Going by the score given to them by critics, it's obvious that party games are not popular with game reviewers. However, they are selling at an all time high level. Some are scored high and sell well, Guitar Hero series, Rock Band, older DDR games in their time, etc. Others sell well but are blasted by critics, Wii sports, Mario Party Series, Big Brain Academy, even Mario Kart takes heat from a lot of critics. Others are really good for the party genre but don't sell a lot, (at least in NA, I know a few of these are huge in 'Others'), Buzz, Singstar, Scene It.
What games do you think are great party games? I recently picked up Buzz & Buzz Hollywood at sale/showcase Sony had for them at TRU and was very surprised at how much fun they were when we had about 8 people playing. The original was much better than Hollywood, but both were above my expectations. Wii Sports is always a request from company at my house, and even though I'm long over it, it always is fun with 4 players. SSSB, MK & F-Zero are also up a lot, with the right friends over. My wife and daughter always pull out DDR when we have a few of my daughter's friends over. And I've recently had a roomful of friends all playing old school pinball games with Pinball Hall of Fame: The Williams Collection.
