I preferred Link's Awakening, Twilight Princess, Link to the Past, Tetris, Portal, StarCraft, SMB3, Brawl, X-COM, and Dr. Mario, but I'm sure Ocarina's somewhere in my top 50 if I was ever crazy enough to sit down and made one.

ahh Monatana, i see it didnt take long for ocarina's arch-nemesis to make it to the thread
if only i had a penny for every OOT vs FFVII argument ive had to go through
but this thread isnt for that,is it?i hope this doesnt turn into something like that

....and I'll look down and whisper "no."

Ocarina of Time was certainly a great game. But as per the best Zelda, probably not. Majora's Mask had more character, Wind Waker had more style, Twilight Princess was more epic. It probably ties with A Link to the Past overall.
Best game ever? Minesweeper of course (not a joke).

It's up in the top games. For me I thought Majoras Mask was better. The reason it wasn't as popular IMO was because it was difficult for your average casual gamer to understand/get into, what with masks and time-travel etc...

You are correct, but this is the best game of all time:

Final Fantasy VII is the best game of all time. OoT is a great title and deserves the ranking it has, but I don't consider it the best.
Of course average reviews are flawed as the reviews are ranking games based on how good they were for their time. If Oot released today as is, it wouldn't have that score. It also had a lot less people reviewing it back then compared to today.
Oh god, I started it. I really regret it now. Sorry people, for I have unleashed something terrible...
Frankly, I think both games have their individual qualities and are two completely different types of games, so comparing them is for stupid fanboys. I enjoyed Final Fantasy 7 more than Ocarina of Time, but I'm a bigger fan of RPGs than Adventure games (although that didn't stop me from liking Tomb Raider or Okami, it's just a matter of taste).
Personally loved OoT, i even stopped completing the final dungeon until i had savoured everything in Hyrule and i did exactly the same with FFVII delaying finishing it until i had defeated the Ultimate Weapon but for me the best game ever is a tie between Half Life 1 & 2 on PC
