Daniel Ahmad: "Reminder: 1. 20% China tariff impacts video game consoles, smartphones, GPUs, laptops etc. 2. 25% tariff on Mexico impacts physical video games. China is where most hardware continue to be manufactured, same for Mexico with discs. Despite mitigation efforts, US gamers may end up paying more." — Bluesky

This week's The Daily Show with Jon Stewart opted for a simple explanation for the actions of a simple-minded man. It may not be necessary for Russia to pay off Trump or blackmail him to get this result, because MAGA people see themselves in a culture war of woke vs. unwoke. In that context partnering with Russia and turning away from Europe makes perfect sense.

Should we really ponder if there's any sort of grand masterplan for Trump's actions when his history in office has always been about stupid decisions with no greater meaning to them once all had been said and done? He is stupid and incapable of thinking a step ahead, let alone several ones. The tariffs going into effect demonstrate this once again.

And then there's the MAGA baseball cap with the words "Trump was right about everything" written on it unironically. Trump really is an idiot.

Legend11 correctly predicted that GTA IV will outsell Super Smash Bros. Brawl. I was wrong.

With JD Vance, I know Trump is a complete moron so I wouldn't put it past him to not know about UK's military history, but JD Vance absolutely knows about UK's military history, he was a bloody military journalist in Iraq. JD Vance knows 100% he is talking bollocks but he says this shit to antagonise and this stuff will piss off a lot of Brits to hear an American spit on the graves of our troops.

Something about Vance is very shady, I also still put the blame more on him than Trump for the White House argument between Zelenskyy, though Trump is still largely to blame but I feel like JD Vance was the main instigator. Someone did compare him to Russia's Medvedev though which made me laugh, the similarities are there, only needs the vodka to match.

Very small piece of all this, but it wouldn't surprise me to see physical games that would be subject to tariffs simply not get made, with pubs moving to an all digital strategy.

What a mess.

In the midst of all this shitshow, at least this made me laugh.

James Cartlidge, the Conservative shadow defence secretary, said: “Britain and France came to their [the US’s] aid, deploying thousands of personnel to Afghanistan, including my own brother and numerous parliamentary colleagues, past and present. It’s deeply disrespectful to ignore such service and sacrifice.”

Johnny Mercer, the Conservative former armed forces minister, who is no longer an MP, called Vance a “clown”.

Ben Obese-Jecty, a Conservative MP who, as an army officer, served in Afghanistan and Iraq, noted that in his memoir, Vance said he was “lucky to escape any real fighting” when in the Marines. He went on: “I was part of British forces fighting in highly kinetic operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, the latter in response to article 5 following 9/11. The disrespect shown by the new US vice-president to the sacrifices of our service personnel is unacceptable.”

The Liberal Democrats said Peter Mandelson, the UK ambassador to Washington, should seek an apology from Vance. The party’s defence spokesperson, Helen Maguire, who as a Royal Military Police officer served in Iraq, said: “I saw first-hand how American and British soldiers fought bravely together shoulder to shoulder. Six of my own regiment, the Royal Military Police, didn’t return home from Iraq. This is a sinister attempt to deny that reality.”

Europeans fight and die in USA's wars outside of Europe/America but Trump can't be bothered to send equipment to defend Europe. I hope he will choke on Russia's raw materials USA will get for that betrayal.

Ukraine also sent troops to Afghanistan and Iraq despite not being a NATO member. Ukraine allowed use of its airspace and airbases to the US and its allies. Ukraine lost 18 troops in Iraq and sent over a thousand. Of course, the Iraq war was bullshit and totally unjust but that's not the point being made here, has Trump ever thanked us? Has Trump apologised for the deaths?

How Ukraine Negotiated With the Taliban and Rescued 96 Afghans - The New York Times

“I find the brutality of this decision reprehensible. It is very cruel to the Ukrainian soldiers who are patriotically defending their country. No one can force the United States to continue its support if it no longer wishes to do so. But it is highly questionable not to give Ukraine a reasonable amount of time to turn around. Stopping arms supplies is less problematic because they can be replaced than stopping intelligence and technological and digital support. We are seeing the consequences of Europe’s digital submission to the United States.”

Even one of the leaders of one of the most far-right parties in Europe thinks America is being a bit of a dickhead, Lol.

Markets no longer think Donald Trump is full of bluster and are moving quickly to anticipate a slowdown in US and global growth as he raises a wall of tariffs around the world's biggest economy and trading partners start to respond in kind reut.rs/4bsB3Xa
