Israeli drone attack kills 2 in Gaza City
Two people were killed and several others injured when an Israeli military drone attacked a house in the Tuffah neighbourhood of Gaza City, the Wafa news agency is reporting.
Israeli forces also bombed other areas of the city in the north of the Gaza Strip, Wafa reports, including the Daraj and Sheikh Radwan neighbourhoods.
The overnight attacks on Gaza City come after a day of deadly strikes across the Palestinian territory.
‘A city of death and ghosts’: UNRWA chief laments Israel’s destruction of Gaza
UNRWA chief Philippe Lazzarini said Gaza City has been transformed in the space of less than a year into a place “riddled with havoc and destruction”. What was once a “vibrant city on the coast” with schools, markets and people going about their daily lives is now “a city of death and ghosts”.
Lazzarini, the head of the UN’s agency for Palestinian refugees, also said that rebuilding the war-torn Palestinian territory will take more than “brick and stone”.
“It’s about healing and overcoming. The longer the war, the further away we are pushed from that,” Lazzarini said in a post on social media, adding that a “ceasefire is overdue”.
This time last year, #Gaza was a vibrant city on the coast. It had schools, markets and people going about their daily lives.
Now, it’s riddled with havoc and destruction: a city of death and ghosts.
