Everyone fixates on Nintendo first party vs. third party.

The reason Nintendo has good first party games is because it has been at this for a quarter century. I also see 5-6 different IPs (at least) in that list of 5-million games -- so it shows some variation in what is selling and what is being produced.

I am not sure that Sony or Microsoft have 5-6 top-line IPs -- let alone ones that could sell 5M.

Mike

Sony and Microsoft don't need it, they actually have third-party support.

I have more respect for a company that can make a profit when it's last in that generation and is almost only (well) supported by itself then companies that have to give out moneybags for 3rd-party games, but whatever... We all know that you dislike Nintendo so why bother?

Lulz.

I don't dislike Nintendo.

The third-party jab (at the OP) was just to make this thread go off-topic, since these 'Wii sells software' threads are all basically the same.

I won't lie, and say that I love Nintendo, cause I don't; But I've got nothing against them, just people that don't acknowledge it's third-party situation.

Ok, here's the thing... We all know Nintendo games sell crazy on Nintendo consoles. Captain obvious speaking here i guess... But 3rd-parties keep complaining even in this gen! That is something i don't get! It has been proven by some developers (Activision, Ubisoft etc... With GH3, RRR, RE4 etc...) that the userbase for this Nintendo-console is big enough to support enough software sold for 3rd parties to make a sweet profit!

And me: I have nothing against Sony, just wanted to say that! I have a PS3 and a Wii, so no. I'm not biased! Although i like Nintendo more then Sony, can't deny that ^^... We're cool right?!

This might be the 3rd time I've posted this today.

All big budget 3rd party titles out right now were planned and in development prior to the launch of the Wii. At that point most developers/publishers had wrote off the Wii and very few put much budget into their Wii titles.

Now that they know the success of Wii, we've read how they've tripped over themselves to reallocate resources to Wii development.

Big budget development is a 2-3 year investment and we will start to see those on Wii later this year to early next year.

I think the big question is (for me): when will we see a 3rd party have the kind of breakout succuess, in terms of the uber-numbers for more "typical" gamer fare from 3rd parties?

The DS has had those sorts of titles for awhile now - your Prof. Laytons, Cooking Mama, and the like. But the Wii, thus far, just has Carnival Games (a spinoff of Wii Sports/Play), and Guitar Hero 3. Outside of that, it's been budget succuess, or games that seem to be overtracked by VGC.

Time will tell. But for 3rd party developers, seeing the top 10 or 20 being almost entirely dominated by Nintendo, while big 3rd party games are much lower on the list...Is not a good thing.

That's because the top 10 for Wii software will soon exist solely out of 5mil+ sellers... You know, games that sell 500k on a system like the Wii can make a rather good profit! So i really don't get the point!... Or am i missing something here?!... And with what kind of crap most 3rd-party developers are coming they sometimes don't even deserve half of that!... Because they obviously CAN do better if they just wanted to spend time on their games for Wii... Because casual doesn't equal gimped graphics and less gameplay, although some devs tend to think so!

EDIT: And it's just a matter of time until the Wii starts getting big 3rd-party projects more frequently. Re4 and stuff were just to 'test' the watters (of the so called Blue Ocean, lol). And now that the Wii has garnerd such a grotesque userbase so quickly there are more and more 'hardcore' or bigname games coming to the system. Games as

-Fatal Frame.

-Monster Hunter.

-Tales of Symphonia.

-Okami.

Etc...

None of those games will sell 5 million though

Since when is 5 million the benchmark for success?

When PS3 gets a 5 million seller, first party, second party, third party,  pizza party, I don't care, then get back to us.

He seems up how I feel pretty accurately.  Nintendo has never been good at sharing with third parties, and I don't really see it starting now.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

ps2 only had 13 5mil games...why does a 3rd party have to sell 5mil to say 3rd parties can do well on the wii?

Bets:Missed by 420k I bet leo-j vg$500 that wii will sell 31 million by 7/31/08.  Sorry, I don't think he has enough vg$ to make it with all of u that wish you could. Hit, with room to spare I bet kingofwale a 1-week ban that wii Americas ltd sales>360 Americas ltd sales as of the numbers for week ending 7/05/08 (using vgchartz homepage #s)

Predictions:

Wii will sell 18-20mil by 12/31/07  CHECKWii will sell 45mil+ WW by 12/31/08Wii will surpass PS2 sales WW by 11/17/11 (5yr anniversary)Wii Fit will hit 12mil sales in 2009MKWii+SSBB+Wii Fit+SMG > 50 mil sales by 2010 > gta4+mgs+gt5+ff13+haze+lbp

SERIOUSLY! What is your problem?! Why don't you just read my post(s)... Like i said: A game DOESN'T NEED TO SELL 5 MILLION TO MAKE A PROFIT! i figure 500k equals good profit for an average 3rd party developer on Wii...

So, here's the deal: When there's a PS3 game (1st or 3rd party) that sells over 5 million (without bundles) THIS YEAR! I'll eat my nunchuk!...      Stupid ignorant fanboys, can't argue with them... *sigh*... And here's a hint: READ POSTS BEFORE YOU COMMENT!

I was bringing it back into the context of the OP

I read your post, but the OP is talking about 5 million+ sellers, which none of them will be.

Ignorant fanboy?

lulz, I may or may not be a fanboy, but I'm not ignorant.
