Helldivers 2 is breaking out. It will be fun to see if it can hit 200K+ CCU.
It's a bit ironic that a live service game is continuing the momentum of PlayStation first party lol.

That initial momentum is there. Now comes the hardest part……keeping the players there. The gameplay loop is solid, but the launch content starts to wear thin after the first month, and then players will start to ask “okay, what’s next?”
Hopefully over the next couple of weeks, after the major issues have been alleviated, and the devs get to layout their future plans of the live service to really capitalize on the game’s popularity while the majority of the player base is still there enjoying the game.
Sony must now be looking to bring Arrowhead into the Playstation studios family.
They can be their 1st ever online Co-op shooter studio and have higher staff and bigger budgets going forward to support HD2 and/or make a new one.
CEO of arrowhead tweeted 8 hours ago that they had sold around 1m copies of Helldivers 2. 1m sales in around 2 days, very good result.

I'm not too worried about Helldivers 2 player retention TBH.
The developers have confirmed post launch content, and being a paid release means it has different internal metrics, than say a F2P release. A drop into PlayStation Plus can revitalize the player base for example. It's smashing expectations and I'll be surprised if it doesn't find its community.

For the most part, they did a great job at working on the most immediately critical issue. For sure they’ll remember this for their next release.
I am very happy to hear about the success HELLDivers 2 has been having. Especially a starship troopers esque game that you can play with your friends.

Can't fault them for the larger number of users that either them or Sony anticipated.
At least they'll be ready for the possibility next time.
