Nail in the coffin

US:

Xbox Series X will cost $599.99, up a whopping $100.
The 512GB Xbox Series S will meanwhile cost $379.99, up $80.
The 2TB Xbox Series X is now $729.99, up $130, and now more expensive than Sony's $699 PS5 Pro.

Europe:

Xbox Series X will cost £499.99 / €599.99 - an increase of £20 / $50.
The 512GB Xbox Series S will meanwhile cost £299.99 / €349.99 - an increase of £50 / €50.
If you're splashing out on the 2TB Xbox Series X model, that's up £40 or €50 to £589.99 / €699.99.

The prices of some upcoming Xbox games will rise to $80 (UK price TBA) at the end of this year, though existing games will not increase be impacted. Still, expect this fresh pricing to roll out in time for Call of Duty 2025 and whatever else Microsoft has out this Christmas.

The cost of certain controllers - and in the US, also headsets - will see small increases, too. The cost of Xbox Game Pass is staying the same, however.

For now GP is not increasing in price, but no doubt subscriptions will be next.

^ this, made me revisit this thread.

Yeah I think this is it... its not hitting 40m.

And I too think, its only a matter of time before Gamepass goes up another 5-10$ a month.

*edit:
Its all the models, the black 2TB one is now 730$  (for a digital Series X).
Even the SSD they sell went up, the headset (wireless is going to be 120$), the controllers (65$),.... and games going up to 80$ now as well.

This reeks of Nintendo tbh... its like once Nintendo did their thing, everyone is just going to go "okay, we ll follow".

--- Edit 2:   .... you can buy a PS5pro (with 2tb) cheaper than that Black 2tb Series X.... that's messed up.

It's really not surprising you would try to pin this all on Nintendo to excuse everyone else. I wonder why? Maybe it's time to accept this is just where we are in the world today.

With this announcement I would consider 40m dead and buried

A bad day for gaming as a whole.

Amazon US is hilarious right now. People made a run on the Series X trying to beat the increase. But now its listed at $577 ($23 Discount) and now people are making a run on the PS5 Pro. I think folks were waiting on GTA 6... now folks are like screw it!

Bite my shiny metal cockpit!

At some point earlier in this thread I said it would easily hit 40m, but 50m is out of reach.

But now, god sales are terrible and they just increased the price. oof it's gonna be tough. I mean you would think just doing another 7+ million would be easy, just 1 year on even a very poorly selling system, but it's selling well under 100k a week and sales are gonna drop with the price increase. No way it hits 40m. How much did it sell last year? Only a few million?

This should be the last Xbox system. Microsoft just needs to focus on their strategy of turning Game Pass into a play anywhere subscription and drop all these hardware costs for their terrible selling console division.

Alright with this big price increase the chances of it reaching 40m is likely over unless it's notably undertracked here or somehow lasts till late 2028. This thread is only a year old and it's wild how much worse things have gotten for Xbox hardware since it's started. Go back just a couple years and even the most pessimistic projections would be extremely optimistic now. It's just been getting worse and worse and worse for Xbox since the end of 2022.

In total I spent around $2,000 over the course of 2 years to upgrade. I upgraded the MOBO, CPU, RAM, and SSD first for about $1,000, then got the GPU for ~$700 about a year later. I kept my old case, monitors, keyboard, and mouse.

Out of curiosity what are your specs?

its been a dead console this price increase is just to shut down the last remaining people still hoping for a miracle.
