No damage at Fordow nuclear site, says UN watchdog
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) says there is no damage at Fordow, one of Iran’s main uranium enrichment facilities, despite reports of Israeli attacks.
“Based on info available to the IAEA, no damage seen at site of Fordow Fuel Enrichment Plant nor at Khondab heavy water reactor under construction. No further damage at Natanz since yesterday,” IAEA chief Rafael Grossi said in a statement.
Iran’s state TV says missiles have been launched against Israel
Iran’s state TV says that new missile strikes have been launched at Israel.
Iran’s official news agency says Iranian forces are carrying out a hybrid attack with drones accompanying the missiles targeting Israeli cities.
Explosions in the sky over Amman
Our correspondent in Amman says that there have been explosions in the sky over Jordan’s capital. This has occurred during previous Iranian retaliatory attacks on Israel.
Missiles seen over Jerusalem, Haifa
Air raid sirens are currently sounding across Israel.
Israelis are urgently taking shelter in protected spaces as Iran launches retaliatory attacks on Israel. “Millions of Israelis are running to shelter in northern Israel due to projectile fire from Iran,” the Israeli military said in a post on X.
The Israeli military says it is attacking Tehran
The Israeli military says it is attacking military targets in Iran’s capital, Tehran.
Missiles fall in Haifa: Report
Israel’s Channel 13 cites “initial reports” that Iranian missiles have hit the northern coastal city of Haifa and neighbouring town of Tamra.
‘Just the beginning’ of Iranian retaliation
The attack on Haifa was expected – because that’s where the [Israeli] gas fields are located.
It seems that this is an initial retaliation to the Israeli attack on the gas field close to Bushehr and the oil refinery in Abadan. This is the tit-for-tat here between Israel and Iran.
But this is just the beginning for today because the Iranians are promising a wider retaliation. We’ll probably see more waves towards Haifa, towards Tel Aviv, towards Jerusalem.
No signs of de-escalation :(
A bit of trivia. The historical second Kingdom of Israel, the second temple of Jerusalem (and only archaeologically verified of the two temples), and the Kingdom of Judah were founded by the Iranian Achaemenid Empire. The leader who ended the Babylonian captivity and built the Kingdom is the Iranian Cyrus the Great, who is canonized in the Bible as the second great Messiah (David being the first). The Palestinian people are genetically descended from the original Jewish population of Israel - they mostly converted to Islam during the Islamic expansion while the majority of the modern Jewish people are those of the diaspora who did not convert, the Palestinian Jewish people are the native population who maintained their Jewish identity.
So, Netanyahu’s Likud regime are aiming to genocide the descendants of the biblical Jews and the civilization which created historical second Kingdom of Israel and the Kingdom of Judah.
Israel is a modern example of why ethnostates are based on bullshit and are genuinely horrible. Ironically, the ancestors of most of the Israelis were the primary victims of the most infamously terrible (and antisemitic) ethnostate history ever recorded. Some role-model Netanyahu and the Likud followers have there…

Today's death toll went up again in Gaza
Israel kills at least 79 people in Gaza, many at US-backed aid site: Medics
Israeli fire and air strikes have killed at least 79 Palestinians across the Gaza Strip, a number of them near an aid distribution site operated by the United States and Israeli-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), according to local health authorities, the latest deaths of people desperately seeking food for their hungry families.
Medics at al-Awda and Al-Aqsa hospitals in central Gaza, where most of the casualties were moved to, said at least 15 people were killed on Saturday as they tried to approach the GHF aid distribution site near the so-called Netzarim Corridor.
The rest were killed in separate attacks across the besieged and bombarded enclave, they added. Since the GHF started operations last month, at least 274 people have been killed and more than 2,000 wounded near aid distribution sites, according to a statement by the Gaza Ministry of Health.
Judge rules Mahmoud Khalil can remain in custody amid green card dispute
A United States federal judge has allowed the administration of President Donald Trump to keep student protester Mahmoud Khalil in custody based on allegations of immigration fraud. On Friday, Judge Michael Farbiarz of Newark, New Jersey, ruled that Khalil’s legal team had not adequately shown why his detention on the charge would be unlawful.
It was a major setback for Khalil, who had been a negotiator for the student protesters at Columbia University demonstrating against Israel’s war on Gaza. He was the first high-profile protester to be arrested under Trump’s campaign to expel foreign students who participated in pro-Palestinian advocacy.
Just this week, Farbiarz appeared poised to order Khalil’s release, on the basis that his detention under the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1952 was unconstitutional.
That law stipulates that the secretary of state – in this case, Marco Rubio – has the power to remove foreign nationals who have “potentially serious adverse foreign policy consequences for the United States”. But Farbiarz ruled that Rubio’s use of the law violated Khalil’s freedom of speech.
Still, the Trump administration filed additional court papers saying it had another reason for wanting to deport Khalil. It alleged that Khalil, a permanent US resident, had omitted information from his green-card application that would have otherwise disqualified him from gaining residency.
The Trump administration has long accused Khalil of supporting terrorism through his protest-related activities, something the former graduate student has vehemently denied.
In the case of his green-card application, it argues that Khalil failed to disclose his work with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), a humanitarian organisation. Politicians in Israel and the US have accused UNRWA of ties to the armed group Hamas, an allegation reportedly made without evidence.
Khalil, however, has denied he was ever an “officer” in UNRWA, as alleged. Instead, his legal team points out that he completed a United Nations internship through Columbia University.
The Trump administration also argues that Khalil did not accurately identify the length of his employment with the Syria Office of the British Embassy in Beirut. Khalil and his legal team, meanwhile, say he accurately identified his departure date from the job as December 2022.
Ultimately, Farbiarz allowed the Trump administration to continue its detention of Khalil. He advised Khalil’s lawyers to seek release on bail from the immigration court where his deportation trial is being held in Louisiana.
Farbiarz had been weighing a separate habeas corpus petition from the Khalil team that called into question the constitutionality of his continued detention.
Marc Van Der Hout, a lawyer for Khalil, told the Reuters news agency that immigration fraud charges are exceedingly rare, and the Trump administration’s use of such charges was simply a political manoeuvre to keep Khalil in lock-up.
“Detaining someone on a charge like this is highly unusual and frankly outrageous,” said Van Der Hout. “There continues to be no constitutional basis for his detention.”
Another lawyer representing Khalil, Amy Greer, described the new allegations against his green-card application as part of the government’s “cruel, transparent delay tactics”. She noted that Khalil, a new father whose child was born in April, would miss his first Father’s Day, which falls this Sunday in the US.
“Instead of celebrating together, he is languishing in ICE [Immigration and Customs Enforcement] detention as punishment for his advocacy on behalf of his fellow Palestinians,” Greer said in a statement.
“It is unjust, it is shocking, and it is disgraceful.”

Iran claims Israeli military targets were hit in latest wave retaliatory strikes
Iran’s Press TV claims that Iranian missiles and drones have hit military targets in Israel.
At this stage, we cannot confirm this, but we will provide you with more information as soon as we receive it.

IRGC says it launched attack in response to renewed Israeli strikes
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) says its Aerospace Force fired a large volley of missiles and drones at Israel, part of the military operation True Promise-3, in retaliation to Israeli attacks.
Israel carrying out air raids in Yemen: Reports
Israel is also conducting air strikes on Yemen at the same time as it trades fire with Iran, Israeli media is reporting.
Israeli Army Radio is reporting that the objective of the mission is to assassinate a Houthi militia official. It reports that the results of the mission are being assessed.
The Israeli Broadcasting Authority also reported that Israel’s air force was attacking targets in Yemen, and cited an unnamed official as saying that if the operation succeeds, it will be of utmost importance.

Video posted to X, verified by Al Jazeera, shows initial signs of Israeli attacks on Tehran. As we reported earlier, Israel said moments ago that it had launched a new round of attacks on Iran.
Israelis ‘have no trust’ in government forecast of conflict with Iran
Israeli political commentator Ori Goldberg says even as most Israelis support attacks against Iran, there is a general sense in Israel that “nobody is looking out for” the population.
Israelis are “extremely ambivalent” about what has been happening, Goldberg told Al Jazeera by phone from Israel shortly after the latest Iranian missiles were fired at the country.
“There is mass support, a very broad consensus, that … Israel should go after Iran because Iran wants to destroy Israel – that’s the official narrative,” he explained.
But on the other hand, “Israelis know that [Israeli attacks on Iran are] not capable of destroying the Iranian nuclear programme”, Goldberg said.
“They realise that this isn’t going to instigate regime change. There are already jokes being told about the prime minister and various other Israeli politicians using the strike for their own good.”
Ultimately, he said, “Israelis are preparing to care for themselves as this war continues. They have no trust in the official forecast and evaluation that the government has delivered to Israeli citizens.”
Iran seeking to restore deterrence
Abas Aslani, a senior research fellow at the Center for Middle East Strategic Studies, says Iran is not only trying to respond to Israel’s military bombardment of the country, but also to establish deterrence.
“Iran believes that it … needs to establish a kind of deterrence against Israel, in order to make it painful [for Israel] … so they can stop further attacks from their side,” Aslani told Al Jazeera from Tehran.
He said the Iranian attacks will likely happen in different stages and could continue for some time. The country is also trying to strengthen its air defence system to be able to fend off Israeli attacks, Aslani added.
Houthi official says Israel trying to create ‘fake victory’
Hazem al-Assad, a member of the Yemeni group’s political bureau, says that as Israel is suffering blows from Iran, it is “promoting lies to create a fake victory to cover its defeats”.
The comment comes amid reports that the Israeli military carried out a major assassination in Yemen.

Five people have been injured near Haifa, in northern Israel, as a result of Iranian missile fire, Israeli medics say.
Iran says Israel targeted oil depot targeted near Tehran
Iran says that the Shahran oil depot northwest of Tehran was targeted in an Israeli attack, but that the situation is under control.
Earlier, we reported that Israel had attacked a gas field close to Bushehr and the oil refinery in Abadan.
Shahran oil depot is on fire
Footage has emerged from the Shahran oil depot northwest of Tehran, which was struck by Israeli forces. In dramatic scenes, large dark plumes of smoke can be seen billowing into the sky as fires rage.
The fires appear to be visible across large swathes of Iran’s capital, with additional footage emerging from various locations across the city.

Efforts to bring fire at Shahran oil facility under control ongoing
Iran’s state media says that efforts are continuing to bring the fire at Tehran’s oil refinery under control. Iran’s Tasnim News agency says that immediately after Israel’s attack, operational and rescue forces arrived at the scene and are still working to extinguish the fire.

Sirens sound in Eilat: Report
Israeli Army Radio is reporting that alarms have been activated following fears of “hostile aircraft intrusion” in Eilat, a city that sits on the narrow southern tip of Israel, sandwiched between Jordan and Egypt.
The Israeli military says its air force intercepted the drone in the southern Israeli city without providing details about its source.
Israel targeted Iranian defence ministry headquarters in Tehran: Report
Iran’s Tasnim news agency is reporting that one of the administrative buildings at the ministry’s headquarters was slightly damaged in the Israeli attack. Another Israeli attack in the same area of Tehran also hit a separate Ministry of Defence building, the report said.
IRGC says it targeted energy supply centres in Israel
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps says its missiles and drones struck fighter jet fuel production facilities and energy supply centers in Israel. “The offensive operations of the IRGC armed forces will continue more fiercely and widely if the evils and aggressions continue,” it said in a statement.
Israel will escalate attacks on Palestinians amid Iran conflict: Rights group
Israeli human rights group B’Tselem has slammed the country’s “extremist and unchecked government” as continuing its crimes against Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank amid the new conflict it began with Iran.
“We warn that Israel is likely to exploit the diversion of global attention to escalate its attacks on Palestinians,” B’Tselem wrote in a statement shared on social media.
“While millions in Israel and Iran face missile attacks, most Palestinians within Israel, the West Bank, and Jerusalem are defenseless, with their communities lacking shelters.”
It also noted that Israel’s deadly attacks on Gaza are continuing, while the military has imposed closures on Palestinians in the occupied West Bank.
“Israel will exploit the current situation to intensify harm to Palestinians in Gaza, the West Bank, and everywhere under its control,” the group said.
Attacking Iran allows Israel to deflect attention away from Gaza
Israel has attacked energy infrastructure: the gas production field, the port in Bandar Abbas … Israel, it seems, has changed the focus of its attacks from degrading Iran’s nuclear capabilities to attacking infrastructure.
You heard Netanyahu earlier calling effectively for regime change, saying he was encouraging Iranians to rise up against the regime.
Israel says the focus of its military activities is now on Iran and not on Gaza. But it also conveniently allows … the focus of attention on what’s happening in Israel to move from Gaza to Iran. Until Israel hit those targets in Iran, it was coming under increasing international scrutiny over the conduct of the war in Gaza.
A lot more vocal criticism was coming from European leaders, coming from Canada, and sanctions were imposed on senior Israeli politicians. This allows Israel to move the focus away from Gaza.
Iranian security official: We are ready for a prolonged war, will increase attacks
A senior Iranian security official has told Al Jazeera that Tehran is readying itself for a prolonged confrontation, and will step up its attacks. The official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that Iran did not start the war, but would determine its end.
The conflict is Netanyahu’s war, the official said, and its outcome would be the destruction of the Israeli regime.
The official said that Iran was defending its people — and that US President Donald Trump needed to decide whether to waste American taxpayers’ money on Netanyahu’s ambitions.

Explosions in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem: Reports
Several explosions have been heard in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem after the Israeli military announced a new round of attacks by Iran. Reuters reported a series of explosions in both cities, citing witnesses.
“Heavy bombardment of Tel Aviv right now, with multiple massive explotions [sic] heard,” Israeli reporter Haggai Matar said in a social media post.
Extent of damage from latest Iranian missile barrage unclear
The Israelis are reporting that sirens have gone off in Jerusalem, as well as Haifa earlier, and in Tel Aviv, and that people have been ordered to go to their shelters. We don’t know yet what the scale of damage of these missiles that are just coming in is.
We know from the first of this evening’s barrage that three people were killed in northern Israel. There have been some other injuries, as well.
Again, ordinarily Israel’s missile defence system – the Iron Dome – has generally been effective in intercepting and destroying most of the missiles that are coming from Iran, but not all of them.
It’s also worth pointing out that there is military censorship of the press in Israel, as there is in almost any country when it’s in a state of war. And that means that journalists based in Israel are restricted from reporting whether there have been any hits on strategic locations.
So, we only hear about civilian places that have been hit, and military bases – strategic locations are not reported on. So we don’t know what’s happened there.
Starmer says UK moving military assets to Middle East
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has said the United Kingdom is moving more military assets, including fighter jets, to the Middle East to provide “contingency support in the region”.
Crews began deployment preparations on Friday morning, when it was clear the situation in the region was deteriorating, a spokesperson for the prime minister said. Further refuelling aircraft from UK bases have been deployed, and additional fighter jets will be sent, the spokesperson added.
Separately, Starmer discussed the escalating Israel-Iran conflict in a call with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
Starmer’s office said in a statement that the two leaders had discussed the “gravely concerning situation in the Middle East” and agreed on the need to de-escalate.
De-escalate by joining the fight? Wtf... UK US Israel, everything they say, the opposite is true.
Iran could shut Strait of Hormuz if Israel ramps up attacks on energy
Sina Toossi, a senior fellow at the Center for International Policy, a US-based think tank, says that if Israel carries out even more “dramatic” attacks on Iranian oil and energy infrastructure, Iran could shut the critical Strait of Hormuz.
“That is their ultimate level of escalation,” Toossi told Al Jazeera, of the potential move by Iran.
Iranian news agency IRINN reported on Saturday that the country was considering shutting the Strait, which is the only marine entryway into the Persian Gulf.
According to the US Energy Information Administration, about 20 percent of global oil consumption flows through the Strait of Hormuz.
“We’re not there yet, but today, Israel struck a gas field in southern Iran. And Iran in the attacks on Haifa has reportedly struck some energy facilities there,” Toossi noted.
“So there has been a tit-for-tat on energy facilities today, and if this escalates, that’s going to potentially threaten all the energy coming out of the Persian Gulf.”
Iran cancels talks, but Trump says US negotiators still ready
The US president seems to be operating on the assumption that there still can be these indirect talks. Now, obviously, Sunday has already arrived in some parts of the world, and what we know is that it doesn’t appear that there’s any sign of those talks.
Still, the Middle East envoy, Steve Witkoff, is at the ready – ready to talk from a US standpoint.
The US president, for his part, was very active on social media on Friday, but as of Saturday, he didn’t reappear for almost 24 hours, after we saw the retaliatory attacks on Israel.
Then he posted on Truth Social that he had spoken with Vladimir Putin, the Russian president. They had talked extensively about the war, and the US president said he found the situation very alarming. We know that Putin, for his part, offered to mediate, and the US President responded by saying that Putin’s war should end, of course, referring to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, one that the US president promised to end on day one [of his presidency].
But, of course, that has not happened.
Iran says it will limit cooperation with IAEA over its nuclear sites
A senior Iranian official says his country will “no longer cooperate” with the UN’s nuclear watchdog, while criticising it for its silence over Israeli strikes on Iranian nuclear sites.
“It makes no sense that these peaceful sites come under attack and that the agency remains silent,” Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said, referring to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
“Iran will no longer cooperate with the agency… as it once did,” he said, adding that his government would not inform the IAEA of the “special measures” it intended to take to protect its nuclear materials and equipment.
