Forums - Sony Discussion - PlayStation Nation |OT| Playing Astro Bot on the Horizon Until Dawn

Damn. I know this doesn't *necessarily* speak to the game proper, but that trailer was pretentious. Quickfire ADD editing and being up its own ass about an extraction shooter concept. "What if a robot read Ozymandius for dramatic effect?"

Watching some early impressions and I think Marathon can do well.

Don't know if it'll be as big as Helldivers 2 or even Destiny but it certainly won't flop.

The extraction shooter genre is very limited on console which will help Marathon at least gain some initial traction out of curiosity.

While there are some dings on it being a premium product, there aren’t any free to play extraction shooters on the market. At least any notable ones. So it’s not surprising it’s a premium product.

The biggest thing going against is definitely releasing alongside Borderlands 4 lol. Both are loot-focused and heavily co-op based games. I wouldn’t be surprised if it ends in a delay.

You called down the thunder, now reap the whirlwind

I have played Ninja Gaiden II Black more than any other game this year so far on my Series X. I bought the physical for PS5 (no Xbox versions avail) and I'm in dire need for a new stylish action game. Lost Soul Aside cannot get here soon enough. I hope they at least put a demo out a couple weeks before launch or this month to tide me over.

Bite my shiny metal cockpit!

Marathon looks great, but I'm not currently in the market for a paid MP experience. But I'll keep a lookout on how well it does and if there's a sale in the future.

I do wish the original titles were being redone but that's neither here nor there now I suppose.

i also think that the launch being the same as Borderlands is not fantastic. Not necessarily the same audience but Borderlands is going to have a lot more hype going for it I believe.

At this point, Sony needs to get more control over Bungie.

I might be in the minority here but I think Marathon can outsell Borderlands 4. But I agree that its not a good idea for both to launch on the same day. One of them have to budge, or they'll both eat into each others sales.

Played the original back in the day on a friend's 360 and the game was awesome.

After watching the gameplay highlight video that had both Destiny and Halo content creators, I’m optimistic about Marathon. Not on whether the game will succeed or not lol, but the game looks like it’ll at least be a fun time.

Glad to see that the NPCs are actually going to pose a challenge since despite being on a battle royale sized map, there’s only a max of 18 players per match. So at least there will still be good firefights even with non-players. And I know I saw some Cabal looking enemies from Destiny at some point lol

Sony is raising the price of the digital edition PS5 across europe and some other places.

Yay, let the insanely rich corps hold hands and screw us all at the same time.

Saw a lot of negativity about Marathon and it was actually funny to see, first because of how many ways people are going to talk shit just to not say their real problem with the game it's that it's a Sony game and second because a lot of that people also talked shit about Helldivers and a couple months later they were asking for a port, bragging about the game selling most on PC or talking about how AH isn't a PS studio just to cope with the fact that Helldivers has been a PS IP since before 2015. I can totally see the same situation happening when Marathon releases, "My system saved that game", "Bungie isn't a PS Studio" lol.

Personally once I knew what they were going to show was part of the ALPHA I adjusted my expectations and thanks to that I was able to see that the game is actually very promising but there's a lot of work left. Actually I wouldn't be surprised if what they showed is actually older than the status of the game right now but they decided to show it anyway because it was stable.
The article that was quoted to talk about the price was so fucked up lol. I read the whole thing and it was pretty clear it was made by some entitled guy. You can't call yourself a fan of someone and then start slamming their new work just because it doesn't fit with you.

Until the game opens for preorders we won't know the situation on PS so for now we only have what we can see in SteamDB and right now the game has better numbers than Concord never had before release so I don't expect for it to "flop", actually for a game that showed almost nothing the game has good numbers. Once they show more in the Summer event thing (and oh boy there is a lot they didn't show), they say the real price of the game ($40) and they announce the beta I'm pretty confident the data will be even better.

I think the worst part of this situation is the release date, I don't give a damn about Borderlands but PlayStation has the rights of Borderlands marketing and that means a high probability that Marathon won't get marketing under the PS brand, people can say what they want but PS marketing is one of their strongest points and a reason why a lot of games are actually successful. That is smart and stupid at the same time, it's smart because if both games hit big then Sony has one of their biggest months yet but it's stupid because you are literally competing with yourself, the advantages that Marathon has over Borderlans is the fact that it is a competitive shooter and also the price, two main points when it comes to shooters. We will never know who was the one with the idea, I can see both parties making the decision, Bungie's CEO is what's left of a terrible administration pre acquisition and Sony probably putting a dead line to Bungie to release the game, that deadline being 2025 before GTA6 release. We know Borderlands will have a "healthy" separation from GTA6 release so we know the release window is end of October-November. This is also important because it also means if Sony wants to release something else this year it has to be at end of August max.

Anyway I have been ready for people to call Marathon a flop for a long time lol, extraction shooters are niche in comparison with other online shooters so if Bungie and Sony are smart their first goal has to be getting similar player numbers to what Hunt has right now and I believe that's doable.
