All that matters is getting the Biden-Harris ticket to the 270 Electoral College vote threshold on election day. Everything else can be sorted out later.

The political reality is the only plausible replacement for Biden on the top of the ticket is Harris. There is no way she would ever take his place without his blessing. Picking anyone besides Harris would lead to a revolt among the Black woman voter base. The only option is to double down on Biden-Harris.

I am confident that America and it's institutions can survive an older president with diminished faculties. Heaven forbid he expires during his second term, we have norms of dealing with such a scenario. There are decent people around Biden and in his cabinet that can shepherd things towards stability no matter how things shake out.

I am not sure America and its systems can survive a second Trump presidency. Emboldened by the Supreme Court, with a party in congress and the senate willing to tolerate all of his faults. Trump has promised outright revenge. He is a convicted felon and has been found liable of sexual assault. This is MAGA's last stand. If Trump loses this time, his political career is over.

The Democrats must convince the electorate in the swing states to suck it up and finally relegate the MAGA movement to the dustbin of history.

At first I was adamant that Biden needs to stay because it's far too late, lately I'm feeling a bit...unsure on that stance, the sheer toxicity from the media and insane focus on Biden's age whilst ignoring all Trump's shit, I think I saw that CNN has done over 100 articles on Biden's age alone since the debate, they smell blood in the water and it's no longer just some annoying media and Republican talking point. I will say some of it is a bit concerning but some of it is also not justified, it has been that way the past year, now it feels different though, it almost feels to me like when Corbyn was battered by the media in the UK, Lol.

I don't trust the American media though, they want Trump back in power, I know the instant Biden is replaced they'll instead be a 100 articles about how the Democrats are in chaos, can't even get behind their own president, they'll be a lot of concern trolling about the Democrats position in the media and of course Republicans will jump on that too but at this stage, is that easier to defend against than Biden's age? I don't know, it feels like there's no good options because even if I agree that Biden should be replaced, I still do not believe any Democrat has a better chance than Biden at beating Trump, can that change with a few months of intense campaigning? Again, I don't know, is it time to make a drastic change? Idk, Lol.

But I absolutely agree with you that the only plausible replacement for Biden at this stage is Harris and I know they'll be people online who will hate that because they dislike Harris but she is the only logical placement at this stage in the race, for a number of reasons. Firstly, Harris polls better than any other Democrat versus Trump aside from Biden. Secondly, if it's not Harris which is the natural step as she's the VP and already on the Biden-Harris ticket, it'll be a complete mess of Democrats all throwing their hat in the ring and fighting for the position. Third, like you said, it would be an incredibly poor look for the Democrats to blatantly skip over the Vice President, especially in favour of some white dude, it may hurt Biden's quite strong black voter base too. Fourth, since she's already on the Biden-Harris ticket, almost everything can be transferred over to her (campaign staff, policy, fundraising, donations, scheduled events, etc) other Democrats would have to almost start from scratch and fifth, many of them don't have the same recognition as Harris and would only have 3-4 months to do that.

Fuck I would vote for Biden's comatose body over Trump, Biden may be old but I don't believe it means he can't govern a country, especially since any good leader would place a good team around them, even if Biden dies during his next term, I trust whatever team Biden has built around him to carry on than that disgusting orange fascist dickhead, the biggest fear of Biden dying is what, Harris as President? The biggest fear of a Trump presidency is the dismantling of America's democracy, backstabbing American allies, throwing Ukraine to its death, further eroding the rights of women and demonising the LGBTQ+ community, especially trans-people, the fucking choice should be obvious to anyone with any sense of human decency. I believe if Biden loses it will be down mostly to inflation + his age, I think if inflation was sorted then he could squeak out concerns about his age.
