Forums - Sales Discussion - Switch Ships 146.04 Million Units as of September 2024

Xenoblade 3 selling the same as Xenoblade DE is a bit disappointing...

To my understanding, those numbers are not updated but that does not mean that these games did not move in terms of sales.

So any game that is out of the top 10 and did not sell over a million in the quarter does not have up to date numbers. They could be selling for example 100k per quarter and have moved a decent amount of units so far but we won't know.

Of course this doesn't mean XC3 has dropped 500k more than the remaster or something as the remaster is probably also selling during that time.

Does anybody have data info for "Other" region quartely? I have the impression Switch's sales are increasing in this region yearly but I'm not sure

IF the Christmas Quater is only remotly close to good it has a chance of getting the DS next year. About the PS2 it depends. IF the'll do ~ 154 million by march and forcast ~ 6 million thats basically a lock. (I go with a maximum of 159,2 most likley even lower because i do not buy lying Ryans rounded up number that has never been confirmed. IF the PS2 really had hit or surpassed 160 million, Sony sure as hell would have announced that in 2013 after discontinuation). But the hold was quite good. I expected 145,3 million.

So, if the Christmas quater is rubbish, i see 155 million as the absolute floor but not much further than that. But IF the Switch gets to around DS level by march (a 6 million FC would certenly help to push my optimism in this case) 160 million is basically a lock. But i would not (yet) call it the floor.

Congrats to Nintendo. Especially for being a company that "does it's own thing" and takes a few risks...

they should really push to ship those 162 millions Switch and, announce it. I know we are saying it but surely Sony will not want us to believe that they have sold more PS2 than PS3 in the last 10 years or PS4 in the 4?

Echoes of Wisdom sold 2,58 million copies in the first 5 days, Link's Awakening remake sold around 3,11 million in its first 11 days. So Echoes of Wisdom seems to be matching Link's Awakening remake pretty closely in the first few weeks launch period.

and Zelda sold 2.58mil in 4 days, not bad at all. we should be at 5 millions by now?

We do have a Sony guy saying 160m+.
We have picture of the last made PS2, with the exact unit number of PS2 produced. They put it on the side of it, on a plaque.

That's why I said, it needs to be 162m to be without a doubt, the best selling ever.
If it stops at like 159, or 160m, we will always be debating which actually sold more.

162m and its settled.
Switch is the #1 of all time.

If Nintendo hits their new 12,5 million forecast for hardware sales this fiscal year, if then Switch sees a huge sales decline of 50 % next fiscal year to around 6 million Switch sales, the Switch will be very close to overtaking PS2 160 million numbers at the end of the next fiscal year, it would then only need to sell like 2-3 million more Switch units to become the best selling console ever. Sounds very doable.

I think the fact that Switch 2 seems to be bound for a late 2025 release date is what sealed the fate of PS2 being the best selling system ever, because the Switch will have almost 1 year more as the only Nintendo console on the market, which will be enough to see lifetime sales of Switch surpass PS2.
