Forums - Politics Discussion - 2024 US Presidential Election

Looks like the German government is falling apart. It's the end of the world as we know it.

Legend11 correctly predicted that GTA IV will outsell Super Smash Bros. Brawl. I was wrong.

Redskins Rule - Wikipedia

Basically, yes. It's something that I turned into a running joke because the run-up to the election took forever and it was quite boring to follow for a long time. And because BFR took it seriously the first time I made a connection between NFL teams and swing states; and he still did until this day with his attempt at a gotcha post. I didn't go for the Redskins Rule specifically because for one, it's not about a swing state, and two, it was proven to be wrong before.

How nice of you to finally admit that your posts should not be taken seriously. Your NFL joke ran into a red wall.

Yup, this running joke was a well-kept secret. It's probably fair to say that nobody aside from Ryuu had figured that out.

And I'm not even American!

Or watch the NFL.

Americans haven't been watching the NFL this year either, they've been too busy going to Kamala's campaign rallies.

There definitely is! My gaming computer has an AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D and Radeon RX 6600 XT with 32 GB of RAM and 2 1TB drives (1 NVME and 1 HDD).

Nice won. Which do you prefer to game on?

It depends on the game. I like to play shooters on my computer for example, but if a game seems to be more optimized on consoles than PC (like Jedi Survivor), I'll play it on console instead. I switch between Xbox and PlayStation for that. I'll be playing Sonic X Shadow Generations on my Xbox soon.

All votes haven't been counted yet, but as of right now, this graph checks out for being a few hours old.

2020
81m (D) +74m (R) = 155m votes in total

2024
66m (D) + 72m (R) = 138m votes in total

If the 15m missing Democratic voters went over to vote for Trump, I can at least understand their reasoning.
But as of now around 15 million of the Democratic voters essentially just decided not to vote.
Best to do this comparison after all votes have been counted though. It might allign a bit closer in the end, but man...

I made an excel sheet for this, and I probably made some mistakes. Comparing to 2020, maybe it would be worth comparing to 2016 as well. But I'm not sure I have time for that today.

A big chunk of these missing votes is in California, where they are only 58% in. That's about 5.5 million of the missing votes.

There are a few states where Kamala outperformed Biden - Wisconsin, Georgia, North Carolina (basically tied).  Trump just outperformed more.

A bunch of blue strongholds lost a lot of votes. Illinois, Massachusetts, New York. Lost close to a million votes compared to Biden in New York.

Most states on the Trump side look pretty tight to me.

A big shift in Texas, 500k who voted for Biden didn't vote for Kamala, and Trump saw a similar increase.

Some of that 15m will go away. But it seems like something like 10m Democrats didn't bother voting.

She lost because of the economy I.E. Inflation/Grocery Prices, Imho. But on the flip side, if there weren't so many people comfortable with knowingly voting for a fascist, she wouldn't have lost, and that's the scary thing to me. Hatred and bigotry won.

America is rotten to its core, a lot of people comfortable with fascism and a poor education system wherein people will vote for a convicted felon and man who tried to overthrow democracy because they foolishly believe he will bring the price of their bread and eggs down.

I am trying not to be mad at Americans as a whole but it's difficult, I really despise America as a country right now

This.  This is why you lose.

I understand you're coping and seething right now.  But if liberals ever want to win anything again, you must be retrospective.

So it's simply not appropriate for Democrats to claim the election was rigged?

I pointed out in the past that post-COVID inflation had battered incumbent parties across Europe so it was my primary concern with America, I don't see why America would be any different in that regard. Even parties that still won their elections in Europe suffered significant hits. People are hurting to afford basic goods and the party in charge receives the blame.

Hit Japan too whose economy is taking a beating lately, Japan's LDP lost their parliamentary majority for the first time since 2009. Right wing parties have swapped to left wing parties and left wing parties have swapped to right wing parties all across Europe, Lol. Tories (right wing) in the UK lost a 14 year old rule to the centre-left Labour, Poland's PiS lost power after 8 years. South Korea's liberal opposition party won a landslide majority. Incumbents are being absolutely hammered across the world, it's less a right/left thing and just who is currently in power.

It's smashing the current sitting party in Australia as well.

Even though the inflation was caused by the previous government and the current government is cleaning up their mess... It's hard for voters to look at things systematically or empirically and at the bigger picture, people like to look at the here-and-now.

That... And inflation has been the "excuse" for some big companies here to start price gouging, which ironically is causing even more inflation... Some crap has gone up 50-100% in price which outstrips inflation by orders of magnitude.

The next election there is definitely going to be a change of Government.

It still baffles me that the USA.. The supposed shining example of democracy... It's not mandatory to vote.
But it also showcases that not-voting is a vote itself.

I am going to assume a large chunk of that is because Kamala didn't have the time to actually campaign? It was only a couple of months.
Trump has essentially been Campaigning for the last 4 years and was elected previously, so people knew what they were getting.

Social Media (Likely underpinned by Twitter) tended to always talk about Trump, he is what gets the reactions, clicks and revenue I guess.

Maybe this is naive of me, but at this point I would rather the Republicans take the House as well. That way they have control of all the branches of government and both houses of congress. They would have to own everything that happens in the next 2 years. No blaming it on the Dems. I think this will better position the Dems to potentially take back the House and Senate in 2 years.

Having the House would be a symbolic victory at this point. They would have oversight authority into the administration but investigating Trump has proved to be a waste. Time to rebuild the party. We have to deal with Trump then post-Trump America.

Holding the House would mean that Democrats could block Trump's legislation.

As for them "owning it" - I have lived in Oklahoma much of my life. Since 1994, Republican leadership has evolved into Oklahoma becoming a single party state as of 2008. Oklahoma ranks at the bottom of every indicator of the country - health, education, infant mortality. In addition, any business of any significance in Oklahoma ends up moving to Houston or Dallas, because Oklahoma is almost surrounded by Texas and cannot possibly hope to compete. The DFW metro, just 150 miles away from OKC, has nearly twice the population of the entire state of Oklahoma. Other than New Jersey, I can't think of another state that is a satellite of a larger neighbor to the degree of Oklahoma and Texas. The roads are complete shit, despite almost all of them being tolled rather heavily.

People in Oklahoma are not happy. They complain about the constant dysfunction.  But despite the fact that the Republicans have ruled this state to the degree which Viktor Orban's Fidesz party rules Hungary, they still blame their problems on a Democratic Party which has all but vanished.

I heard BlueSky is kind of positive vibes but dead as fuck, Lol. I probably won't bother with it, I'm not sure, I only had Twitter to follow Gaming news and then post about it in VGChartz but the days of TwitterBoy are over and I'm no longer the Xbox news poster, which means I really don't have much need for Twitter or BlueSky. Besides...So much of gaming news is negative filled lately, I'm just drained by everything, Lol. Man I just want to have fun playing games, Lol. If it's not real life being mentally exhausting it's discussion around videogames being mentally exhausting. I can't escape the negativity wherever I go and it's making me into a cranky, more argumentative person and I don't like it, Lol.

It's another echo chamber, one that will also not be free from AI nonsense and I've seen some Marxists moving over there as well.

If anything I just see Bsky as being another Titanic (like how Twitter is right now). It's just heading slowly towards it's own course with an iceberg. You're honestly better off with this site and discord, you'll be better off talking with friends and the community here than on social media, where you know shit is going to get spun.

I've also tried the other sites before BSky btw. I was there when Pillowfort was a thing, it was meant to be the tumblr for artists, it crashed and burned. Did the same for Itaku, and that has an interesting SFW/NSFW system layout (can literally switch profiles to view what content you wish to see and users get to control their own tagging and edit in real time, which was such a good feature), but that also had gone super quiet/dying.

You've also seen how general journos are acting right now in the games/news industries, relying on twitter posts hearsay and gaming journos out there using AI to quickly spew out articles, it's not really productive and leads to more and more misinformation (like that fake NDA page on that DA thread for example).

@Bold

I was going into Elder Scrolls Online Steam forums the other night and it's just... negativity (you can guess and likely know why). It's best to just cut as many sources of that kind of media out.
