Four Israeli tanks enter southern Lebanese village: Report

Four Israeli tanks have entered the western side of the Lebanese border village of Khiam, according to Lebanon’s official National News Agency.

It also reported Israeli artillery shelling targeting the outskirts of the towns of Markaba and Taloussa.

Videos show Israeli forces firing at people burying relative in Lebanon’s Khiam

Footage released by Lebanese media outlets and verified by Al Jazeera’s fact-checking agency, Sanad, shows Israeli forces stationed in the town of Khiam in southern Lebanon firing at several people as they try to bury a body in the cemetery.

One of the video clips shows a person fleeing and falling to the ground as the soldiers shoot as another person tries to escape to a side street.

A witness told Lebanese media that the Israeli army fired at people twice while they were trying to bury their relative despite having obtained approval from the Lebanese army and UNIFIL peacekeeping forces to be at this location near the Israeli army’s positions.

Other images posted by Lebanese activists online and verified by Sanad show several Israeli tanks positioned near the Khiam cemetery and a western neighbourhood of the town.

The National News Agency (NNA) confirmed the presence of four Israeli tanks in the town, as we reported earlier.

US surgeon says ‘hard to describe’ level of destruction in northern Gaza

Dr Mohammed Khaleel, an orthopaedic spine surgeon from the United States who worked in Khan Younis in southern Gaza in April, said the situation in the north of the Palestinian territory is “incredibly dire”.

The amount of devastation inflicted on northern Gaza is now “hard to describe”, he told Al Jazeera in an interview from Florida, in the US.

“In the south, we witnessed a genocide. In the north, it’s a full-on Holocaust. So many buildings are destroyed. There is an incredible amount of death and destruction that is even beyond what we saw in the south back in April,” he said.

Israeli quadcopters shoot survivors after drone attacks in Gaza, says US surgeon

“The use of drones and high-level technology for a lot of the destruction is really what’s remarkable,” Khaleel told Al Jazeera.

“There are armed drones – drones that are carrying bombs – and then on the back of those drones we see quadcopters that descend down and appear to shoot bullets for anyone that remains moving,” he said.

“We had a number of people who were brought in, entire families that were killed, and any survivors that remained would describe having to lay still for a while because of the fear of quadcopter fire after the bomb had already been dropped,” he added.

Top Dutch court advised to continue Israel export ban of F-35 parts: Report

The Supreme Court of the Netherlands, the country’s highest court, has been advised by its advocate general to uphold a ruling which states that the government must end its export of F-35 components to Israel, the Reuters news agency reports.

“According to the advocate general [of the Supreme Court], the Court of Appeal was justified in finding that there is a clear risk that Israel’s F-35 fighter jets are being used to commit serious violations of international humanitarian law in the Gaza Strip,” the court’s adviser said.

In February, The Hague Court of Appeal ordered the halting of these exports over concerns they were being used to violate international law during Israel’s war on Gaza, prompting the government to then say it would go to the Supreme Court.

60 British MPs urge UK to impose sanctions on Israel: Report

More than 60 British MPs have sent a letter to the UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy, urging him to impose sanctions on Israel over “repeated violations of international law”, according to the Wafa news agency.

Former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn is among the MPs to sign the letter, the agency said.

The letter references the International Court of Justice’s advisory opinion from July, which declared Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territory unlawful and called for it to end as soon as possible.

“The court also found that all states, including the UK, have obligations to not recognise as legal the situation arising from the unlawful presence of Israel in the occupied Palestinian territory and to not render any aid or assistance in maintaining this,” the letter states.

The MPs are urging the UK government to impose sanctions and take other actions to implement the ICJ’s ruling, Wafa said.

UN marks International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People

The plight of the Palestinian people remains the world’s longest unresolved refugee crisis and the people of Gaza, just in the last year, have come under the most intense bombardment of any civilian population since World War II.

Those were just two harrowing facts that the UN has highlighted to mark today’s commemoration of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.

Which countries recognise Palestine in 2024?

This year, amid Israel’s continuing war on Gaza, nine countries – Armenia, Slovenia, Ireland, Norway, Spain, the Bahamas, Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica and Barbados – formally recognised the State of Palestine, reflecting growing international support.

On November 29, the world observes the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, a day established by the UN in 1977 to emphasise global support for Palestinian rights, including self-determination, independence and a just resolution to the issue of Palestinian refugees.

Very telling map showing the countries that do not support a Palestinian state. Mostly the colonial fuckers of the world.

‘Beyond ceasefire’, creation of Palestinian state also important: Norway foreign minister

A demonstration has been held in Norway’s capital, Oslo, in solidarity with Palestinians at the initiative of the Norwegian Church.

The country’s king, members of the government and leaders of political parties participated in the demonstration, Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide has told Al Jazeera.

“We must stop the war and killing in Gaza, but we must [also] strive to achieve the aspirations of the Palestinian people,” he said. “We have taken initiatives such as recognising the State of Palestine and supporting UNRWA, and we hope that other countries will follow suit,” he added.

The top diplomat said it was necessary to “think collectively beyond the ceasefire”, and work towards the establishment of a Palestinian state.

UN’s Guterres marks ‘painful’ day of solidarity with Palestinians

UN chief Antonio Guterres has relayed a message advocating for Palestinian freedom, security and statehood on the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.

Guterres’s message, read out by the director of the UN’s office in Geneva, called this year’s commemoration “especially painful” as Palestinians’ aspirations for “dignity, rights, justice and self-determination … are as distant as they have ever been”.

He called for an “immediate ceasefire” in Gaza, urgent humanitarian aid to reach the enclave, the release of captives, and progress toward a two-state solution that ensures the peace and security of both Israel and Palestine.

“The UN will continue to stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people and their inalienable rights to live in peace, security and dignity,” said the statement by Guterres.

Gaza endures worst bombardment of civilians since WWII: UNRWA

The UN’s agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) has also issued a statement marking the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People. The agency called for a ceasefire in Gaza, whose civilians it says have suffered the most intense bombardment in the post-WWII era.

It also acknowledged the plight of Palestinian refugees, describing it as the world’s “longest unresolved refugee crisis”.

At least 29 killed in Israeli attacks on Nuseirat refugee camp: Report

At least 29 people have been killed following a series of Israeli attacks on the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza since Thursday morning, the Shehab news agency reports.

As we’ve been reporting, Israeli fighter jets have carried out an intense bombing campaign in the Nuseirat area over the past day, targeting residential buildings and homes, as well as mosques and other public facilities.

One Israeli attack on Thursday struck a home sheltering displaced Palestinians, resulting in nine members from one family being killed. Israeli fighter jets also bombed a house in the camp belonging to the Dahdouh family on Friday, killing at least five people.

Our Al Jazeera Arabic colleagues have now reported that ambulance teams have recovered from the rubble the bodies of the Shraim family. The number of casualties has not been confirmed.

Paramedics ‘collecting bodies’ from streets of Gaza’s Nuseirat refugee camp

Starting in the early hours of this morning, we clearly heard the sound of heavy machineguns and drones buzzing overhead, encircling Deir el-Balah and Nuseirat refugee camp.

This provided cover for Israeli tanks and armoured vehicles as they pull out from areas they invaded over the past 24 hours.

As the day broke, many displaced people made their way back to Nuseirat refugee camp to check on family members still inside. Many were shocked to find out that their family members were not able to leave due to quadcopters constantly shooting at them.

We’ve seen footage of ambulances being barred from reaching people injured in the streets, where some were left overnight. We spoke briefly to paramedics and first responders, who described the grim reality in the refugee camp. Many people have been killed either inside their homes or as they were making their way out of their residential buildings into the streets, they said. They are literally collecting bodies right now from the streets.

More dead, wounded in Gaza City, Khan Younis

We are getting more reports of casualties near Gaza City, where Israel’s military has carried out a spate of deadly attacks in recent hours. According to our colleagues on the ground, an Israeli attack killed or injured three people at an intersection to the west of the city.

Further south, a recent Israeli attack killed four family members in their home in Khan Younis, reports Al Jazeera’s Hani Mahmoud. “The attacks continue to pound across the Strip, not only causing casualties but inflicting more destruction and trauma,” said Mahmoud.

Paramedics still rushing to retrieve dead, wounded in Nuseirat

Paramedics and Civil Defence crews are still collecting bodies from the streets of Nuseirat refugee camp. The past 24 hours have been very difficult in the northern part of the camp, where the Israeli military operated aggressively, destroying many of the homes and public facilities.

So far, 19 bodies have been collected. But there are still more, according to one of the first responders. Many of the bodies are difficult to reach because they are in areas very close to where the Israeli military is stationed.

In recent hours, Israel’s military has deliberately stopped ambulance and Civil Defence crew from getting to some of the sites where wounded people were still bleeding. Quadcopters chased them, firing live ammunition.

Palestinians who made their way to their homes in Nuseirat talked about the sheer level of destruction inflicted on their homes and public facilities. The military turned entire neighbourhoods into more of a wasteland.

Naim Qassem declares ‘divine victory’ in televised address

Hezbollah’s secretary-general has been speaking in a televised address, the first since a ceasefire with Israel came into effect two days ago.

Naim Qassem declared “divine victory” after months of cross-border attacks and fighting with Israeli forces, saying it is bigger than the one in 2006 when Hezbollah went to war with Israel for 34 days.

Qassem also described Israel’s losses as “massive” and said thousands in Israel have been displaced from towns near the border with Lebanon.

He said Hezbollah “approved” the ceasefire and coordination between Hezbollah and the Lebanese army will be carried out on a “high level” to ensure implementation of the agreement. But he warned Hezbollah is prepared “for war” if Israel attacks.

Qassem said Israeli soldiers suffered a lot of losses as “many were killed and wounded” in battles with Hezbollah.

He said plans put forward by the group’s slain chief Hassan Nasrallah proved to be agile, effective and took into account various “developments”.

Israeli forces killed and displaced thousands of people, but failed to succeed among the “steadfast” Lebanese population that “stunned the world and instilled fear in the Israeli army”, Qassem said.

He said he hopes a president will be elected in a parliamentary session on January 9.

Kill one delusional leader, the next one, even more delusional, steps right up. If you call Israel's losses massive, then what would you call the situation in Lebanon... Over 3,600 dead, entire towns destroyed, divine victory.

You don't stop religious nutters with violence, you need to take away their support. Offer people a better alternative. Yet Israel makes sure the Lebanese government stays weak, allowing Hezbollah to grow.

Hezbollah’s Qassem pays tribute to group’s slain leaders

Hezbollah’s chief Naim Qassem reiterated the group “maintains its right to self-defence”.

He paid tribute to several of Hezbollah’s leaders killed in Israeli attacks since mid-September, among them the group’s former Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah and Hashem Safieddine, who had been widely expected to take over the leadership.

Qassem also acknowledged those killed among the Lebanese armed forces, as well as members of the civil defence and medical teams who worked “in the battlefield”.

He congratulated the Lebanese people on the thousands of “martyrs” and said the group’s support for Palestine “will not stop”. The liberation of Palestine, he said, is “a goal that can be achieved in various ways”.

Not in a military way, that much is clear.

Several Israeli ceasefire violations

There have been several breaches from Israel of the ceasefire in different Lebanese villages and towns on the border. There’s been gunshots towards civilians. There’s been artillery bombardment. There’s been Merkava tanks launching shells on several areas.

There’s been several violations, and Israel is trying to prevent people from getting to their villages, trying to set restrictions and curfews.
