My issue is Japan is really starting to abandoned core gaming, you know the ones we mainly play other then nintendo games, and not games I like, it's games that are recognized as quality and big hits all over the world. I would put it like this if every region loved nintendo games and the US was like oh nintendo games are too kiddy that's how basically Japan is right now with anything that's not family friendly it's small market for those type of games in japan.

Not sure why it matters to you whether those games are actually "quality" (which is a rich thing to be saying given how CoD, Madden, and FIFA dominate US/European charts). Not sure why it matters to you that the "Japanese likes the kiddy games". They consent, but you don't...and we're discussing what games they wanna play. Why does it matter to you? It shouldn't be viewed as "sad" when one culture favors a certain market of games which may not appeal to another. Whether this be Americans favoring shooters over Pokémon, or Japanese favoring Genshin over Call of Duty.

I would be saying the samething about the US market if most quality  Japanese games were bombing but thankfully the US is very open to  games that's considered  quality by the gaming world, but japan just isn't. I can guarantee you if nintendo wasn't killing it in Japan no one would defending japan's very limited tastes in games. Thankfully everything is thriving in the west markets with even crash trilogy doing 20 million. The western markets tase in games are more diverse then they ever been which is a great thing mean while japan's are more limited then they ever been but yea that's not a sad thing.

you didn't address a single thing that I said: Why does it matter to you what they enjoy? And since when was "quality" an objective metric?

Many games have huge budgets and the more sales the better for developers so of course it matters, you only need one game in a franchise to fail to get a developer  in trouble, so yea obviously japan is a huge region for game sales. Quality is a objective metric.

"Quality is an objective metric." ...yeah, I've got better things to do lol. Still never explained why what others enjoy is of any business to you. Nobody is morally obligated to support game developers, especially not the big boys like Capcom and SquEnix.

So your issue isn't really "there are no big hits other than Splatoon in the last 10-12 years" but rather "how dare the Japanese not like what I like".

Game quality is a matter of opinion. For a lot of folks, something like Suika Game or Momotaro is a better experience than something like RE4 or Elden Ring.

We are not talking about what someone thinks is more fun. We are talking about quality here something like resident evil 4, witcher 3 remake or BOTW has much higher quality then something like super meat boy or momotaro cause of the budget, and size of team making the game. Example someone might not like nintendo games  but we should still  recognize they make quality games. Of course everything can be argued, and is subjective in the end. it's also just not that it's devs that earned their respect by making hit after hit for generations.

I do understand where you are coming from, I guess people just define "quality" differently.

I agree it would be good if the release of Switch 2 can expand the sales of stuff like RE4 in Japan; I guess we will just have to wait and see.

You’re right and square enix realized this with their abysmal FF sales. Sadly due to the lengthy investment time they were locked in to supporting ps5 hardware. They’ve since learned their lesson and are abandoning ps exclusivity to support Nintendo hardware to get those AAA sales up you love so much.

Sony sadly abandoned Japan, taking down 3rd parties with them. Capcom shifted early and had one of switches top sellers in monster hunter. Others will follow.

it would be good to see ps5 focus on Japan again but they have simply abandoned the market. It’s not the Japanese consumers fault. If third parties want to be successful support the hardware that is in most homes. The flurry of third party bangers in switch 2 off the bat will probably be a good sign for your concerns. Call of duty, final fantasy, etc will all be there.

We are gonna see what switch 2 does with third-party aaa games hopefully they fo much better don't care if it's on ps5 or switch 2.

Agreed, but i don’t think it’s what switch 2 does with third party games it’s what 3rd parties do with switch 2.  Hard to blame them not supporting it after Wii u
