Around the Network

Late 2027 or late 2028 I can see it.

I really hate it when they start talking up next gen. How many exclusives have we got that weren't made for last gen, just a handful of games. It feels like we are still in the early stages and far too soon to let ps6 be mentioned.

It's something that we'll need to adjust to. Generations are just not what they used to mean.

We need longer generations now. Look at how many years it takes to make a game these days. We're 4 years into ps5 life cycle and we're still getting ps4 games. Back in the days, only EA would support an old hardware like that with legacy fifa games (ps1 got fifa games till fifa 2005, ps2 till fifa 14, ps3, thanks to switch, got fifa till fifa 19, so 2004, 2013, 2018).

But let's take a look at other games. Like final fantasy. On nes, snes and ps1, we got 3. On ps2, we can argue that we still got 3 even though 11 is online and ps2 online... on ps3, we got one (ff13), on ps4 we got one (ff15, and it's a chance that they changed versus 13 to 15 otherwise we would have gotten none (except for 14, but we got it way back from ps3 to ps5) and 16 on ps5. Yes, we got ff7 remake, but you get my point. Even considering that : ff7-1 got announced in 2015 back in ps4 era but only saw a release in ps5 era, almost (months prior to release only).

Either use of IA speeds up developments in the future or we're not getting any new interesting generation gap (not even including the stupid mid gen upgrade to make sure that it's even less of a gap).

How many games have you seen on ps5 and xbox series that are really not possible on ps4 ? And don't tell me ff7 rebirth, it has the same engine as remake, a ps4 game.

When i began on snes, i was amazed by the gap i saw between the nes i had in hands from my old cousin and snes games. When ps1 came out, it was a blast. When ps2 and others came out, it was magnificient (luigi's mansion being my wow effect for that generation, at first).

When i jumped to ps3, the only way i had a shock was by changing my tv from crt to full hd. Otherwise, it wouldn't have made such an impact. But when i saw ps4 games, i said "I pass on that generation". Why ? With my ps5, i have some ps4 games, and you know what they are ? Ps3 enhanced games (god of war 3, the last of us, uncharted).

And on top of that, on the same tv, i dare you to really see the difference between ps3 the last of us, ps4 the last of us and ps5 the last of us. Except one will be in full hd and the others might be in 4k, there are no differences.

The generations needs to be 10 years with no mid gen upgrade, i want my wow effect back. And on top of that, ps6 will have a ssd, which means that we won't even see the difference in load times between it and ps5 versions of games, unlike with ps4 versions today.

If gta 6 isn't the wow effect of that gen, then the wow effect is something from the past, you know, the time when you were dreaming about future games and imagine that wow effect that would make you purchase the new system by looking at games announced and be amazed by how good they look.
