I don't think the Wii can be put in the same catagory as the 360 and ps3. So even if they win this gen which i believe they will, it won't bother Sony and Microsoft too much because they benefit too.

I think Sony and Microsoft see the Wii as a stepping stone for people joining the HD consoles.

It's not a stepping stone.  I's a replacement.  I even have an HDTV and no HD content, and I don't care.  All I need is my Wii and regular old DVDs, and even VHS.

It is for some people, it is an entry point into console like Blink 182 is an entry point into rock music

Well it definately is an entry point, but your logic fails in one thing; the HD console they will be adopting is N6, which i doubt will warm Sony and M$.

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.

Just change Wii with PS2 and you know that it will not work =p.

I agree with you kn, however Nintendo usually makes a console that runs at least one generation behind in raw horsepower(no offense).

Although you have to wonder how bad it would be to have Nintendo release a console as powerful as a PS3...

When you say, usually, do you mean 50% of the time, because of the 4 consoles (besides Wii) that they've made, 2 of them were more powerful than the winning console. And surprise, the winning consoles those two times were the PlayStation 1 and PlayStation 2. It seems Sony's actually the one that releases a "last-gen" less-powerful console.

Nintendo just has to play it safe. I bet Sony's take over of the market with the PS1 still stings Nintendo... and I'm sure both companies won't forget the massive swing from this generation. But Nintendo is in a really good spot right now.

I think when he said "usually" he meant "for the first time ever."

Guys, you're completely misunderstanding him!  What HeSSeHp was saying is that Wii sales will be greater than NES + SNES + N64 + GC sales combined.  Therefore, historically, the Wii will be the 'usual' Nintendo console!

Please, PLEASE do NOT feed the trolls.

I agree that Wii will be a stepping stone to HD, but it will be in 4 years when Wii 2 (in HD) is released.

Obviously the winner of a generation has a noticable advantage going into the next generation, but just as obviously, that advantage can be overcome. See Atari, Nintendo circa 1995, and Sony circa 2007.

Thats not entirely true, this is the first time in this gen they are taking a step back in terms of graphics and hardware. The NES CPU was weaker then the Master System but it boasted on par graphics (Kirbys Adventure, Super Mario Bros 3) The SNES CPU wasnt as powerful as the Genesis but it had one of the best graphics and great audio hardware for its time and so on with the N64 and GC. As for their hanhelds i cant argue with that since the gameboy used black and white and the DS's graphics is between the 64 and GC.

Yes, significantly outselling their competition will give them an advantage going into the next generation. That alone however, is not enough to make them the de facto leader. Just look at the transition from PS2 to PS3. I personally think the Wii 2 will have a much harder time than the Wii because the motion controls will not be new, and people will be more jaded to improvements in graphical ability. I just don't see the majority of Wii owners feeling the need to upgrade, hardcore aside.
