As expected, US Senate votes for continuing genocide

US Senate votes overwhelmingly to advance Israel aid

Billions of dollars in foreign aid for Israel, Ukraine and Taiwan have advanced in the US Senate, heading for a final vote just days after the House of Representatives abruptly ended a months-long stalemate and approved the assistance.

The Senate voted 80-19 in favour of advancing the package of four bills passed by the House, far more than the 60 votes needed to pave the way for a final vote as soon as Tuesday or Wednesday.

One of the bills would provide $26bn for Israel.

Biden has promised to sign the legislation as soon as it passes the Senate.

Not surprising, USA also supported apartheid in South Africa for as long as possible. And ties with Israel are much stronger.

Israeli military committing ‘war crimes’ in Gaza with US weaponry: Amnesty International

Paul O’Brien, the executive director of Amnesty International USA, said Israeli forces in Gaza are committing war crimes against Palestinian people using “US-made munitions”.

In a post on social media, O’Brien said research by the global rights group shows that war crimes are being committed in the Palestinian territory by Israeli forces and the US must stop sending weapons to Israel.

O’Brien also thanks 37 members of the US Congress who voted no to the Israel arms bill that will see $26.38bn in military aid provided to Israeli forces.

The US military aid package, according to reports, will restock missiles for Israel’s Iron Dome and David’s Sling defence systems, boost depleted military supplies amid Israel’s war on Gaza, and provide some $3.5bn for “advanced weapons systems” among other provisions.

Jamaica recognises the State of Palestine

The Jamaican government says it has “taken a decision to recognise the State of Palestine” amid concerns over Israel’s war on Gaza and the “ever-deepening humanitarian crisis” in the Palestinian territory.

“The decision is aligned with Jamaica’s strong commitment to the principles of the Charter of the United Nations, which seek to engender mutual respect and peaceful co-existence among states, as well as the recognition of the right of people to self-determination,“ the country’s ministry of foreign affairs said in a statement.

Jamaica’s Foreign Minister Kamina Johnson Smith said her country wanted to see “a peaceful resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict through diplomatic dialogue rather than military actions”.

Lazzarini says increase in aid trucks to Gaza needs to be sustained

The head of UNRWA has said on X that “more than 310 trucks of aid” entered Gaza yesterday, adding that this is the highest number of trucks since October 7.

“This shows that when there is a will there is a way. It needs now to be sustained and further increased. Trucks should include both commercial and humanitarian supplies so that the markets can re-open” he said.

Earlier, we reported on comments from David Satterfield, the US’s special humanitarian envoy, who said that the risk of famine in Gaza is “very high”.

Lazzarini said that famine in northern Gaza can be averted, but only with “meaningful and uninterrupted supply [of aid], including through UNRWA”.

In an interview today, he told Al Jazeera that Israel’s ongoing campaign to dismantle and discredit his agency would spell disaster for Palestinians facing famine in Gaza, as UNRWA is the only agency with the infrastructure in place in the Strip to supply adequate humanitarian assistance.

27 were for the private sector, 316 total, 289 for the various aid organizations. It's a record nonetheless. And still only half of what's needed daily now.

Tent encampments expand in southern Gaza as Israel prepares Rafah ground invasion

The AP news agency says satellite photos show the expansion of tents set up near Rafah in southern Gaza as the Israeli military prepares for a ground offensive on the area where more than 1 million Palestinian people have sought shelter from the war.

A Palestinian health official told the AP that the tent camp was being set up to house displaced people who are now sheltering in a hospital and is not related to the impending Israeli military operation.

Aid workers and foreign governments are warning of a catastrophe should Israeli troops invade Rafah.

US military to begin construction of Gaza sea platform, aid pier ‘very soon’

The US will soon begin construction of a pier to boost aid deliveries by sea to Gaza, the Pentagon said. “All the necessary vessels are within the Mediterranean region and standing by,” Pentagon spokesman Major General Pat Ryder told journalists.

“We are positioned to begin construction very soon,” Ryder said.

According to the French news agency AFP, the US plans to establish an offshore platform for the transfer of aid from larger to smaller vessels, and a pier to bring it ashore in the Gaza Strip.

US officials have said the construction will not involve US soldiers on the ground in Gaza, but troops will come close to Gaza as they construct the pier. Israeli forces will provide security for the construction operation, AFP reports.

Palestinians shot, wounded by Israeli forces in confrontations near Hebron

At least three Palestinians have been shot with live ammunition by Israeli forces in Beit Ummar, on the northern outskirts of Hebron in the occupied West Bank, the Palestinian news agency Wafa reported.

It said several others suffered tear gas inhalation during confrontations with Israeli soldiers, which broke out shortly after Israeli forces raided the town.

Those shot have been taken to a nearby hospital, and their conditions have been described as “moderate”.

‘Highest ever’ number of Palestinians held in administrative detention, prisoners group says

There are more than 3,660 Palestinians held in administrative detention by Israel, the Palestinian Prisoners Club, an advocacy organisation, says.

The unprecedented figure includes Palestinians from the occupied West Bank, East Jerusalem, and the besieged Gaza Strip. Among them are 22 women and more than 40 children, it said.

Prior to October 7, some 1,320 Palestinians were held in administrative detention. The widely criticised practice involves holding Palestinians on secret evidence, without charge or trial, indefinitely.

Israeli forces raid towns near Jenin in occupied West Bank

Israeli forces have raided several towns and villages in the occupied West Bank, mainly areas in and around the Jenin governorate, the Wafa news agency reports. These include the villages of Rummanah, Taybeh and Anin, west of Jenin, as well as the village of al-Fandaqumiya, south of Jenin.

Israeli soldiers launched a “massive search campaign”, Wafa said, but did not report any arrests. It said these raids come as Israeli forces continue their raid of Jalbun, east of Jenin, for a second consecutive day.

Three killed in Israeli attack on residential building in Rafah

At least four others were wounded in the air strike that hit a residential home in the Salam neighbourhood in southern Gaza’s Rafah, reports Al Jazeera’s Hani Mahmoud, citing Gaza Civil Defence crews and paramedics on the scene.

According to Mahmoud, those who lost their lives include a father and his son, and the injured all belong to the same family.

Several killed, wounded in Israeli attacks across Gaza

Several Palestinians have been killed and wounded in various attacks across Gaza in the past several hours, the Wafa news agency has reported.

A series of Israeli air strikes hit areas in northern and central Gaza, Wafa said. Gaza City’s Zeitoun and Tuffah neighbourhoods were targeted and several people were “killed and wounded”, it said.

Israeli air attacks also destroyed a tower and a shopping centre on Jalaa Street in Gaza City, while Israeli forces launched artillery attacks east of the Shujayea neighbourhood.

In central Gaza’s Deir el-Balah, a vehicle was hit in an air strike, killing at least one person and wounding several others. Both the Breij and Nuseirat refugee camps came under attack, as well.

In northern Gaza’s Jabalia refugee camp, Israeli forces targeted a residential home. In Beit Lahiya, “violent and continuous” air raids forced hundreds of families to flee their homes.

Latest Israeli attacks kill four in central Gaza refugee camp

We are receiving reports from our colleagues at Al Jazeera Arabic that four people have been killed in an Israeli bombing near a school in the Nuseirat refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip and that Israeli forces have fired artillery shells at the Zeitoun neighbourhood, southeast of Gaza City.

An Israeli air strike also hit a site in az-Zawayda in the central Gaza Strip.

‘Continuous’ shelling of northern Gaza neighbourhoods follows Israeli evacuation order

The north Gaza areas of Beit Lahiya, Beit Hanoon and east of Jabalia have come under sustained Israeli artillery shelling, our colleagues in Al Jazeera Arabic report.

The attacks following a warning on Tuesday evening by Avichay Adraee, an Israeli army spokesperson, for Palestinians residents to immediately evacuate designated areas of Beit Lahiya, which he described as a “dangerous combat zone”.

The Israeli army “will use extreme force against terrorist infrastructure and subversive elements in the region”, he warned.

Krystal and Saagar discuss the media smearing Columbia protesters as dangerous antisemites.

Columbia Students: Protests Are About Palestine, Anti-Semitism Accusations Are a Distraction

One week into the Gaza Solidarity Encampment at Columbia University, students called a press conference on the campus lawn in front of the President’s House to address accusations in the media that the protests are antisemitic. Students say the attacks pure slander meant to distract from the real objectives of their movement: to bring the world’s attention to the genocide in Gaza and to make Columbia divesting from Israel inevitable.

Police crack down on Columbia University Gaza protest

Local media and social media users are reporting that the New York City Police Department has stormed the campus of Columbia University, where students have been camped out in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza, demanding that the institution divest from Israel.

Photos show the police on campus a short while ago, and video verified by Al Jazeera shows arrests being made.

University management had given the students a deadline to leave, which the majority of them ignored.

Earlier this week, leaders from Columbia University appeared before a committee in the United States Congress to face questions about alleged instances of anti-Semitism on campus. The hearing was a sequel of sorts to a similar panel held in December, featuring the presidents of Harvard, the University of Pennsylvania and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Lol the US news calls it anti-Israel protesters, not surprised.

This is absolute corruption and injustice. Why are people allowing the media and the police to do this, call people anti-israel protestors and put them in busses. Then the US considers itself a democracy, it's all fake.

A guy got permabanned from the politics forum due to a post at the begining of your thread for pointing out factual ties between Israel and the United States government, but now we see that the protests are called anti-israel and not pro-palestine for a very clear reason, high-placed people in the US with Jewish affiliation are feeling pressured and triggered, and so the media is weaponised against the protests. But the protests can't stop because nobody will stop protesting when children are dying. I also am quite upset at vgchartz for censoring people, it is not much different than the media calling protestors anti-Israel and protestors being forcefully put in police Buses.

Another point I need to mention. After sanctioning Russia to hell and back, if we want to stop children from dying, why is Israel not being sanctioned? Explain that to me.

Here's a big reason why

Gaza is a big weapons test lab and many countries are importing tested weapons from Israel. Many countries are also addicted to the spy software Israel develops like Pegasus.

Plus Israel has a lot of control over US politics, the USA is firmly behind Israel and even more countries depend on good relations with the USA.

Sanctioning Russia is fine for the West (well mostly, gas is an issue), sanctioning Israel is going against the USA and risk being left out of those 'fun' oppression technologies and weapons Israel exports.

Gas is another big part of it. Europe wants to import more gas from Israel and Egypt to full fill the increasing demand and replace the remaining Russian gas that some of Europe still imports.

'Colonial exploits': Israel plans to loot Palestinian gas reserves

https://www.trtworld.com/middle-east/colonial-exploits-israel-plans-to-loot-palestinian-gas-reserves-17603104

Israel has awarded licenses to six companies, including Italy’s ENI, Dana Petroleum, a UK-based subsidiary of the Korea National Oil Corporation, and Israeli company Ratio Petroleum to areas falling within Palestinian territory.

In the middle of Israel’s ongoing assault on Gaza, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s far-right government has quietly doled out licenses to local and international companies to find and extract gas from areas considered to be Palestinian maritime zones.

Of course once it all belonged to Palestine until the UK showed up

Now you know, every time you turn the heat on or the gas stove in Europe, you starve a few more Palestinians...

Why shutting down an Israeli gas field could matter for Europe?

The Tamar field is believed to hold more than 300 billion cubic metres of gas, which is the equivalent of the annual European natural gas imports. The field provides 70% of Israel’s energy needs for power generation, according to Chevron.

A lengthy shutdown would result in a drop in Israeli gas exports to its neighbours, including Egypt, which itself, provides gas export to the European market.

This year, Egypt's exports are expected to be 7.5 million tonnes, with the majority destined for Europe and Turkey. The country has planned to resume liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports this month.
