I doubt you would like the source version more but who knows. There's also Black Mesa which is a fanmade remake of 1 that's one of the best remakes ever. Valve themselves have basicly acknowledged it.

Well I kinda messed up my playthrough of it when I played it years ago - noclipping and such lmao.

I'll play it legitimately this time without any cheats.

Around the Network

I still need to play Alyx, that'll still be the biggest factor in pushing me to get a VR headset when I do finally get one. Also one thing Half-Life 2 turning 20 shows is that video games have gotten to the point where even some 3D ones that are 20 years old hold up well enough visually to not look extremely outdated. It could be argued this was reached a couple years ago but Half-Life 2 really was something for 2004.

Alyx is a masterpiece by itself! Valve showing they've still got it. VR is 100% the best way to play the game, but you can also use the NoVR mod. It takes away some of the more immersive gameplay elements, but the game is still incredible to play and clearly has game design philosophy of the 2000s still. The game is on sale for only $20 till this Friday if you wanna pick it up and play with the mod until you get a VR headset. All achievements are unlockable with the mod too btw. Here's some gameplay:

And here's the link to the most recent version of the mod:

Half-Life Alyx NoVR Launcher (August 20, 2024) file - ModDB

The mod is a launcher, so it auto-updates whenever there's a new version out.

I won't play it that way the first time since I wanna experience it the best way possible. I'll probably try that mod afterwards to see how it compares out of curiosity though so thanks for the suggestion!
