Forums - General - Possibly More Racists Voting For Obama than Against Him

I'm just gonna stay away from this topic...

I don't even know how to argue about race...just feels like racism to me.

I don't see how voting for someone solely because of their race is any different than voting for someone solely because of their gender or party. Most people pick their candidate for all the wrong reasons. Go, Democracy!

If ever there was a Korean running for president, no way in hell 90% of koreans would vote for him/her.

 y not?

Zenophobe, please, get a clue.

Bill Clinton, Gore and Kerry each earned close to 90 percent of the black vote. Do you know WHY they earned that much? They're Dems. Bush got less than 8-9 percent of the black vote. Blacks rarely vote GOP. They don't agree with the GOP, they have been shafted by the GOP for years.

Nice try but this is a primary of two Democrats, not a national election.

I wouldn't necessarily call it racism. I would call it identity politics. You raised the question if a black candidate was running for the GOP, he would get the vote of the black population. I would beg to differ.

Look at the Leaders of the GOP that happen to be black (eg. Clarence Thomas, J.C. Watts, Condy Rice, Lynn Swan, etc.). They have all been called Uncle Toms. I mean they aren't forgetting their heritage, but rather see things differently and they get attacked by the Democrat machine for being "Off the reservation," if you will.

The fact is that Democrats promise things to the minorities, and rarely finish the promise, but give them just enough to show that they "care." In this way they keep their votes locked up. Also this is the reason why the minorities (specifically blacks) don't attempt the same level of success as other minorities. They are promised these things and (may) feel like they just have to wait for someone to help them, instead of taking the initiative to get themselves up.

I am not an expert in this, but that is at least what I think.

Heheh, glad someone else noticed that, much like the GOP's Religious Right, the Democrats have pandered to minorities for years and provided very little in return for their votes.

It's funny that people like MadSkillz claim that the GOP has been shafting minorities for years when in fact, it's been the Democrats who have been shafting them. After all, most minorities aren't voting GOP, they're voting Democrat. And they continue to get shit on by the party in return for that loyalty.

there are more than triple the amount of whites in usa than blacks, so if most of the blacks voted for him, lets say about 30 million, theres about another 250 million whites to vote for clinton or mcain rite?

Rocketpig, can you name any programs that the GOP has done for blacks? Seriously - they shun blacks and don't even try and hide it. At least the Dems try to make attempts to help blacks. There's no doubt blacks get shafted all over the place, and now, there's a Dem who's black and has a real chance at the White House and folks call it racism. Unbelieveable.

The GOP has written off blacks completely. They have actually cut programs that would help children (Headstart, SCHIP), pretty much axed Social Security and expect folks to make enough to contribute to their 401K. And wasn't it a GOPer - Madame Bush - who said the Katrina victims were better off? And another jackass said 'Folks in New Orleans should have gassed up their SUVs, grabbed their spring water and left.' There is such a disconnect among GOPers toward minorities, but especially blacks. And as a black man, I have a blast explaining why I'll never vote GOP.

In the end, McCain isn't wasting his time, as well as the GOP, courting blacks. From Nixon to Bush, they've never got the black vote, always Dems.

OT: Obama gets a lot of the black vote because he connects with a message for blacks. Hillary can't. If she steals the nomination, you can bet your bottom dollar blacks won't vote period. The candidate with the most delegates and the popular vote wins. If the supers don't want riots, they'll get the candidate who wins.

If Hillary gets it fair and square, I'll support the Dems and vote for her. If not and she steals the nomination, look out.

Mark my words.

@ Copy Con - thanks for the props, bro!

So, you are basically saying republicans are racists?

How open minded.

I actually remember in 2000 my dad was talking with a black bush supporter, I think they were both formally marines or something.
A great time, so full of hope... *sigh*

@dsoverpsp.
There has been couple of Korean Americans running for office in the past. They didn't get 90% support from the Koreans.
I believe Korean Americans are pretty equally divided between the parties. More for democrats than republicans.

It so happens that the first elected Korean in s. cal. got busted for fraud. Koreans were very embarrassed by that so I think Korean Americans would think twice before supporting a candidate just because he/she was Korean.

@luinil
I tend to agree with your thoughts.
republicans have their issues as well.
