Trump moves forward with plans to change Department of Defense to ‘Department of War’

"“Why are we ‘Defense’? So it used to be called the Department of War, and it had a stronger sound,” he said, pining for days in which “we used to win wars all the time.” The president added, “I don’t want to be defense only. We want defense, but we want offense, too.”"

So good to have a de-escalation president.

Uh, I'm so tired of this.

And I feel like the worst part is that people are not going to admit they were ever wrong. They're going to act like it was inevitable, or that every administration was acting like this.

Understandable fear but I sure would love if he applies this "offense" logic to Russia instead of cowering like a little bitch at every given opportunity, rushing to kiss Putin's feet and hiding behind "Next Two Weeks" every two weeks. It seems as though in Trump's world, "Department of War" is only applicable to being used on its own citizens.

National Guard soldiers called into service for President Trump's law enforcement surge in D.C. have been assigned to spread mulch at federal monuments.

Normally the Park Service does that, but the administration laid off the workers.

Looks like there's so much crime in DC that the National Guard are litter picking. How much money is being wasted on this? Trump will of course say some bullshit like "I CLEARED UP ALL THE CRIME IN DC. NO CRIME LEFT. SO MUCH CRIME GONE THAT THE GUARD VOLUNTEERED TO LITTER PICK INSTEAD. THEY HAVE NOTHING ELSE TO DO BECAUSE ALL CRIME CLEARED. THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER"

Just curious, in the scenario that the republican party refused to accept donald trump to run for president in 2024 (I dont even know if that would be allowed) and the primaries chooses someone different, then trump runs as an independent (I doubt he would do it), what do you think would be his share of the conservative vote?
He probably would not get 52% of total votes as he got in the election and most likely Harris would win, but I wonder what would be the % of people refusing to vote for him as an independent.

I'd say 20% maximum. I know there were theories that he could reach up to 30% but that probably means that more would vote for him as for the Republican Party and I doubt that so many Americans would vote a candidate above the party they like.

Don't forget that many Republicans help him all the time when he has his stupid moments (so every day). If he would be independent, they would also go against his stupidity and wouldn't spin it for him just to have arguments against the Dems.

It would depend exactly on how and when Trump went independent. If it became obvious early on (say after the 2022 midterms) that Trump wasn't going to get chosen by the Republicans and he went independent at that point, it'd probably have a similar outcome to Theodore Roosevelt's third-party run in 1912 - he wouldn't win, but he'd probably beat the Republican candidate down into the third place.

However, if he lost in the primaries, that would be a different story, as a lot of states have "sore loser" laws which prohibit people from running as independents if they lose a major party's nomination. In that case, Trump wouldn't be on the ballots in enough states to have any major effect on the election.

Half of US voters believe Israel committing genocide in Gaza, poll says

The share of US voters who believe a genocide is taking place in Gaza includes 77 percent of Democrats and 51 percent of independents, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released on Wednesday.

A large majority of Republicans – 64 percent – do not think Israel is committing genocide, according to the poll, whereas 20 percent do.

Six in 10 US voters also oppose Washington sending more military aid to Israel, according to the poll, the highest share since Quinnipiac began asking the question in November 2023.

Voters are almost evenly split in their sympathies for Palestinians and Israelis, according to Quinnipiac, with 37 percent saying they are more sympathetic towards Palestinians and 36 percent saying they feel more sympathy for Israelis.

The share of Americans expressing sympathy for Palestinians is the highest – and the share sympathetic towards Israelis the lowest – since Quinnipiac began asking the question in December 2001.

Right wing propaganda is still plenty effective but also starting to lose ground.

77% of democrats vs 20% of Republicans believe Israel is committing genocide. Echo chambers and mainstream media at work as I do not believe Republicans are any dumber or more heartless than Democrats.

Sympathy should be with both sides. Most Israelis were born into this conflict just as pretty much all Palestinians alive today. The split in these polls proves how effective propaganda is and in Israel dehumanizing propaganda is all across the board from birth. Same for Gaza and the Westbank, less need for propaganda there as people live the occupation daily.

Social media is a double edged sword. On one hand it broke the Israeli Hasbara and exposed the influence of the Israeli lobby across the world yet echo chambers keep enough people dis-informed for governments to keep supporting genocide.

Democrat leadership will see polls like this and still debate for months about what to do and defend Israel, they're so fucking dumb it's unreal, they're only going to win because Trump is such a fuck up but almost nobody is happy with Democrats right now, utterly useless party. Hakeem Jeffries, Chuck Schumer, and a lot more Democrats need to piss off and make way for new leadership, new ideas, instead of desperately holding onto the status quo and Israel's blood money.

Democrat leadership is close to as much in the pocket of Aipac as Republican leadership is.

https://theintercept.com/2024/10/24/aipac-spending-congress-elections-israel/

AIPAC has spent money on more than 80 percent of the 469 seats up for reelection this year.

AIPAC’s approach to electoral spending is bipartisan. The group has funded Republican, Democrat, and independent candidates alike. AIPAC PAC supported 233 Republicans with a total of more than $17 million in funds, 152 Democrats who received more than $28 million in sum, and three independents: Sens. Joe Manchin of West Virginia, Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona, and Angus King of Maine, who got just under $300,000 between them.

AIPAC PAC also gave more than $3 million to party committees and organizations on both sides of the aisle including the NRSC, Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, Jeffries Majority Fund, and Democracy Engine.

So far, the spending has had its desired effect. The number of members of Congress willing to support conditioning aid to Israel or criticizing human rights abuses has shrunk as AIPAC has increased its electoral spending and put it to work targeting progressive candidates and lawmakers.

US politics is controlled by Aipac, while Trump is controlled by Putin.

Meanwhile China and BRICS are only growing stronger. UN and Nato's days are numbered while Trump remains in power... The US has become a liability for Europe :/

Not only that, but AIPAC actually goes after Democrats who won't toe the mark. They spent millions going after members of the Squad. In the cases of Cori Bush and Jamaal Bowman, they got primaried, though Bowman's case wasn't helped by the fire alarm incident in 2023. They couldn't get Ilhan Omar ousted, though.

I love what Gavin Newsom is doing as well, I've always said he should be an attack dog for the Democrats, the dude is absolutely trolling the fuck out of Trump right now and being the most vocal opposition to Trump right now which is brilliant (where is everyone else?), but I'm going to vomit in my mouth if he ends up being the Democrat Nominee, it'll probably be Keir Starmer 2.0. Gavin just needs to be the dude who nationally embarrasses Trump and helps whoever should be the Democrat Nominee.
