I've posted tons of facts and data.  You have ignored it at every turn.

Fact: over a billion people stream music.

Fact: Switch digital sales grew 21%.

Fact: 89% of UK game sales are digital

At the end of the day my position is a prediction 20 years from now.  I can't be proven right or wrong.

So we agree to disagree and just remember this discussion when the switch 3 is announced.

The reason why I don't humor these facts is because they don't support the argument you made. It won't matter how big digital becomes if it can't achieve 100% of the pie, because that's the argument you made.

When sales of physical music are stable right now after about two decades of decline, then it means that physical music is here to stay. It's irrelevant how many people stream music when the sales data shows that people still buy physical media and will continue to do so.

When Switch digital sales grow, but the majority of games that are available in both physical and digital format still have physical as the dominant format, then we are a long way off from an all-digital future. And when not even music with its ridiculously low prices of admission can achieve all-digital, what are the chances for video games to pull it off.

When 89% of UK game sales are digital, why would this matter when Nintendo won't go all-digital. As long as Nintendo sells physical copies, your claim is bound to be false.

When you fall back on "this is way in the future, so I can't be proven right or wrong", then logically this would apply the other way as well. Which means that you definitely owe me an apology for all of your condescending behavior, because it is now your stance that you are unable to prove me wrong. Mind you, I don't agree with your stance, but I ask for consistency on your part.

But wrapping this up on a more serious note, with you there's at least a chance that you will still be around in a decade or so. The same could never be said about your buddy zeldaring.

Condescending behavior?  You called me a fool, made a backhanded jab at my data skills and lied about me not posting data.

Don't throw stones and act the victim latter

And yes, it will take decades but I believe gaming will be all digital.  We are headed that way like a freight train.

As for Zeldaring, a shame about his situation.  I have no idea what that has to do with the conversation, other than you wanted to jab at him, thus see point number 1 about your victim act, lol.

Newest ps5 pro rumours have it being released without a disk drive, but with support via external. If true, another (small) step towards a digital future.

My steam library is like 10 games. Yep, that is how much I give a shit about digital media. At least with GOG you can download the installers I guess.

I started collecting classic PC games this year and now own about 200 boxed copies. I like having them as a physical object on my shelf so much that I've started burning some of my Steam games to disc and creating cases for them. They are patched to work offline without steam and can even work for LAN multiplayer even if the game only supports online multiplayer through steam normally. There's something nice about having the disc on my shelf knowing the game will work completely offline and be playable decades from now no matter what happens.

At least for PC you can create your own physical media.

"Would you quit gaming if the industry went full digital?"

The problem is not only the exclusive digital, but that along with that comes the garbage games, movies, etc embedded with "woke" ideology. So there are two big garbage things at the core of all artistic productions.
The digital itself its a big problem because there would be no option, and when that happens you will be forced to accept their conditions if you want to play/watch.

Uhhhh... do you just go around complaining about "woke"ness in random places where it is completely irrelevant? What a strange sad existence.

Personally, I went all-digital beginning with the PS4. I also have a Switch (all digital purchases) and PS5 (again, only digital games). In the case of the PS4, it has a 1TB 2.5" SSD in it; my Switch has a 512GB microSD; and the PS5 has a 2TB M.2 SSD (in addition to its built-in 825GB of storage). I have TONS of space on the Switch still, I did have to delete some PS4 titles, and so far, my PS5 has my entire collection on it still (though, I am sure I will eventually have to delete a few games to make room for others).

I love being digital. Being able to boot up a system and select any game is nice, without switching discs or cartridges. I rarely if ever borrowed games to friends before, so that isn't an issue to me.

That said, I fully understand and am still cautious about the perils of digital. I have never had this happen to me, but I know it is possible to have titles licenses revoked and the game deleted from your own console. So far, every game I own I can still re-download without a problem, but that might not always be so. It's why I always keep my favorites installed.

Buying physical eliminates that problem, but at the same time, every physical disc is going to have tons and tons of patches and other possible enhancements/expansions/free items and modes added to it over time. I will use Stellar Blade as an example:

1) Disc does not have New Game Plus mode on it

2) Disc is missing, at this time, at least 12+ new outfits and other items added freely to it since launch

3) Disc is missing Boss Rush Challenge mode

4) Of course, there are the usual 100's of bug fixes, balance updates, and visual and performance enhancements made to it over time

5) Photomode will be added in Sep

6) Other possible expansions later on

Now, the disc does still let you play the game, for sure. But - if Sony ever turned off the servers allowing you to re-download the digital copy, that same principal would also mean the physical copy can't redownload all those updates I just described. In that sense, yes the physical copy does lose a lot of its appeal.

This just the nature of today's gaming landscape though. I have my PSone and my original copy of Silent Hill that I am playing through. But that physical CD is the entire game, because the game never changed or had anything added to it or fixed. What you got is what you got haha

What is the sudden rise in this forum of accounts with no avatars whining about being "woke" do we need to get the orkin man in here as there is a sudden infestation of insects?

I always figured emulation will prevent folks from removing most games digital games from people's system.  If Steam went down, which it won't, give hackers a month and there will be a simple solution.  Emulation isn't hard anymore.

If Nintendo were to remove my digital switch games, I would be able to emulate what I need in a hour, and at 4k 60 fps.

I'm guessing it's alts of people who were banned who are now demonstrating that the bans were justified.
