Forums - Sales Discussion - September 2024 VGChartz Estimates Thread - Americas, Europe, and Japan Estimates Out Now

Another rough drop for the PS5 and significantly lower than what the PS4 did but reaching 1m is still strong and even with the negative reception there will still be at least some portion of people waiting for the Pro so compared to August it's an improvement I'd say even if the YoY drop is slightly bigger. It should fare notably better YoY in October and the Pro will help at least some for November and to a lesser extent December.

Xbox Series on the other hand had probably its worst month of the year yet. September was always gonna be a tough comparison but nearly 56% down is disastrous no matter how you slice it and just under 300k in September is rough. It should hold up better the final three months but still Xbox hardware is in a really bad place and if 2025 wasn't looking like it was gonna be the biggest year for gaming this decade things would be looking truly dreadful heading into that year. Soon we'll see what impact if any the addition of COD to Game Pass will have but with the console player base of that mostly on Playstation and this generation being just about a full four years in it's too late for any major shifts at this point.

And the Switch had one of its best months of the year yet only being just under 22% down though I was actually expecting it to be down somewhat less than that. Zelda and the Lite model had some impact but not that much. October-December should all be down a lot for it but that's completely expected.

This will be the first year since the launch of the Switch where Japan will actually be its biggest hardware market, above even the US for this year. Shows how good the legs of Switch is in Japan.

Yeah the system seems almost immune to saturation in Japan, even now that it's already the highest selling console of all time there.

There's a Switch for every three people in Japan; that's equivalent to selling 115 million in the US, for comparison. Crazy stuff.
