Forums - Gaming - Massive poll GRAPHICS VS 60FPS

I didn't know your topic was about a massive poll showing ps5 users vastly prefer 60fps over graphics. all you did was ask members here what they preferred. this is a different topic then yours, so time to move on. I wanted to share the poll results with the community, i could not do that in your thread.

You will win that mental gymnastics gold someday.

Look who's talking.

For games that require responsive/twitch movement like Call of Duty or Mario Kart. - 60fps.

Story driven set-pieces where the game is more cinematic rather than action based like Skyrim or Zelda. - 30fps with the best visuals, you just spend longer taking the assets in, so you want them to be the best they can be.

what about games like  GOW or dark souls type games? where the combat is a heavy focus. The last one is starfield  does 30fps bother you in that game?

Gears of War is playable at 30fps.
God of War is also playable at 30fps.

Dark Souls is one that benefits greatly from 60fps due to the difficulty and need to be reactionary.

Starfield is a Bethesda game that will naturally be slower so 30fps is fine.

That isn't to say there isn't a big advantage at 60fps for games like Gears of War or God of War, but they aren't broken experiences at 30fps.

In saying that, there is a difference between 30fps with good frame pacing and consistency than a locked 60fps with lots of buffering and poor framepacing.

Really?  I thought 60fps locked is always better then 30fps no matter what. Any examples of games that are locked 60fps with those issues.

This showcases poor frame pacing.

The idea is that for 60fps, each frame needs to be prepared and showed every 16.67ms.

But if you have one frame being showed at 16.67ms then the next at 33.34ms, then the next at 8.33ms, you still have 60fps, but the frames themselves aren't showed at a consistent and correct pace, which makes it look juddery.

Some games, even 30fps games use significant amounts of buffering which also introduces input lag which makes the controls feel un-responsive and floating. - We saw this with Halo 3 for example with it's triple buffered renderer.

This highlights how input latency can vary significantly in games:

So something like dead or alive 6, yes it's 60fps, but it's input latency is almost twice as long as Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom, so it feels unresponsive and sluggish.

Thanks. never heard about this. I heard bloodborne has poor frame pacing but it feels pretty good lol.

Why is this its own thread instead of being posted in Leynos's thread?

I think this deserves it's own thread considering how large the poll was 13k voted and 74% wanted 60fps that kinda of ends the debate of what most gamers prefer imo.

This proves that gamers who also spend time on gaming websites and have an interest in the debate tend to find 60FPS very important, this does not prove that ''most'' gamers prefer it. I'd reckon most gamers don't even know what the difference would be.

The title of the article is ''Do you care about 60fps on PS5?''. Someone who truly doesn't care, is not even going to bother reading it, let alone cast a vote. This is going to attract more people who are invested in the topic than people who don't care. 13k is also just about 0.035% of the 38 million PS5 owners. This poll, as so many before it, is just an echo chamber.

People bought the Xbox Series X to play at 60fps. After 3 years, we get the first next gen AAA game, Starfield, and it is 30fps ONLY. That is bad software engineering. Even if they lower resolution and graphics, it cannot run at 60fps, because of the source code.

Sold my Xbox, I'm done. I'm a 60fps gamer. I didn't buy an Xbox to wait 3 years for 30fps, and 5 years for the rest of the games they talked about. And Rare and Perfect Dark are nowhere to be seen. Mass Effect might not even come out before the next gen launches. Where is Dragon Age, 8 years later. Terrible.

I just want an RTX 4060 home console from Nintendo. In the meantime, I'm building a PC to play Starfield at 60fps. Fast CPU, weak GPU, that's all I need.

Why would anyone buy a ps5 if 60fps doesn't matter? PS4 and ps5 have basically the same games so far. I can guarantee  you anyone that plays, COD online would feel a massive difference between 60fps and 30fps. same thing for sports games, and sim racers.

yea 10$ for a movie is very comparable to a 580$ buy with a game.
