Forums - Gaming - The Olympic Esports Games are official

Well, this is quite an unexpected surprise, but the International Olympic Committee have unanimously voted yes on the creation of these games.

Any thoughts on whether this should've been a thing or not? And what games would you like to see used in competition?

The most immediate ones that come to mind are Counter-Strike, League of Legends, and Street Fighter. But it would be pretty cool to see franchises like StarCraft and Quake be added to the roster.

It's cool to see gaming grow to such an extent and I wish everyone who participates the best of luck, but I don't think this should exist.

Olympic games in general are a burden on the local economy, this will be no different.

On a side note; it would be interesting to see what categories could be created. Will it have speedruns and challenge runs such as a no-hit dark souls run, or blindfolded runs?

I honestly wanna see this just for the lulz.

lol playing games as an Olympic sport. Sorry, I don't consider it a sport. Competitive yes. Skilled yes. But to me, sports are reserved for those who are athletic. Olympic athletes train their lives for this. They won't be drinking Monster sitting in a chair. Yeah next to the 100-meter dash, shot put. let's see some dopes playing Fortnite.

We're talking very different scale, more like a world championships in shooting or some sport like that.

I think such event should include some classic games of extreme simplicity, starting with straight up Pong.

The Games have only now just been approved to be created, so it'll be at least several years before the first Esports Games happen. But if it's anything like the traditional Olympic Games, countries will bid on hosting, build (in this case) arenas to play all the games, etc.
