Houthis claim attacks on US warships

A spokesman for the Houthis says its fighters “engaged with enemy warships”, led by the US aircraft carrier Harry Truman in the Red Sea three times in the past 24 hours.

In a statement on Telegram, the spokesman said the Houthis “will not back down from supporting the oppressed Palestinian people until the aggression against Gaza stops and the siege is lifted”.

Israeli military says it intercepted missile launched from Yemen

The Israeli army says a missile launched from Yemen was intercepted by the air force “prior to crossing into Israeli territory” following sirens sounding off in several areas.

The Houthis, who have also targeted shipping vessels in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden since Israel’s war on Gaza began – say they’re acting in solidarity with the besieged Palestinian people.

Earlier, we reported a spokesman for the Houthis in Yemen claimed their fighters “engaged with enemy warships”, led by the US aircraft carrier Harry Truman in the Red Sea, three times in the past 24 hours.

Israel’s ex-PM Bennett calls for strike on Iran after Houthi missile launch

Naftali Bennett has advocated for a strike on Iran shortly after the Israeli military announced it had intercepted a missile fired from Yemen. During the war on Gaza, Yemen’s Houthis have repeatedly fired missiles at Israel in what they say is in solidarity with the embattled people of Palestine.

“When the Houthis, an Iranian terror arm, fire on Israel, Israel must respond in Tehran,” said Bennett. “Iran has much more to lose, the Houthis have much less.”

Translation: When the Houthis, an Iranian terror arm, fire on Israel, Israel must respond in Tehran. Iran is the one funding, arming, training, and directing the Houthis. Iran has much more to lose, the Houthis have much less. Therefore, Israel must impose a price on Iran. Only then will Iran understand: do not fire on the Jewish state.

Would be fair then for Hamas or Iran to bomb Washington DC...

Israel desperately wants to drag the US into a war with Iran, is Trump dumb enough to go along with it...

Iran says no direct negotiations with US on nuclear plans

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has rejected direct negotiations with the US in response to a letter from President Donald Trump over its rapidly advancing nuclear programme.

“Although the possibility of direct negotiations between the two sides has been rejected in this response, it has been emphasised that the path for indirect negotiations remains open,” Pezeshkian said.

Trump’s overture comes as Israel and the US warn they’ll never let Iran acquire a nuclear weapon, leading to fears of a military confrontation as Tehran enriches uranium at near weapons-grade levels.

Trump’s first term in office was marked by troubled relations with Tehran. In 2018, he unilaterally withdrew the US from Iran’s nuclear deal with world powers. He also ordered an attack that killed Iran’s top general in a drone strike in January 2020 in Iraq’s capital.

Trump says ‘there will be bombing’ if Iran doesn’t make nuclear deal

The US president has warned Iran to make a deal on its nuclear programme or risk the consequences.

In an interview with NBC News, Trump said: “If they don’t make a deal, there will be bombing.”

He added: “But – there’s a chance that if they don’t make a deal, that I will do secondary tariffs on them like I did four years ago.” Trump said he would consider these “secondary” tariffs “until such time as a deal is signed”.

‘Rough weeks’ of US-Iran tensions

Trumpused very incendiary language in this interview [with NBC News], saying that Iran would see bombing the likes of which they have never seen before if that country’s leadership doesn’t agree to curbing its nuclear weapons development.

As a reminder, it was Trump himself during his first term that unilaterally withdrew the United States from the Iran nuclear deal.

It’s been a rough couple of weeks between Iran and the US as Trump has said that any attacks from the Houthis, which are an Iranian-backed [group] in Yemen, would count as a shot fired by Iran.

That is one reason why he’s justified a continuing bombardment campaign by the US military against the Houthis.

Protesters in Tel Aviv say government responsible for captives’ fate

As we’ve reported, thousands of Israelis continued protests across Israel, calling for the government to secure the release of all captives in return for a complete end to the war.

“At this very moment, the hostages are being bombed in accordance with Netanyahu’s order,” said Naama Weinberg, whose cousin was killed in captivity in Gaza, during a speech at a rally.

“War will not bring our hostages home. It will kill them. And they will be lost to us forever.”

Demonstrators rally outside captive negotiator’s home in West Jerusalem

Families of Israeli captives and activists are protesting in front of the home of Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer, chief negotiator for the return of abductees from Gaza.

About 100 people demanded Dermer fulfil his mission to bring the captives home.

A statement from the families said: “We stand here to remind Minister Dermer of his highest message – to reach a complete agreement to save 59 souls. Save them from the danger of death and the real and immediate danger of disappearance.”

Netanyahu to visit Hungary despite international arrest warrant

The Israeli prime minister will fly to Hungary on Wednesday for a four-day trip. During the visit, Netanyahu will meet Hungary’s President Viktor Orban, a right-wing populist who has been a staunch backer of Israel, as well as other top officials.

Netanyahu is currently wanted by the International Criminal Court (ICC) on charges of war crimes. But Orban has said Hungary will disregard the warrant if Israel’s leader visits.

One day after the ICC decision in November, Netanyahu thanked Orban for his show of “moral clarity” in extending the invitation.

‘People of Gaza have been let down by the Western world’

Mansour Shouman, a Palestinian journalist from Gaza, says Israel’s punishing wars on Gaza and the occupied West Bank have exposed the hypocrisy of the West.

While its ally Israel has committed genocide for nearly 18 months, the West has done nothing to halt the bloodshed of Palestinian civilians who continue to persevere through the horrors inflicted upon them, he said.

“The people of Gaza have been let down by the Western world. Right now, Gaza has shown the true face of those lecturing us for decades about human rights and democracy,” Shouman told Al Jazeera.

“Palestinians remain strong in their faith, they do have a strong culture. They rely heavily on family, on elders. The women of Palestine are the backbone of society. Despite everything thrown at these people, they remain firm and strong because of their faith and social norms.”

PM Netanyahu claims ‘military pressure working’ against Hamas

The Israeli prime minister has delivered remarks about the status of Israel’s war on Gaza and ceasefire conditions at a government meeting, according to Israeli media reports.

Israel’s cabinet has decided to further ramp up military pressure on Hamas whose positions are “suddenly [showing] cracks”, Benjamin Netanyahu said.

“Military pressure is working. It works because … on the one hand it crushes Hamas’s military and governmental capabilities, and on the other hand it creates the conditions for the release of our hostages,” he said in comments carried by Israel’s Arutz Sheva media.

“We are committed to returning the hostages and we are working to return the hostages. To this day, the combination of military pressure and political pressure is the only thing that has returned the hostages.”

Netanyahu says Hamas must disarm, leave Gaza for final truce deal

Israel’s leader has insisted Hamas must “lay down its weapons”, exile its leaders, and turn over security in Gaza to Israel in order to reach the “final stage” of the ceasefire deal.

Israel is planning to proceed with US President Donald Trump’s proposal to empty Gaza of Palestinians, he added, describing it as “voluntary immigration”. “That is the plan. We do not hide it, we are ready to discuss it at any time,” said Netanyahu in comments carried by Arutz Sheva.

Netanyahu told a cabinet meeting: “Hamas must lay down its arms… Its leaders will be allowed to leave.”

He rejected claims Israel isn’t engaged in negotiations aimed at securing the release of captives held in Gaza.

Hamas has accepted a Qatari-Egyptian ceasefire proposal that senior official Khalil al-Hayya said includes delegating civil administration of the Strip to a group of independent technocrats. But the Palestinian group has refused to disarm, calling such a demand a “red line” while there is Israeli occupation of Palestine.

Why hide ethnic cleansing plans when the US president is the one promoting them... Fucked up.

Netanyahu demands ‘diametrically opposed’ to Gaza ceasefire

The counteroffer Israel is making is basically taking things back to square one and to the initial proposal by US envoy Steve Witkoff that wants to see 11 Israeli captives released.

There’s a wide gap between that and the offer that Hamas has already accepted, to release five Israeli captives.

We’ve heard in the past two hours from the Israeli prime minister answering his detractors – the families of Israeli captives – who say he’s not interested in freeing those captives.

According to Netanyahu, Israel’s only formula that would be acceptable for the day after the war would be for Hamas to surrender its weapons, to leave the Gaza Strip, and for Israel to completely control the Strip and forcibly expel its Palestinian population.

This is diametrically opposed to the entire formula of the ceasefire agreement in its initial three phases, whereby Israel must withdraw from Gaza.

This is sure to complicate efforts that are under way, where the mediators are trying their best to bring the parties back to the table.

Israel approves controversial road project near occupied East Jerusalem

Israel’s security cabinet has approved the settlement road project late on Saturday, according to the Israeli media.

The road will redirect and separate Israeli and Palestinian traffic in the occupied West Bank, and will further isolate Palestinians in the area.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defence Minister Israel Katz, and two settlement chiefs welcomed the decision on Sunday, Israeli reports said. The project includes an underground road in the occupied West Bank, allowing Israel to move forward with plans to expand settlements in E1, an area beyond the Green Line.

While the road would link Palestinian towns, it would also separate them from the rest of the West Bank and restrict Palestinian movement on key routes between Jerusalem and the Ma’ale Adumim settlement, which would remain accessible primarily to Israelis.

According to the report, the move could facilitate the formal annexation of Ma’ale Adumim, a large settlement east of Jerusalem, with significant political implications for the West Bank.

Welcoming the cabinet’s approval, Netanyahu said Sunday: “We continue to strengthen Israeli security and develop settlements.”

And still claiming there is no apartheid, the word literally means separation.

Physical Separation: Apartheid laws mandated separate residential areas, public facilities, transportation, education, and healthcare systems for different racial groups.

Hamas slams controversial road project near occupied East Jerusalem

Hamas’s statement on Telegram comes after Israel’s security cabinet approved the settlement road project late yesterday.

The group said the project will pave strategic roads aimed at strengthening the connection between settlements and isolating Palestinian towns surrounding the Ma’ale Adumim settlement.

It added: “The occupation’s continued settlement projects in occupied Jerusalem reveal its malicious intentions and plans to strengthen settlements and push for the displacement of Palestinians from the Holy City.”

Palestinians are regularly used by Israeli army as human shields: Report

https://www.haaretz.com/opinion/2025-03-30/ty-article-opinion/.premium/in-gaza-almost-every-idf-platoon-keeps-a-human-shield-a-sub-army-of-palestinian-slaves/00000195-e627-deaf-a397-f6674e390000

According to an article in the Haaretz newspaper by a senior officer in a non-reservist brigade, Palestinians are “regularly forced by soldiers to enter houses in Gaza to make sure there are no terrorists or explosives”.

“In Gaza, human shields are used by Israeli soldiers at least six times a day,” the officer said in the article.

The officer said that he served in Gaza for nine months, and first came across these procedures, called “mosquito protocol”, in December 2023. According to the officer, the protocol was used long before there was a shortage of dogs from the army’s canine unit, Oketz, which were used for this purpose.

The officer said: “This became the insane, unofficial excuse for this insane, unofficial procedure.”

The writer added that the army personnel referred to “human shields” as “shawishes”.

The officer stressed: “Today, almost every platoon keeps a ‘shawish’, and no infantry force enters a house before a ‘shawish’ clears it. This means there are four ‘shawishes’ in a company, twelve in a battalion, and at least 36 in a brigade. We operate a sub-army of slaves.”

France’s Macron calls on Netanyahu to end Gaza strikes

French President Emmanuel Macron says he also asked the Israeli prime minister to return to the ceasefire deal. “I emphasized that humanitarian aid must resume immediately,” Macron wrote in a lengthy social media post.

He also said he urged Israel to respect the ceasefire in Lebanon.

“Regarding Lebanon, after my discussions with the Lebanese President on Friday and this conversation with the Israeli Prime Minister, we have decided to work together,” Macron said.

“The monitoring mechanism must be strengthened to fully restore Lebanon’s sovereignty. This includes a complete withdrawal of Israel from Lebanese territory and support in order to restore the state’s monopoly on arms.”

PRCS releases names, photos of eight emergency responders killed

The eight ambulance team members were killed as they responded to an emergency call following Israeli attacks in Rafah in southern Gaza, the Palestine Red Crescent says.

The agency named those killed as:

  • Mustafa Khafaja
  • Ezzedine Sha’at
  • Saleh Moammar
  • Rifaat Radwan
  • Mohammad Behloul
  • Ashraf Abu Labda
  • Mohammad al-Hila
  • Raed al-Sharif

Palestine Red Crescent says deadly Israeli attack a war crime, demands probe

The PRCS says the killings of its paramedics “is a tragedy not only for us at the Palestine Red Crescent Society, but also for humanitarian work and humanity”.

It said the Israeli military targeted the health workers in what “can only be considered a war crime”.

“The world has thus [far] failed to take serious steps to prevent the occupation from continuing these flagrant violations of international law and conventions against health and humanitarian workers,” the agency said in a statement shared on social media, referring to Israel.

“The PRCS demands that the perpetrators of this war crime be held accountable, [and] that an immediate and urgent investigation be conducted to ensure justice for the victims of this massacre.”

It added that the fate of a PRCS paramedic who remains missing, Asaad Nasasra, must also be investigated.

Gaza Health Ministry condemns killing of medics as ‘heinous crime’

The statement comes after the Palestine Red Crescent Society said earlier that it recovered the bodies of 14 Gaza civil defence and health workers in total in Rafah. Five Palestinian Civil Defence personnel and one United Nations employee were among the 14 killed, PRCS said.

The health ministry said in its statement that the bodies of eight paramedics were recovered today after contact with them had been lost over the previous days.

It added: “Some of these bodies were bound and shot in the chest. They were buried in a deep hole to prevent their identification.”

The ministry called on “UN organisations and relevant international bodies to conduct an urgent investigation into these crimes and hold the occupation accountable for committing them.”

Red Cross federation expresses ‘outrage’ at killing of PRCS medics

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) says the attack that killed at least eight members of the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) is the single deadliest attack on Red Cross/Red Crescent workers anywhere in the world since 2017.

“These dedicated ambulance workers were responding to wounded people. They were humanitarians. They wore emblems that should have protected them; their ambulances were clearly marked. They should have returned to their families; they did not,” IFRC Secretary_General Jagan Chapagain said in a statement.

“Even in the most complex conflict zones, there are rules. These rules of International Humanitarian Law could not be clearer – civilians must be protected; humanitarians must be protected. Health services must be protected,” Chapagain said.

“Our network is in mourning, but this is not enough. Instead of another call on all parties to protect and respect humanitarians and civilians, I pose a question: ‘When will this stop?’ All parties must stop the killing, and all humanitarians must be protected.'”

Main events on March 30th

  • Medical sources tell Al Jazeera that at least 64 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli raids across the Gaza Strip since dawn on Sunday, the first day of the Eid al-Fitr holiday.
  • The Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) says it recovered the bodies of 14 medical workers who were attacked by Israeli forces while trying to reach wounded people last week in southern Gaza’s Rafah.
  • PRCS has called for an investigation into the deadly Israeli attack, which it called a war crime; Hamas says the medics were found “handcuffed and buried in a single grave”.
  • Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says Hamas must “lay down its weapons”, exile its leaders, and turn over Gaza’s security to Israel to reach the “final stage” of a ceasefire in the enclave.

Hamas says Israel’s Eid attacks show its ‘denial of moral values’

A statement on Telegram from the Palestinian group says the Israeli army has continued its bombardment of Gaza throughout the day, without any regard for the sanctity of Eid al-Fitr.

“The terrorist attacks on the first day of Eid al-Fitr resulted in the deaths of dozens of martyrs, including children in their Eid clothes,” it said. “The killing of children on Eid day inside their tents reveals the occupation’s fascism and its denial of any human or moral values,” the statement added.

Medical sources told Al Jazeera earlier that 64 people have been killed since dawn on Sunday in Israeli raids across Gaza.

Israel’s assault meant to make Gaza uninhabitable

Tariq Kenney-Shawa, a US policy fellow at Al-Shabaka, a Palestinian policy network, says Israel’s “deliberate destruction of Gaza” aims to render the enclave uninhabitable and force out Palestinians.

Kenney-Shawa was commenting on a post earlier today from Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu’s office that said Israel was “not hiding”, that its “plan” is to follow through on US President Donald Trump’s proposal to clear Palestinians out of Gaza.

“Only thing they’re hiding at this point is that this was the plan all along,” Kenney-Shawa wrote on X.

“They’ll call it the ‘Trump plan,’ but Israel’s deliberate destruction of Gaza – the demolition of hospitals, water treatment plants, entire neighborhoods – was designed to render Gaza uninhabitable, and leave no alternative but mass displacement.”

Israel’s Gantz says Netanyahu pushing country towards constitutional crisis

The comments from Israeli opposition leader Benny Gantz come after Netanyahu’s office announced plans to appoint a former Navy commander as the next head of the internal security agency.

Gantz described Netanyahu’s choice, retired Vice Admiral Eli Sharvit, as “an excellent person and commander, ethical and experienced”.

However, by announcing the decision to appoint Sharvit before Israel’s Supreme Court rules on a petition against his predecessor’s dismissal, Netanyahu is continuing “his campaign against the judicial system” and leading Israel “towards a dangerous constitutional crisis”, Gantz said.

“The appointment of the head of the Shin Bet must take place only after a Supreme Court decision,” he added.

Complaint for war crimes lodged in Romania against Israeli soldier

The Hind Rajab Foundation (HRF) has filed a criminal complaint before the Romanian prosecutor’s office against an Israeli soldier from the Givati Brigade.

HRF accuses Orel Benyaish of “committing war crimes and acts of genocide” during Israel’s ongoing military operations in the Gaza Strip.

In a statement, HRF said, “The evidence submitted includes images and videos posted by Benyaish himself, showing his direct involvement in the destruction of residential buildings in the Netzarim corridor.”

“He appears in uniform, smiling in front of homes rigged with explosives. In these same images is fellow soldier Yuval Vagdani, also of the Givati Brigade, who was photographed in the moment explosives were being placed for a controlled demolition. The two acted together, knowingly and deliberately, in destroying civilian homes without any military justification,” it said.

The Belgium-based NGO was formed seven months ago and has pulled together lawyers and activists from around the world to prepare cases against Israeli soldiers based on social media content shared by the soldiers themselves.

Rights group condemns Hungary for hosting Netanyahu despite ICC warrant

As we’ve been reporting, Hungary is set to receive the Israeli prime minister on Wednesday, despite a warrant by the International Criminal Court for his arrest.

The Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor is condemning the move.

In a post on X, the Geneva-based group said that Hungary, as a signatory to the Rome Statute that created the ICC, is “legally bound to cooperate fully” with the court’s warrants.

It said Hungarian President Viktor Orban’s decision not to enforce the warrant constitutes a “serious breach” of Hungary’s obligations under the Rome Statute.

“By hosting Netanyahu, Hungary is not merely failing to comply with international law—it is providing haven to a fugitive wanted for war crimes and crimes against humanity. This is not diplomatic neutrality. It is active complicity that grants impunity to someone who ought to be brought to justice,” it said.

And if other countries fail to hold Hungary accountable, they would “weaken the Court” and “abandon the victims of Gaza to impunity”, the rights group added.

Netanyahu and his former Defence Minister Yoav Gallant are wanted by the ICC for alleged war crimes in Gaza, including for depriving the civilian population of the Strip of food, water and medical supplies.
