alpha, off topic, but I´m a complete noob when it comes to online gaming, especially on the Wii.....say I want to play Smash Bros Brawl online, how do I find my copy´s friend code?...also,can I play with random people or only people whom I´ve exchanged friend codes with?

[Offtopic]

If you connect to the Nintendo Wi-Fi part of SSB, then you'll see it in your friends list. See:

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamemode/wi-fi/wi-fi03.html

You can also play with randoms.  That's normally what I do because I usually don't have time to play multiple games in a row, and so don't wanna play with people I know in case I have to leave suddenly :-/

It is generally understood that the future of any long-term product or brand is in grabbing people early in their lives -- i.e. kids -- and hooking them.  See cigarettes for an example...  I've been in elementary school classrooms all week and took some quick polls...  Half a dozen different classes and I always got the same response:  Room full of 20 kids -- roughly 60-70% had a Wii.  Maybe a handful of 360s and 1 or 2 PS3s...

If Nintendo finally breaks through and sells enough consoles THIS gen, are they setting themselves up to be the defacto leader next gen?  Todays K-5 kids are tomorrows hardcore gamers...   If the Wii pushes 100+ million consoles out the door by the time the next generation comes around AND they decide to build something with some serious horsepower in the next generation, Nintendo could very well end up as the leading gaming company for the forseeable future...

On a side note, one kid had just finished COD4 on his PS3.  7 years old.  I don't know what to say there....

haha thats probably what everyone said about PS2 with its success. This generation means NOTHING next generation.

Yeah, Sony owned last gen big time with the PS2. They were all set to TOTALLY OWN the next gen.  It didn't happen, though.  Why? The PS3, priced at $599, was (in hindsight), one of the dumbest moves they could possibly have made. Had the PS3 been $399 out of the gate and approached $299 within the first year, they would have stormed the market... Nintendo won't make the same mistake. The Wii 2 or whatever it is called (I vote Revolution) will not be a $600 console. Plan on it being approachable by the masses from day one, 100% backward compatible, but having graphics hardware better than where the PS3 and 360 are today. All that for, say, $299 at launch perhaps?

It could be a long 10 - 15 years for Sony and MS if Nintendo steps up to the plate and gets the AAA third party titles rolling and manufactures some more damn hardware.

*Oh Yeah* I guess I'm the only one who finds it a bit inappropriate for a 7 year old to be playing COD4.

I hate trolls.

Systems I currently own:  360, PS3, Wii, DS Lite (2)
Systems I've owned: PS2, PS1, Dreamcast, Saturn, 3DO, Genesis, Gamecube, N64, SNES, NES, GBA, GB, C64, Amiga, Atari 2600 and 5200, Sega Game Gear, Vectrex, Intellivision, Pong.  Yes, Pong.

My advice for the Wii 2 hardware wise assuming a release End of 2011

2 Ghz Dual Core

Hollywood CPU For BC (thats a big deal Nintendo, !!HARDWARD!! BACKWARDS COMPATIBLE WITH WII AND GCN!!!)

512Mb RAM

20 Gig HDD or 10 Gig Flash with removable cards that can be used in game.

Advanced Version Of Wiimote with improved close range IR.

Max 720p HD resolution (DON'T COMPETE WITH MS AND SONY ON 1080P! most casuals don't even know what that is on their 480i CRTs)

DVD playback (Don't pay Sony to license Blu-Ray! Your games will fit on DVD-DL and most people will still be using DVD)

I think Sony and Microsoft see the Wii as a stepping stone for people joining the HD consoles.

That's what they hope and pray but not what they really believe deep down in their hearts.  And the way people contradict themselves is amazing.  The same people that say Wii is a stepping stone to HD consoles are probably the same people that will say Wii owners only bought the console for Wii Sports and won't buy any other games, blah blah.  They claim they don't expect Wii owners to spend $50 on a new Wii game but yet expect them to spend $300 on a new console plus $60 for new games.

Just change Wii with PS2 and you know that it will not work =p.

To be fair though, Sony did make some monumental mistakes this gen, first and formost pricing. I could see them repeating that mistake again next gen as well.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

In reality, that's spin presented by companies hoping to marginalize the Wii's success, while making that success seem a positive for their own company.

Call up Sony in Japan and tell them the Wii and the PS3 aren't competing against each other.

Just FYI, Microsoft will never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, win a generation if it doesn't sell at least decently in Japan. That's just how that works.

I think far too many people overestimate the "value" of graphics when it comes to videogames ...

Suppose for a minute that Nintendo decided to produce a system in the next generation that matched the per-pixel texturing/lighting/effects of the Wii but output at 1080p how upset would you really be? I know it is an unusual question buy why do people insist upon graphics heading towards photorealism when videogames are unrealistic anyways?

With that said ...

Nintendo has a massive advantage heading into the next generation. The unexpected success of the Nintendo DS and Wii will lead (pretty much) every third party publisher to trust Nintendo's direction regardless of what they choose to do, and if Nintendo produces an affordable system which has the features that the majority of gamers want people will buy it.

People say that the Wii could sell 100 million units or whatever.....if Nintendo doesn't mess up. But with WiiWare coming up and the gradual inglux of 3rd parties, how could they mess up? (I honestly want to know how.)
