Oh please, for the love of God !!!!.....You guys crack me up.....Keep on loving your old days of Nintendo.....from your childhood.....

Twisted Metal spanks the N64.....Period......

P.S. I still play TM2 to this DAY !!!!

(the NY level, as Grasshopper, is my fav)

I had Twisted Metal 3 and Vigilante 8 1 and 2. Both Vigilante 8 games were so much better to me, and they're available on the N64.

Vigilante 8 goes down as one of the most overlooked titles of all time. Excellent games that deserved more love. They had a nice mechanical feel/physics that Twisted Metal lacked (I'm not a fan of Arcadey car handling, including Burnout. Speed Kings was an exception).

To each their own...

N64 because it's library had a more meaningful impact, and it has 4 controller ports unlike the PS1. Baffles me that PS2 didn't have 4 controller ports either.

Games like Quake 2, Twisted Metal 3+4, Crash Team Racing, Destruction Derby, Blast Chamber and pretty much all WWF, FIFA, Madden, NFL and NBA games support upwards of 8 players.

Local Multiplayer was nowhere near as awesome as the N64, but the PS1 still had the option... And arguably could have more players than the N64 with up to 8 controllers supported.

PS1 all day, every day and TWICE on Sunday!

I have massive amounts of respect for what Ocarina and Mario 64 did for gaming as a whole, there's definitely a before and after those two games, but when you compare those massive heavy hitters to the heavy hitters of the PS1 like: Metal Gear Solid, the FF trilogy, Tekken 3, RE trilogy, Silent Hill AND Crash Trilogy...it's like, woah! The PS1 simply has too many bangers for it to be anything other than my favorite console of all time!

PS1 is not “from your childhood”?

Unless one was an adult back then, but then N64 wasn’t “from your childhood” either. In fact, PS1 is older regardless. “Twisted Metal spanks N64 period, keep on loving your old days of Nintendo”, but then it’s “to each their own” anyway. You’re making no sense my man.

PS1 for me. A much larger library of games I'd want to play. Ocarina of Time, Banjo-Kazooie, and Super Mario 64 are the ones I'd really miss from the N64... but as per OP, it's only for one year. There's more than enough quality PS1 games to see me through that period, including (but not limited to)

Alundra
Crash 1-3
Dino Crisis 1-2
Grand Theft Auto
Metal Gear Solid
Powerslave
Resident Evil 1-3 (although of course Resi 2 is on N64 too)
Soul Reaver
Spyro
Tomb Raider 1-5

For up to a year only? A toss between N64 and PS1, though probably N64.
For more than that? PS1, no doubt.

That's actually a good point. If you're stuck with one for a year or maybe a few years, N64 makes the most sense.

PS1 has way more games overall, so it would last you a decade or more.

Very interesting responses.

I suppose the reason why I chose the N64 was because it feels more modern in today's world... which is weird, because back then, it was the opposite. CDs, these huge cut-scenes, amazing audio, edgy, adult games like Resident Evil and Metal Gear Solid. The Playstation felt like the future of gaming. But now, oddly, the N64 feels less outdated to me. There are no load times, the system is dead quiet. There are no memory cards. Some of the games like Diddy Kong Racing feel--sans graphical prowess, of course--very close to their modern counterparts (I love FF9; but compare it to FF16 and it feels like you're playing a game from the 1800's). It's just feels less archaic to me in '25, so if I had to live with only one of these consoles for one whole year, I think it would have to be N64 for that reason alone. And it sure had enough games. Hell, 100% DK64 would take three months by itself haha.

Super Mario 64, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time & Majora's Mask, Banjo Kazooie & Tooie. These games alone are more than enough to place N64 over PS1 imo. I much prefer a few ultra high quality releases over several very great games.
