.
I repeat "There's no problem to add a select few of those to supplement your roster but it cannot become THE feature everyone should look for."
Your arguing this should become a main driver for the engagement. I'm arguing against it.
Funnily enough all the non Mario IP content also came only as part of the WiiU's DLC and the Switch Launch version which only added the Inklings and a Splatoon map in battle mode.
I concur, adding a few more characters or moreso rotating the guest rosters wouldn't be too bad, but the experience has to come in first as a complete Mario Kart package before it giggles the "Smash Bros" Kart keys.

Nope. Bring on more. I want to see Xenoblade. ARMS. And more! Seriously. The more it's like SEGA All Stars Racing Transformed the better!
Nintendo Kart would be such a terrible idea lol.
