Classic whataboutism

But indeed, there are many more atrocities going on around the world 24/7. Atm the Israeli made Gaza humanitarian crisis is the worst of all with the real possibility of Israel igniting WW3 while eradicating International Law established after WW2 to prevent and punish these atrocities.

And even if Gaza wasn't currently the worst nor one of the longest ongoing conflicts, his message is please go protest for a cause that's less inconvenient to me?

US advocacy groups back Palestine solidarity campus protests

Several faith, civil rights and progressive groups have expressed solidarity with university students protesting US support for Israel.

“We commend the students who are exercising their right to protest peacefully despite an overwhelming atmosphere of pressure, intimidation and retaliation, to raise awareness about Israel’s assault on Gaza – with US weapons and funding,” the organisations said.

The statement, backed by nearly 190 groups, highlights the growing progressive support for the campus protest movement despite crackdowns by university administrators and law enforcement agencies.

Search for survivors after Jabalia refugee camp bombing

The Wafa news agency is reporting that the eastern parts of the Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza have come under Israeli bombardment.

A video shared on social media by photographer Mahmoud Shelha, and verified by Al Jazeera, shows residents and rescuers searching for survivors under collapsed concrete slabs.

Houthis claim attack on two vessels, two US destroyers

Yemen’s Houthis targeted two US destroyers and the vessel CYCLADES in the Red Sea as well as the MSC Orion in the Indian Ocean, the group’s military spokesman Yahya Sarea said.

The Houthis, who control the most populated parts of Yemen, have carried out dozens of attacks on vessels with commercial ties to the US, the UK and Israel in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden since November.

The group says the attacks are a response to Israel’s assault on Gaza.

Israeli drone attack kills 2 in Gaza City

Two people were killed and several others injured when an Israeli military drone attacked a house in the Tuffah neighbourhood of Gaza City, the Wafa news agency is reporting.

Israeli forces also bombed other areas of the city in the north of the Gaza Strip, Wafa reports, including the Daraj and Sheikh Radwan neighbourhoods.

The overnight attacks on Gaza City come after a day of deadly strikes across the Palestinian territory.

‘A city of death and ghosts’: UNRWA chief laments Israel’s destruction of Gaza

UNRWA chief Philippe Lazzarini said Gaza City has been transformed in the space of less than a year into a place “riddled with havoc and destruction”. What was once a “vibrant city on the coast” with schools, markets and people going about their daily lives is now “a city of death and ghosts”.

Lazzarini, the head of the UN’s agency for Palestinian refugees, also said that rebuilding the war-torn Palestinian territory will take more than “brick and stone”.

“It’s about healing and overcoming. The longer the war, the further away we are pushed from that,” Lazzarini said in a post on social media, adding that a “ceasefire is overdue”.

ICJ to rule on Germany ‘genocide’ charge over support for Israel’s war on Gaza

The UN’s top court will rule today on charges brought by Nicaragua that Germany is breaching the 1948 Genocide Convention by supplying arms to Israel for use in its war on Gaza.

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague is scheduled to issue an order in the case at 3pm local time (13:00 GMT). ICJ president, Judge Nawaf Salam, will read the court’s order at that time.

Nicaragua brought Germany before the ICJ to demand that judges impose emergency measures to stop Berlin from providing Israel with weapons and other assistance used in Gaza, and to ensure that weapons already sent to Israel “are not used to commit or to facilitate serious violations of the Genocide Convention”.

Nicaragua took action against Germany rather than Israel’s main ally and largest supplier of weapons used in Gaza, the US, because Washington does not recognise the ICJ’s jurisdiction in the case, Nicaragua’s legal team said.

Germany has rejected Nicaragua’s claims.

Of the US doesn't recognize the ICJ, USA is above the law. It's also the US that told Israel that the UNSC ceasefire resolution is not binding, even though it is. The ongoing genocide is not only shattering the 'democracy' narrative of Israel, it's also showing the US' true colors.

Only US, not Int’l Criminal Court, can deter Israel from Rafah invasion

The US would need to be clearer about its position to deter Israel from invading Rafah, Gideon Levy, a columnist at the Israeli newspaper Haaretz has told Al Jazeera’s Inside Story. Netanyahu is “unfortunately” likely to proceed with the Rafah plan “unless the Americans will be very clear about it, which they don’t seem to be”, Levy said.

The Biden administration has said that it could not support a Rafah invasion without an appropriate and credible humanitarian plan from Israel.

While Levy said potential accountability from the International Criminal Court (ICC) was unlikely to deter Netanyahu, it is “exactly the role of the international community” to hold the people “responsible for the reality in Gaza” accountable.

“The world sees Gaza and everyone who sees Gaza cannot remain indifferent,” he said.

Well perhaps the ICC should issue arrest warrants for Biden and Blinken as well. 27 billion in aid of which 14 billion in unconditional military aid, how much more complicit can you be in genocide. The US doesn't recognize the ICC either, however the same reason the ICC can rule over war crimes in Gaza and the West Bank applies to the US.

Although maybe that's why the US is so adamant to deny having US soldiers involved and none can set foot in Gaza while building the pier.

Columbia University students say protest highlights ‘bigger cause’

The students remain defiant and they remain here in the campus. Hundreds of students have not only been carrying out a sit-in – in the middle of campus – but also protesting against genocide [in Gaza] and they have lots of demands.

They say they would like to see financial transparency from this university. They would like to see university funds, for example, not being used or being invested in companies that profit from the war.

They would also like to see an amnesty for the students and faculty who have been disciplined.

Those are their demands.

The students … say that they will remain here [and] are not afraid of being suspended, facing expulsion or being arrested. They say they are here for a bigger cause. They are here to shed light on the killings, on the displacement, and on the hunger that is going on in Gaza right now.

MIT student protesters in renewed talks with university management

These student protesters have been here for more than a week. That’s when this encampment first sprung up.

Only 24 hours ago, the president of MIT said that all talks were off, that was it, it was done because they had reached a stalemate and the protesters would not budge. They weren’t willing to negotiate.

That has now changed. They have spent most of the day with the administration and the protesters, or some of the protesters, behind closed doors are trying to find some kind of solution that works for both of them. Those talks, we understand, are now over for the day.

It is very unlikely that we are going to see the police move in because there is the potential for some form of resolution.

Cornell announces more student suspensions

Martha Pollack, the president of Cornell University in the state of New York, says the university will suspend more students after they refused to relocate a Gaza war protest encampment.

In a letter sent to students on Monday, Pollack said that staff involved in the protest would also be referred to HR.

Momodou Taal, a Cornell PhD student who was temporarily suspended last week, told Al Jazeera the encampment protesters’ demands included calling for the university to divest from weapons’ manufacturers.

Just under 70 percent of students who voted in a recent referendum agreed their university should divest from companies supporting the ongoing war in Gaza, including several weapons companies.

UN expert says Columbia University suspension threats ‘violation’ of students’ rights

Mary Lawlor, the UN special rapporteur on human rights defenders, has described as “disturbing” reports that students at Columbia University in New York could be suspended for refusing to end their Gaza solidarity encampment.

“This is a clear violation of their right to peaceful assembly,” Lawlor said.

Columbia University students have refused to end their protest until the university responds to their demands, which include divesting from companies profiting from Israel’s war on Gaza.

I don't understand how these riot police can live in their skins when doing this. They probably don't understand the Pro in Pro-palestine

Bill Maher demonstrates what happens when you prioritize your disdain for a religion higher than your empathy for human lives.

They only understand "protect and serve" the interests of the rich and powerful. Or rather, their paycheck.

Same as the military, do as you're told, 'don't question your orders' is drilled in. Focus on the 'mission' not the why. Exactly what the students are protesting for, not to just do as your told and question authority.

That's what the establishment is most afraid about. This is the next generation ready to lead companies, enter politics and law. Can't have critical thinkers in there that will question what companies, politics and law are actually doing. Atm Google can still simply dismiss their workers that aren't happy with Project Nimbus for example. Yet in a few years these protestors will become the next workforce and change will spread from within.

You don't see any coverage of or police action against holocaust survivors protesting.

The establishment is always afraid of the next generation. Especially now the standard indoctrination channels, the mainstream media, don't work anymore. Politics is losing gen Z. It was already happening well before the destruction of Gaza. For example https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2022/08/progressive-gen-z-politics-voting/671130/

Gaza has focused this distrust and disappointment and has now brought young people together in protest. Despite how the mainstream media is portraying the protests, young people of all different backgrounds are coming together for a common cause. Talking to each other, breaking down the barriers that are supposed to keep them divided and directing their anger at the establishment.

The US always wanted to keep things in the "us vs them" / "with us or against is" spotlight, now they have it against their own kids.
