I wouldn't say it's a true PS5 game. It was built with last-gen tech that has allowed the devs to down tune it to the point the game now being able to be labelled as "Verified" on the Steam Deck. A PC that has the power of a launch PS4.

Unreal Engine has just never been kind to open world games.

Yeah, Rebirth got Deck verified just today so it bodes well.

As for me, I'm hoping Kingdom Hearts 1.5+2.5, 2.8 and 3+ReMind become actual released games rather than cloud streaming.

KH on the go, I'll do myself a new marathon (even though I'm doing one technically....).

If this happens, I may get back into KH, because I blacklisted the series on PC after the stupid EGS exclusivity Square pulled with the series.

Hugh, well that was underwhelming. Lets hope nintendo can show something killa in april because atm this just seems like a switch pro

I'm sure they will. I wouldn't be surprised if Metroid Prime 4: Beyond gets a Switch 2 version. I also think there's gonna be an open world 3D Mario game announced, too! Nintendo was experimenting on that with Bowser's Fury.

Yes definitely underwhelming for an announcement video lol. I was expecting it to be like a 15 minute video and it was under 3 minutes! Almost makes you think they weren't planning to reveal it until April 2nd and then just cuz of the leaks they decided they needed to put together a short reveal video just to announce it and show off all the stuff that was already leaked.

Anyway yeah would loooove the launch games to be an upgraded (crossgen) version of Prime 4, open world Mario, and then MK9 following a few weeks after that.

This. Why would you showcase your new and more powerful hardware with a Mario Kart game that looks almost identical to MK8. I thought it was MK8 until the posters in here pointed out a few differences

I'm guessing it's because they didn't want to reveal anything "more interesting" until the Switch 2 Direct. Mario Kart looks like Mario Kart. They can safely put up a few seconds of Kart racing and its gonna look similar to Kart racing we've been playing for many years. But if they put up say 3D Mario video that would give away clues about stuff they probably don't want to reveal until the Direct.

Definitely disappointing for a hugely anticipated new system reveal, considering it is a next gen Switch as we all assumed for years and all they did was show off a bigger machine with a few seconds of Mario Kart that other than perhaps 24 racers looked same same. You'd think from a company that is worried about transitioning from their most successful system ever to is direct successor, they would have come out of the gates firing bombshells instead of a little 2 minute video that pretty much just says hey it's bigger than the last one and has magnet controllers haha. If it had been a transformative new piece of hardware like the Wii just a short teaser of the hardware like they did here would've been exciting, but since it's just a bigger next gen Switch it was more like "yeah cool as expected and as leaked, okay now back to continue waiting for another 75 days".

As I said in the last comment, I get the feeling now that they weren't actually planning on revealing it at the beginning of the year and had everything planned for April reveal, but then with all the leaks in recent weeks they decided to throw together a tiny video that just shows off the stuff that was already leaked. Although as others said maybe it was so that third parties can start announcing Switch 2 games, though if this reveal was already planned and not a rush job that is pretty disappointing planning/marketing by Nintendo. Though marketing has never been their strong suit.

I guess we just have to wait to April to truly get excited haha. Still it's nice to see the official system and get the date for the legit stuff even if it's a longer wait than expected.

Well, that perfectly sums up

Are you guys forgetting that they stated months ago a reveal this fiscal year?  April 2nd is next fiscal year ...

I think this was just a tease.  A little something to wet the whistle.  I like that they seemed to be a little cheeky about Joy-Con drift.

But its close, the reveal would be after Xenoblade release then a couple of weeks we would have the direct. I am not complaining, it is a good tatic to shut up the leakers and beggars to then continue with their schedule promoting the remaining games for Switch: DK January; Pokemon Legends February; Xenoblade March

I don't think I've ever been so, "oh", about console announcement in my life. I will say most of that is because, if it was my choice, there would be no new consoles until like 2029 lol. For Nintendo, Switch 2 is the successor to Switch but this really just seems to be a Switch PRO. A more powerful Switch and that only matters to certain group of gamers.

EDIT: I think PRO consoles have sort of ruined the next console just being more powerful exciting to me.

It's definitely beyond a Pro model hardware wise.

From the leaked clocked speeds and knowing it has 1536 CUDA cores as an example the OG Switch was 153 GFLOPS undocked, this is 1.7 TFLOPS undocked, that's over a 10x uplift from where the Switch started at.

An 8x-10x performance boost is pretty large, the PS5 is about 6x over the PS4.

For the rest of the hardware sure it's a bit straight forward. At least they didn't make the sometimes Nintendo prone error of making something that looks like a child's toy. This looks like something Batman would use, which is a good design.

Looking at some other Nintendo gen leaps the 3DS didn't really add much hardware wise other than a 3D screen that could be easily turned off, there was AR that they basically used a handful of times and forgot about. StreetPass was cool though. The Super NES did have those shoulder buttons which was a big deal I think and Mode 7 pseudo-3D (later full basic 3D with the Super FX chip). Nothing probably that big here. Mouse mode and a Campus/Community feature seem like the big new adds, but that could really help the Switch 2 feel more connected as Nintendo hasn't done a great job of that in the past.

lol, people are going to talk more about Switch 2 now, not less. I don't think Pokemon Legends is even making February. DK Returns and Xenoblade X ... no offense to people who are fans of those games, but that's like nothing housekeeping for Nintendo. A port of low selling Wii U game and a DK game they needed to throw out there because of the theme parking opening of the DK area.

I would not be surprised if there is something else for the Switch 2 between now and April 2nd. For the Switch they had a big appearance of the system on Jimmy Fallon in December 2016 before the big January Switch 1 Nintendo Direct.

sounds like Silksong may actly be getting revealed in the April 2nd direct. Producer dropped a pic of cake (which — upon reverse image searching — originated from a recipe shared on April 2nd, 2024).
