Gas is another big part of it. Europe wants to import more gas from Israel and Egypt to full fill the increasing demand and replace the remaining Russian gas that some of Europe still imports.

'Colonial exploits': Israel plans to loot Palestinian gas reserves

Israel has awarded licenses to six companies, including Italy’s ENI, Dana Petroleum, a UK-based subsidiary of the Korea National Oil Corporation, and Israeli company Ratio Petroleum to areas falling within Palestinian territory.

In the middle of Israel’s ongoing assault on Gaza, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s far-right government has quietly doled out licenses to local and international companies to find and extract gas from areas considered to be Palestinian maritime zones.

Of course once it all belonged to Palestine until the UK showed up

Now you know, every time you turn the heat on or the gas stove in Europe, you starve a few more Palestinians...

Why shutting down an Israeli gas field could matter for Europe?

The Tamar field is believed to hold more than 300 billion cubic metres of gas, which is the equivalent of the annual European natural gas imports. The field provides 70% of Israel’s energy needs for power generation, according to Chevron.

A lengthy shutdown would result in a drop in Israeli gas exports to its neighbours, including Egypt, which itself, provides gas export to the European market.

This year, Egypt's exports are expected to be 7.5 million tonnes, with the majority destined for Europe and Turkey. The country has planned to resume liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports this month.
