Israeli army raids occupied West Bank town

Israeli forces have stormed the town of Beitunia, west of Ramallah, Wafa reports. Citing security sources, it said the raid led to clashes between Palestinian residents and Israeli soldiers who fired live ammunition and tear gas at the crowd.

More Israeli army arrests, assaults in West Bank

Israeli forces have carried out a wave of violent incursions and arrests across the occupied West Bank, Wafa reports. The incidents include:

  • beating two men near Nablus, leading to their hospitalisation;
  • arresting two people and assaulting others in Masafer Yatta, including an 85-year-old man who was hospitalised;
  • beating another man in Jenin city; and
  • apprehending three people after raiding their homes near Ramallah.

Settler violence in West Bank up 30 percent this year: Report

There have been 414 “nationalist crimes” committed by Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank so far this year, up from 318 during the same period last year, reports Israeli Army Radio.

The crimes include arson, stone-throwing, vandalism, assaults, and other forms of “violent confrontations”, according to “security establishment data” cited by Army Radio.

A senior Israeli military officer said the settler crimes are not only growing, but also getting severe.

Israeli settlers shoot, injure 3 people in West Bank town: Report

A group of Israeli settlers has stormed into the Palestinian town of Hizma, near Jerusalem, and fired shots at residents on the main street, reports Wafa. The attack wounded three people, including a boy, according to witnesses cited by the agency.

The witnesses said the settlers, who also set fire to a resident’s property, were protected by Israeli forces.

Several children killed as Gaza civilians continue to bear brunt of Israeli attacks

Heavy bombardment continues across the Gaza Strip, as we continue to get reports of a series of deadly incidents since dawn today. Two children were killed following an Israeli air strike on a residential house in the Zeitoun neighbourhood, at the eastern end of Gaza City.

Further south, the city of Khan Younis has witnessed a series of deadly attacks in the past few hours. The Israeli military struck a makeshift tent in the coastal area of al-Mawasi, west of Khan Younis, killing at least five Palestinians, including a woman and two children.

Witnesses report that booby-trapped explosives have been used to blow up entire residential neighbourhoods, as the Israeli military says it is concentrating operations in Khan Younis to defeat Hamas battalions there.

However, civilians continue to bear the brunt of these ongoing ground operations. In Deir el-Balah, a series of explosions have been heard. Residents report a wave of panic, especially in the eastern areas, forcing some families to flee in search of safety.

Four aid seekers killed in Rafah

Israeli forces have opened fire on people waiting for aid in northern Rafah, killing at least four of them, according to local emergency workers quoted by our colleagues on the ground.

Gaza health system ‘obliterated’ as staff ‘swamped’ with mass casualties: Red Cross

Hisham M’hanna, the Gaza spokesperson for the International Committee of the Red Cross, has provided a snapshot of the massive challenges faced by healthcare workers in the besieged territory as Israeli attacks continue unabated.

“Since the resumption of hostilities on March 18, we haven’t witnessed one week without a report on an incident that happened or impacted a healthcare facility, a hospital, an ambulance team, or a doctor and nurse, including those who are on duty,” he told Al Jazeera from Deir el-Balah in central Gaza.

M’hanna said medical staff are “constantly subjected” to the impact of the fighting and “swamped” by the high numbers of people killed and wounded.

“Our field hospital in Rafah, which has only a 60-bed capacity, has been receiving since last month a large influx of mass casualties,” he added. “The vast majority of them are injured with gunshot wounds. Many of them have reported that they were attempting to reach the aid distribution sites in Rafah.”

M’hanna said the situation “has not only been exhausting” the workers’ capacity but also the hospital itself. “For most of the days, the hospital is operating at nearly double its capacity, consuming its resources that are extremely limited and impacted by the restrictions on the entry of humanitarian aid,” he added, noting that the field hospital is the only fully functional facility in Rafah and overall one of the best equipped in Gaza.

“That gives you a stark example of how deteriorated and obliterated the healthcare system is in Gaza.”

‘Screams of children and women were nonstop’

Two children have been killed in an Israeli air attack on their home in Gaza City’s Zeitoun neighbourhood. “The house was completely destroyed,” said Abdel Rahman Azzam, 45, a member of the family. He said he first “heard a huge explosion at my relative’s house”.

“I rushed out in panic and saw the house destroyed and on fire. We evacuated more than 20 injured people, including two martyrs, two children from the family. The screams of children and women were nonstop,” Azzam said.

“They bombed the house with a missile without any prior warning. This is a horrific crime. We sleep without knowing if we will wake up.”

‘Children are going through rubbish for food’

Christy Black, an Australian nurse volunteering at a hospital in Gaza City for four weeks, has described the scenes of desperation she’s witnessed.

“We thought we knew what we were coming into, but nothing can prepare you for what you see on the ground,” Black told Al Jazeera. “We’re seeing children going through the rubbish trying to find something to eat … Children who might be nine or 10 years old that look like two-year-olds.”

She said people’s wounds are “not healing because of malnourishment” and there is a big uptick in respiratory illnesses because of the “massive amounts of bombs being dropped on Gaza City and the rest of Gaza”.

“It is so catastrophic here,” she said. “I don’t know of any kind of healthcare service in the world that would be able to deal with what we’re seeing.”

However, Black praised the health workers in Gaza who she said are working with all their energy day after day “to provide the best kind of healthcare they can. Our colleagues are just amazing.”

Babies struggling to survive without enough breast-milk, formula

Christy Black, an Australian nurse volunteering in Gaza City, says the hospital she’s based in is short of “every kind of medical supply”. That includes formula for pregnant women who require nasogastric feeding – leaving many without the nutrients needed to lactate – as well as baby formula, she said.

“Our most vulnerable are dying,” Black told Al Jazeera. “We’ve seen a couple of babies die over the last couple of days in Gaza City. It’s really desperate here.”

Gaza death toll rises

Gaza’s Ministry of Health says at least 88 bodies and 365 wounded people have arrived at hospitals over the past 24 hours.

Since Israel broke a truce agreed with Hamas on March 18, at least 6,175 Palestinians have been killed and more than 21,378 wounded.

The confirmed total death toll from Israeli attacks since the start of the war in October 2023 has now risen to at least 56,500 with 133,419 people wounded.

Israeli soldier killed in northern Gaza, military says

The Israeli military has named the soldier as 20-year-old Sergeant Yisrael Natan Rosenfeld. He was a member of the 601st Combat Engineering Battalion. His death brings the total number of Israeli soldiers killed in combat since the Gaza war broke out to 880, according to Israeli figures.

At least 580 aid seekers killed by Israel

The number of aid seekers killed by Israeli forces near aid distribution points in Gaza now stands at 580, the Government Media Office says. At least 4,216 Palestinians have also been wounded while 39 are missing, it said.

Surge in Israeli attacks across Gaza amid ongoing displacement, hunger

There is a surge in aerial attacks with about 50 aerial attacks across Gaza today, with a particular focus on the eastern part of Gaza City. Among the targets were residential buildings, tents, people walking in the street, people gathering around water tanks, or people trying to find food in some neighbourhoods.

An average Gazan here has been displaced or pushed into displacement 10 times so far, without access to food or water supplies, without any of the basic necessities to help them survive these difficult conditions.

Meanwhile, there is a systematic campaign of home demolitions in the northern part of the Gaza Strip, and this time it is concentrated in Jabalia.

Gaza City hospital overwhelmed with casualties amid escalating Israeli attacks

It has been a very bloody day in Gaza City as the Israeli army continues to attack civilian areas, including the Zeitoun neighbourhood, Sabra neighbourhood and al-Zawiya market.

I am at the reception area of the al-Ahli Hospital, where wounded people are arriving constantly. Many are lying on the ground because there are not enough beds or medical supplies to treat them. There are too many wounded civilians here, including children. This facility is struggling to cope due to severe shortages.

The Israeli military has dropped leaflets in eastern Gaza City, ordering civilians to move south. These leaflets are often followed by intense and repeated attacks, resulting in the large number of casualties we are witnessing now.

Everyone I have spoken to here confirms they are civilians, and the vast majority of those brought to al-Ahli Hospital today are children. The situation is truly catastrophic.

‘This is not humanitarian aid. It is slaughter.’

“People in Gaza are facing an unbearable dilemma: risk your family starving or risk your life to maybe get food at an Israeli-US distribution site,” said Doctors Without Borders (MSF) on X.

“This is not humanitarian aid. It is slaughter,” the group also said, apparently referring to frequent killings reported near aid distribution points of the US- and Israel-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation.

Hamas accuses Israeli PM of thwarting truce talks

Senior Hamas official Mahmoud Mardawi says Netanyahu is proposing “impossible conditions” aimed at thwarting the possibility of reaching a ceasefire and captive-prisoner swap.

Netanyahu is refusing to commit to components of the agreement he already approved in the past, Mardawi said on his Telegram channel.

The prime minister insists on releasing only 10 captives instead of freeing all in one phase, he added.

“Netanyahu is lying when he claims he is not involved in choosing the names of the hostages [to be released in the deal],” Mardawi wrote. “He does not want a deal.”

Netanyahu remains silent on potential Gaza ceasefire

There’s been nothing official from the Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, regarding the push for a ceasefire. Last week, he had said mediators were constantly talking to negotiators behind the scenes to try and secure a 60-day pause in the fighting.

This is a proposal that was put forward by the US back in March in an effort to extend phase one of the ceasefire deal that Israel had violated when it resumed its attacks on the Gaza Strip.

Now, Netanyahu is under a lot of pressure as Trump has been quite outspoken for some time that he wants to see a ceasefire in Gaza. And prior to Israel’s attacks on Iran just about two weeks ago, there was a lot of pressure from European allies because of the Israeli military’s conduct in the Gaza Strip.

Israeli cabinet to discuss partial deal for Gaza amid fears it could become permanent

Israel’s centre-right news outlet Israel Hayom is reporting that the cabinet will hold a special session tonight on the future of military operations in Gaza.

The report said security leaders, coalition bloc leaders, and Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer are expected to discuss a partial deal and a temporary ceasefire.

Chief of Staff General Eyal Zamir is scheduled to report on the progress of combat operations, potentially fuelling debate over the extent of Israeli control in Gaza versus Hamas. While the army is expected to claim that it has nearly completed the major ground offensive in Gaza, some government officials are set to reject this, maintaining that Hamas has not yet been defeated and that Israel’s war goals have not been achieved.

The report added that the “Witkoff Plan” – named after US envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff – is seen as the most likely path forward. It would allow for a temporary ceasefire and a captive-prisoner exchange, but would not preclude a resumption of fighting later. Zamir is said to support this approach, while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu maintains his declared goals of wanting to destroy Hamas.

Still, some cabinet ministers fear that if Washington applies enough pressure, a temporary Gaza deal could lead to a “permanent situation.”

Egypt says working on 60-day Gaza ceasefire

Egypt’s foreign minister said his country is working on a new Gaza deal that includes a 60-day ceasefire in exchange for the release of some Israeli captives and the rapid entry of humanitarian aid into the besieged enclave.

“We’re working toward a durable solution and a permanent ceasefire,” Badr Abdelatty said in a televised interview with the local OnTV television. He said the proposal is a joint effort by Egypt, Qatar and the US and represents “a first step” towards a sustainable ceasefire.

“What’s on the table now is a 60-day truce in exchange for the release of a number of Israeli hostages and the swift delivery of aid to Gaza, including medical supplies,” he said, adding that this move “would create momentum to move towards a lasting ceasefire, eventually leading to the implementation of the January 19 agreement”.

Israel launches new air raids on Gaza City

Our colleagues on the ground are reporting that Israeli jets have launched air strikes on Gaza City. Israeli attacks across Gaza today have killed at least 47 people, including several aid seekers and children, according to medical sources.

Israeli forces continue to pound schools turned into shelters

Israeli strikes have hit at least three schools being used as shelters in Gaza in recent hours.

One attack struck a school in Gaza City’s Zeitoun neighborhood, while another strike, also in Zeitoun, killed three people and wounded several. A third attack targeted a school in Jabalia, leaving four dead and others injured.

International humanitarian law forbids attacks on civilian infrastructure, including schools, but throughout its deadly assault on Gaza, Israel has repeatedly bombed schools, most of which are now being used as shelters for people who have been forcibly displaced.

Iran has officially released details of three advanced ballistic missiles that reportedly broke through Israel’s heavily fortified air defenses and delivered a crushing blow to key military targets. This shocking revelation has not only stunned Tel Aviv but sent ripples across global intelligence communities.

Iranian officials are calling this a clear message: Israeli deterrence is no longer untouchable. With reports emerging of high-precision strikes, depleted Israeli interceptors, and gaps in Tel Aviv’s defense shield, questions are now being raised about just how vulnerable the so-called invincible Israeli system really is.

My internet was out today, just got restored. I'm glad to see a ceasefire announced, hoping it's not just another Trump lie or deception.

Of course the real question is whether Netanyahu will actually accept it and not treat it like the ceasefire in Lebanon. I doubt Iran will stand for continued assassinations and more Mossad shenanigans.

Anyway I'll comb through the news later.

I'm late to the party but I fully believe the "Ceasefire" is a stall tactic to allow for Israel to restock their interceptor missiles. Despite the nonsense the mainstream media was reporting. Iran was piercing the vaunted Iron Dome with increasing frequency and they barely broked out their serious hardware. All the interceptors in the world won't stop Iran's hypersonic missiles.

The latest speculations are that Iran unveiled new maneuverable missiles that can avoid being intercepted, 'dance' missiles. Hence Netanyahu begging the US to come in and help.

And indeed Israel was also running out of interceptors (but not quite out yet).

Netanyahu still wanted to go on with US support, yet Trump got cold feet when Iran targeted US bases in Qatar and Iraq as retaliation. The first strikes were telegraphed to the US and Qatar and the base was evacuated, but then Trump couldn't go on with his illegal strike and called a ceasefire, then told Netanyahu to cut it out.

So what have Netanyahu and Trump achieved

- IAEA inspectors are now banned from Iran https://www.politico.eu/article/iran-ban-iaea-chief-rafael-grossi-surveillance-camera-nuclear-plant/
- Iran is threatening to leave NPT altogether, other countries may follow
- Iran is strengthening ties with China and Russia
- Israel lost its confidence / 'invulnerability' and appears to have received a lot more damage than reported (fully censored, media gag order)

However Israel and the Western media spin it as a 'win', since Iran was weeks away from a nuclear bomb (since 1995 lol). Yet first of all Iran wasn't making a nuclear bomb (now people in the country demand they do pursue a nuclear weapon) according to IAEA and other intelligence agencies (redacted by Tulsi)

Tulsi Gabbard now says Iran could produce nuclear weapon 'within weeks' https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c056zqn6vvyo

And after all this, the strikes failed to set back Iran for more than a couple months at best while the enriched Uranium stockpile has gone missing, evacuated before the strikes.

And in response Israel has stepped up the extermination campaign in Gaza again...
