why all the hate lately?

I like how people completely disregard Nintendo's dedication to software support. Nintendo is devoting their time to developing software for multiple demographics. Nintendo doesn't have much control of third party developers, but they are pulling on the rope in the same way they've been pulling on it since their inception. Nintendo has traditionally been the leading developer of their own system. Why do people think things should be different now?

So yes, these "magical games" have materialized for the Wii and will continue to. Zelda, Mario Kart, Super Mario Galaxy, Super Smash Bros, Metroid Prime.

If somebody could explain to me how these games were not made for gamers, I'm willing to listen.

Wow, this article was very hateful, and poorly written.

But there's no way to argue with sales of the system, so he's a tool.

This is a preemptive strike against the upcoming WiiFit release. I'm not sure why it's so extreme, I've never seen anything quite like this. I think some "core" gamers might be upset that gaming is becoming more universally accessable.

2008: Nintendo Waves Goodbye to Gamers

Staff Blog entry on April 23rd, 2008

This week we’re going to see just how divided the market has become over the past two years. Two massive titles both being released at around the same time, neither of which will impact the sales of the other in the slightest. This week we see the first clear-cut fork in the road: GTA IV shows us the future of hardcore gaming machines, Wii Fit shows us the future of an entirely new direction in gaming which has become so complex and massive that the term ‘casual’ just doesn’t seem to do it justice anymore.

...

The crossover of hardcore and casual gamers between the two console types is going to wane soon enough: whilst all of us had hope for the Wii because of the potential the wiimote provided, it’s been almost two years now and there are still practically no games that make good use of the Wii’s strengths. Sure, we get thrown a bone once in a while- but Mario Kart and Smash Bros. don’t really cut it (the former in particular seems to have ramped up the luck factor considerably, in what I suspect is a planned mechanic to add more of a Wii-sports feel of the playing field being level regardless of skill). Don’t get me wrong - it’s still a fun little console - but as a primary console for serious gamers it’s simply never going to be able to stand up to either the 360 or the PS3.

...

Honestly the guy hasn't really done any research or analyzing any time recently or he would know that the Wii has been on the market 74 weeks and the PS3 for 76 weeks. The PS3 isn't even at 1.5 years yet and he is already rounding up to two years. I think it is reasonable to expect someone who thinks himself an analyst to remember that both consoles launched in Nov of '06 and that assuming he is aware of the current date he could figure out that November is still more than 6 months away.

There are more of these discrepencies in the article but the point I'm illustrating is that this guy set out to make this case without an objective thought in his head. The entire article from the GTA IV lip service to the "the wii is cute for n00bs" attitude is built around one central theme: Promote "real gaming" through attacks on "casual gaming".

There is an expression that says, "You always talk about who's on top."

It also seems like soem are getting a crab mentality.   Put crabs in a box and they'll all pull the top one down so it can't get out.   Basically they'll do what they can to keep one from succeeding.  I'm seeing this same mentality happening now.  Nintendo is finally doing well in popularity again and some people don't like it so they do what they can to bring it down.

The rEVOLution is not being televised

Hopefully Kid Icarus, Animal Crossing, Pikmin 3, and Disaster: DoC will use the Wii's strengths in brand new ways... We'll have to wait and see...

A little optimistic eh? especially when non of those games have been announced and the only game err weight loss device the wii has to look foward to is wiifit after that then what? third party support or non support will hurt the wii not help it.
