It's not a stepping stone. I's a replacement. I even have an HDTV and no HD content, and I don't care. All I need is my Wii and regular old DVDs, and even VHS.


 It is for some people, it is an entry point into console like Blink 182 is an entry point into rock music


Well it definately is an entry point, but your logic fails in one thing; the HD console they will be adopting is N6, which i doubt will warm Sony and M$.
